The Context
Season 1 of Wednesday, released in 2022 and starring Jenna Ortega, was Netflix's most watched English-language TV show with 252.1 million viewers according to Netflix's companion site, Tudum.
The company is rolling out several new meals and initiatives this year, including the "Meal of Misfortune," a "100 Days of Summer" program, and a collaboration with Takis snacks.
What Is in Wendy's 'Meal of Misfortune'?
A press release from Wendy's says that the meal was "designed by Wednesday Addams."
The "Meal of Misfortune" centers on four new mystery "Dips of Dread"— You Can't Hyde, This Will Sting, Grave Mistake, and Nowhere to Woe.
Each meal comes with two randomly selected sauces. The bundle includes "Rest in 10-Piece" Nuggets, small "Cursed & Crispy" Fries, and the debut of the "Raven's Blood" Frosty, a vanilla Frosty with a dark cherry swirl.
The press release states that people will have to buy multiple meals in order to try all four sauces.
The meal will be available through restaurants and the Wendy's app in the U.S. from August 4, followed by releases in Canada starting August 11 as well as in Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, and Guam. Wendy's has not specified an end date for the promotion.
Who Is Wednesday Addams?
Wednesday Addams is a gothic child who first appeared in American popular culture in 1938 as a member of the Addams family, a cartoon family invented by artist Charles Addams for The New Yorker.
The Addams family was then turned into a sitcom in 1964, and has had its stories rebooted in several films and TV shows since.
Wednesday is the latest iteration of Addams family lore. It focuses on Wednesday's teenage school years at Nevermore Academy, a fictional school for outcast and quirky children.
What People Are Saying
Liz Geraghty, international chief marketing officer for The Wendy's Company, said in a press release: "This isn't a typical collaboration, because not just any brand could scheme up a Meal of Misfortune with Wednesday Addams. But for a brand that's proudly customer-obsessed and unapologetically bold, it was a match made in dark, dry-witted heaven."
The character of Wednesday Addams was quoted in the press release, saying: "Normally I'd be against this kind of capitalistic corporate synergy, but when the fast-food-slinging pigtailed provocateur said I could do whatever I wanted to her customers, I couldn't resist."
What Happens Next
The first half of Wednesday Season 2 airs on Netflix on August 6. Wednesday has already been renewed for a third season.

‘Cool guy': 80s rockstar pulled over in Kansas en route to show

KIOWA COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) — Sheriff's deputies in Kansas made an unexpected traffic stop on Friday when they pulled over a vehicle carrying none other than 1980s pop-rock icon John Waite and his band. Sgt. Justin Rugg conducted the stop as the group was headed to Dodge City for a performance at United Wireless Arena. A longtime fan, Rugg couldn't hide his excitement. Chiefs' tight end Travis Kelce makes shirtless cameo in 'Happy Gilmore 2' 'I'm not even on cloud nine, I'm on like cloud 12,' Rugg said after meeting the English rock singer, best known for hits like 'Missing You' and 'When I See You Smile.' The Kiowa County Sheriff's Office shared the encounter in a lighthearted social media post, calling Waite a 'cool guy' and thanking him for taking a photo with the sergeant. On his official Facebook page, Waite said they were 'pulled over for speeding' and called Rugg a 'good guy cop.' Waite's band continued on their way, with deputies wishing them a 'rockin' time.' His career began in the 1970s when he became the bassist and lead vocalist for The Babys, which later disbanded after Waite was 'pulled from the stage by an overzealous fan during an encore.' According to his website, Waite 'seriously injured his knee' in the incident. Waite went on to launch a solo career through the 1980s before forming Bad English with former bandmates of The Babys, Jonathan Cain and Ricky Phillips; Journey guitarist Neal Schon; and drummer Deen Castronovo. The group would break up a few years later, relaunching Waite's solo efforts.

Everyone Said She'd Never Find a Cat That Likes Being Held—They Were Wrong

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A woman who was told she'd never find a cuddly cat proved everyone wrong after sharing a video of her girl cat's morning routine that has melted hearts among social media users. The heartwarming clip shared on Instagram in July under the username @gabmarygrasso, shows the poster, 27-year-old Gabrielle Grasso, asking her tabby cat, Penny: "Do you want cuddles?" The 6-year-old kitty answers with a long, heartfelt meow, before climbing onto the windowsill and then leaping in her arms, embracing her in a warm hug with her little paws. "You'll never find a cat that likes being held. It's just not in their nature.' Well, anyway... this is my and my girl cat's morning routine," reads layover text in the clip. "A real life convo!" the caption says. Grasso told Newsweek: "People often think cats are aloof and indifferent pets but that couldn't be further from the truth. "Cats express their love for people in complex ways. Penny happens to express hers through the constant desire to be held and cuddled! She is extremely affectionate and would let me hold her all day if it were possible!" Cats are known for being solitary and independent, but this doesn't mean they can't be loving and sweet with the people they are bonded to. Some cat owners even describe their cats as being incredibly clingy and never leaving them alone. But why are some cats more open to humans than others? Kittens raised with a friendly father grow up to be cats that are friendlier toward people compared to those with a non-friendly father, according to PetMD. However, this is only the case when they are also socialized. Single cats may also seek more love and attention from their humans because they have nobody else to interact with. Cats can show affection in many different ways. The most obvious is their body language, they will arch against your hands or rub against your legs; they will also meow, purr, or trill; they may place their front paws on you to ask for attention. Other typical signs of cat's affection include following you around the house; sitting next to you on the couch; sleeping next to (or on top of) you at night; and headbutting you. Screenshots of the viral video show the poster's cat, Penny, asking to be picked up or cuddles. One user, commented: "I honestly don't understand people that say cats aren't affectionate. My cat will start meowing in the middle of the night , just to get me to come out of my room and give her a cuddle. This cat also thinks laying on top of my chest and pushing her fur in my face is the bestest thing in the world." Kitotterkat added: "Whoever said that hasn't met many cats, mine is like velcro and the only time he doesn't meow is when he's being held." Netflix's Old ‘Jeffrey Epstein' Series Is Surging Due To ‘Epstein List' Release Demands

Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich Usually, if a Netflix original series is surging in popularity with no new season added to the service, something is up. And that's certainly the case with Netflix's Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich, a five-year-old documentary that has now landed in the Top 10 list on the service, currently at #9. The reason, of course, is that every day the Epstein files and the supposed list they're meant to contain are in the news, as there are demands for President Donald Trump to release information that conservatives specifically have been demanding to see for years. This has resulted in a slew of conflicting statements from the Trump administration and deep dives as to what's potentially in the files from outlets like the Wall Street Journal. The latest development is the Trump administration meeting with imprisoned Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell, though the results of those conversations have not been made public yet. The point being, interest in Epstein and his crimes has been growing more than usual, hence the surfacing of the 2020 documentary, which aired not long after he died in custody in 2019. The series was a four-part documentary about the man with hour-long episodes each, rather substantive for a Netflix docuseries, which are often closer to two hours. Here's the synopsis: It's a way to focus on Epstein in his crimes, but if viewers are looking for some sort of answers about the files or his list, that's not going to be in the cards here. And Donald Trump is not featured either. A protester holds a sign outside the White House demanding the release to all files related to ... More Jeffrey Epstein in Washington, DC, on July 18, 2025.(Photo by Alex WROBLEWSKI / AFP) Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich is not the only Epstein documentary. There is Surviving Jeffrey Epstein, first on Lifetime, then available on Hulu and Amazon Prime, and Who Killed Jeffrey Epstein? on Hulu only. Both of those were released in 2020. I would be a bit surprised if more docuseries did not emerge when the events currently unfolding settle, given all the new developments and information that have emerged (or rather, what surprisingly has not yet emerged). The Netflix documentary was well-received with an 81% critic score. Audience scores were a bit lower with a 67%, with some wanting answers they did not find over the course of the four hours. We'll see if it manages to stay on Netflix's top 10 list as more developments emerge from the story. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram.
