Celebrating her 23rd year in the music business, Misha Omar, dubbed as Malaysia's 'divine voice' says she is enjoying every minute of her long career and is once again topping the charts with her soulful new single "Break".
After winning hearts in the region for more than two decades and at the age of 44, the ever-elegant Misha is hardly thinking of slowing down.
Misha is back in the limelight as she continues to melt the hearts of music fans in South-East Asia with the soulful "Break", her new single, which is also the main soundtrack for Astro's "Mandul Bukan Pilihan" hit tv series.
The song is brought to fans by Malaysia's top record producer, Sony Music Malaysia, and was officially launched to the masses on June 20.
During a special listening party in KL on Thursday (July 31), Misha said she is just thankful that she has lasted this long and her journey to where she is now has been filled with tough but, yet many memorable moments.
"You know, my life is a journey. An amazing journey. But all this time, I have been blessed with so many good things - family, friends, well-wishers, and most importantly, wonderful, wonderful fans. It has been a great joyride," said Misha after the listening party for her new single, 'Break'.
'Touching on the production of Break, as a singer, I have had the best cooperation with my vocal teacher, Datuk Syafinaz Selamat.
'As a singer, before starting a new project, I take vocal classes and 'dissect' the lyrics so that the appreciation and the whole feeling about Break can be conveyed well. Hopefully, Break can touch the soul and leave an impression on the hearts of fans,' said Misha.
The stirring and emotional new single also marks her first-ever collaboration with Indonesian music legend Melly Goeslaw.
With over two decades of musical excellence under her belt, the three-time Anugerah Juara Lagu Best Vocalist breathes life into "Break", a beautifully crafted composition by Melly Goeslaw, with musical arrangement by celebrated producer Tohpati.
Though the title "Break" may suggest a pause, for Misha Omar, it symbolises the opposite — a bold reaffirmation of her commitment to creating timeless, quality music that resonates deeply with her audience.
'I've always dreamed of performing a song written by Melly,' Misha shares.
'So I leaped and messaged her directly on social media. To my delight, she responded - and "Break" was born, written specifically for me.
"This collaboration is incredibly special and came at exactly the right moment in my journey.' .
There was even a special surprise for Misha at the listening party on Thursday. Indonesian diva Melly made the trip to join Misha on stage during the listening party.
"I'm just so touched today. For a superstar like Melly to join me on stage and make a trip just for the show. This has to be one of the greatest moments of my career," said Misha.
"What a fantastic surprise. I thank Sony for this thoughtful move. This is a present I will not forget for a lifetime."
Speaking about the production of "Break", Misha said she had approached Melly on social media via Direct Message (DM): "This project started when I just told myself to go ahead and approach Melly on DM. Melly was happy to do it and then "Break" was born. This is one song that will be in my heart forever.
'I've always dreamed of performing a song written by Melly. This collaboration is incredibly special and came at exactly the right moment in my journey.'
As for Melly, she said she has been a big fan of Misha's work for many, many years.
"I have been following her for such a long time. She simply has an amazing voice. I have always been in awe of Misha's song," said Melly.
"So when she approached me for a collaboration, I just could not say no. It has been an honour to work with Misha. And I believe no one could have sung this song better than Misha," said Melly at the listening party.
The listening party was also made much more special when both divas were on the stage at the same time, singing to the tune of the new single, much to the delight of the listeners who attended the event.
"Break" is available for streaming and download since June 20 on all major platforms including Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube Music. It has an aptly named teaser for the new song -- Don't take a break — tune in to "Break" .
On another note, Misha will also be staging her mega solo concert at the Mega Star Arena on November 29. This year's concert is brought to fans by music and art house producers Double M Production, together with Altus Prohouse as the managers for the "DiA Misha Omar" concert.
Tickets have been on sale since July 25 at 10am. Tickets are priced at RM288 (SILVER), RM388 (GOLD), RM488 (PLATINUM), RM588 (DIAMOND), RM688 (VIP 2), RM1,200 (VIP 1), RM1,200 (2 PAX; ROYAL TWIN SEAT). Tickets can be purchased at https://jiotix.asia/events/dia-misha-omar.

Former TVB actress Ali Lee says she fell ill while filming local drama in Malaysia

Popular Hong Kong actress Ali Lee Kai-sum, who was in Malaysia filming the upcoming Astro drama The Exiled, revealed that she unexpectedly fell ill during the shoot. She stars opposite fellow Hong Kong actor Chris Lai Lok-yi in the series. According to an article by Sin Chew, Lee shared that she had to take 10 types of medication – including painkillers and sore throat remedies – while unwell. Fortunately, the medicine helped, and she made a significant recovery although she had a cough that didn't go away for awhile. In a behind-the-scenes video, the 42-year-old expressed gratitude to Lai who took care of her when she was ill. It was previously reported that Lee took the role in The Exiled partly because of her friendship with Lai. In the video, the duo spoke about their experience filming in Malaysia. Lee recalled how Lai encouraged her to get some sun and looked after her when she was feeling unwell. She humorously shared that at one point she knocked on Lai's hotel room door to ask for medicine, saying: 'His room became like a pharmacy. When I was coughing really badly, I went knocking and said, 'Excuse me doctor, I need medicine'.' Meanwhile, Lai added that many people were concerned about Lee's condition and would often call him to check if she was feeling better. Lee left TVB last year after 12 years with the company.

Cakra Khan wows KLCC, announces break

KUALA LUMPUR - The powerful and emotionally charged vocals of Indonesian star Cakra Khan captivated nearly 3,000 fans at his solo Divine Concert-Cakra Khan at the Plenary Hall, KLCC, here on Saturday. Known for his uniquely raspy voice, Cakra - whose real name is Cakra Konta Paryaman, 33, - performed 26 heartfelt songs during the nearly three-hour concert organised by Shiraz Projects. The concert opened at 8.45 pm with a medley of three popular songs: Setelah Kau Tiada, followed by Persinggahan and Mencari Cinta Sejati, before he greeted fans and admitted to being a little nervous about giving his best performance. "Assalamualaikum WBT. How is everyone doing? Praise be to Allah SWT for giving me the opportunity to be here tonight with all of you, who are absolutely amazing. I had nasi lemak earlier, so I can speak a bit of KL Malay now (laughs). Being on this stage is nerve-wracking - I'm afraid I might forget the lyrics - but I'm lucky to have all of you here tonight. Thank you, everyone,' he quipped. Backed by more than 10 musicians, including violin, cello, saxophone, keyboard, bass, guitar, trumpet, and drums, the performance continued with a string of hits from his second album such as Kau Memilih Dia, Salah Tapi Baik, Nanti, Tak Sejalan, Take The Pain, and Cahaya. The powerful and emotionally charged vocals of Indonesian star Cakra Khan captivated nearly 3,000 fans at his solo Divine Concert-Cakra Khan at the Plenary Hall, KLCC on Saturday. - Photo by Bernama Cakra didn't just perform solo - he also featured five guest singers: Trio XL, Titi DJ, Faisal Lubis, Marsha Milan, and Ade Govinda. "I had the honour of being a judge for the One in a Million talent show. I felt lucky to witness so many amazing talents there. I invited Trio XL to join me in performing Rindu Tak Bersuara - they have a solid classical foundation. I've studied classical music for a long time myself, but honestly, I haven't reached that level yet,' said Cakra, who is a fan of Luciano Pavarotti's work. One of the most touching moments came when Cakra dedicated the concert to his late father Hermana, his source of strength and inspiration since he entered the music industry in 2012. Hermana passed away due to a stroke in 2020. "In my village, during wedding celebrations, even outsiders can attend. So my dad would take me on his motorcycle to any wedding that had musical performances, just so I could sing. "Sadly, my late father didn't get the chance to attend my first concert here. Every performance I give today is dedicated to him and everyone who has supported me since the beginning,' said Cakra, who also sang Mencintaimu, originally performed by Kris Dayanti. The atmosphere turned lively when Cakra stepped off the stage and interacted with fans, walking around the hall while singing Treasure, Never Felt So Good, and September. The crowd erupted in cheers when the Pangandaran, West Java-born singer performed Bunyi Gitar, a classic by the legendary Tan Sri P. Ramlee. "I love P. Ramlee's songs and truly idolise him. Hopefully in the future, I'll be able to sing more of his classics,' he said. However, the mood turned solemn when Cakra announced he would be taking a break after this concert to focus on creating new material, following three consecutive years of performing in Malaysia. "Thank you for the incredible support you've given me every time I perform here. Honestly, I've decided to take a break (from concerts) after this. It's been three straight years of concerts in Malaysia,' he said, visibly tearing up. Cakra previously performed at the A Decade Cakra Khan Live In Kuala Lumpur concert in 2023 and returned with a similarly titled concert last year. As a closing number and farewell to his fans, Cakra performed Harus Terpisah - the hit that propelled him to fame in Malaysia - followed by I Will Always Love You, originally by Whitney Houston, delivered with stunning vocals. - BERNAMA

The concept of Abu Si Raksasa was inspired by a discussion on pollution issues between producer Zamin Fakry and environmental expert Prof Dr Hezri Adnan. The film, which premieres on Sept 11, blends science fiction with the Japanese Kaiju genre, famous for featuring colossal creatures. The story follows a pet salamander, Abu, which mutates into a monster after being exposed to chemicals from toilet cleaning products, Metro Ahad reported. 'We want to offer something different and breathe new life into the film industry,' said Zamin. > Actor Ashraf Muslim has expressed his disapproval of polygamy when a couple is unable to have children. 'This is a very serious and sensitive issue. Remarriage and children are significant matters that affect individuals, their partners, and their families,' the 40-year-old actor told Utusan Malaysia. 'While we experience the joy of family, if we run from problems only to face new ones, that is wrong.' Ashraf, who stars in the drama Mandul Bukan Pilihan, expressed this when asked about the issue of infertility.
