Thackeray-Fadnavis reunion on cards? Aaditya's meet with Maharashtra CM sparks speculation

Speculation are rife over a change in Maharashtra's political landscape following a meeting between Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis at a Mumbai hotel. Aaditya Thackeray reached the Sofitel hotel in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) on Saturday evening around 6 pm. Shortly after, Fadnavis arrived at the hotel, where the two leaders held a closed-door meeting, party insiders told Hindustan Times.
However, the chief minister's office (CMO) said though Fadnavis was at the hotel on Saturday but he did not meet Aaditya.
'The two leaders were there for separate programmes and did not have any meeting,' an official from the Maharashtra CMO said.

Maharashtra CM Fadnavis is in alliance with Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar's NCP. Manwhile, Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT) is in the opposition Maha Vikas Agadhi (MVA), which includes Sharad Pawar's NCP and Congress.
Aaditya's meeting with Fadnavis comes days after Uddhav Thackeray and son Aadtiya Thackeray, met with the Maharashtra CM at the office of Legislative Council Chairman Ram Shinde.
Saturday evening's meeting 'cannot be a coincidence', multiple leaders of Shiv Sena (UBT) and BJP told HT on the condition of anonymity.
The meeting between the BJP and Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders have led to speculations of a possible alliance between the former partners. The development has also evoked reactions from the parties of the rival blocs.
Reunion possible? Rival bloc leaders react
Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) (NCP-SP) leader Prashant Jagtap said a BJP-Shiv Sena (UBT)'s unification will be of 'no surprise' as similar developments have been happening in the state since 2019.
"Anything can happen in Maharashtra. We've already witnessed several unexpected developments after 2019. If they decide to reunite, it won't be shocking for the people of Maharashtra."

However, Jagtap added that he hopes the Shiv Sena (UBT) faction stays with the Maha Vikas Agadhi and doing so otherwise would be a betrayal to the people.
"I truly hope Shiv Sena (UBT) does not join hands with BJP again. The voters backed MVA for its ideology and progressive stance. Reuniting with BJP would be a betrayal of that mandate," he added.
'Scope to come to our side'
During the farewell to Leader of the Opposition in Legislative Council Ambadas Danve earlier this week, Fadnavis indulged in a light-hearted banter with Uddhav Thackeray and invited him to "join the ruling side."
"At least till 2029, there is no scope for us to come there (opposition). Uddhav Ji can think about the scope of coming to this side (ruling party) and that can be thought about in a different way, but there is absolutely no scope left for us to come," Fadnavis said.
The opposition MVA alliance had a dismal performance in the 2024 assembly election, winning only 46 seats.
Shiv Sena (UBT) is the largest party in the MVA alliance with just 20 seats. The Mahayuti alliance, comprising of BJP, NCP (Ajit Pawar) and Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde), had swept the assembly polls by winning a total of 230 out of 288 seats.

TMC attacks BJP on Bengali migrant worker death in Maharashtra; says he was killed for being Bengali

KOLKATA: The Trinamool Congress on Friday alleged that a Bengali worker from West Bengal was murdered in Maharashtra for being a Bengali, escalating its attack on the BJP over 'atrocities' against Bengali speaking people in other states. The Trinamool Congress announced that it would fight against the BJP in every forum on this issue. Referring to the death of a worker in Maharashtra, the Trinamool Congress in a post on X said: 'How many more Bengalis must be butchered before the nation wakes up? A Bengali worker from North 24 Parganas, was MURDERED, his DISMEMBERED BODY STUFFED IN A SACK and dumped near his home in Maharashtra. His only 'crime'? Being Bengali in a @BJP4India -ruled state.' The body of a migrant worker, Abu Bakar Siddiqui, a resident of Baduria in North 24 Parganas in West Bengal, was recovered in Navi Mumbai's Bhasi area. The body was found wrapped in a sack some distance from his house. Siddiqui worked as a mason in Maharashtra. He had been missing since last Sunday. Investigators initially suspected that the murder was due to his wife's extramarital affair. The wife of the deceased and her lover have been arrested for the murder. The body of the migrant worker was returned to his house in Baduria on Thursday night. The family members have demanded strict punishment for the culprits.

Rahul looks back at where he faltered: Didn't protect OBCs because I couldn't understand their issues at the time

A day after he said that the Congress 'fell short' of understanding issues faced by the OBCs and that 'opened up the space' for the BJP, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday said that he didn't protect the OBC community's interests earlier in his political career as the issues faced by them are complex and not easily visible. Addressing a Bhagidari Nyay Sammelan of OBCs at the Talkatora Stadium in Delhi, Gandhi said that while he should score well on issues related to Tribals, Dalits, minorities and women, he couldn't understand the problems of OBCs and admitted that he didn't do enough for the community. He also said that he will be working 'double' on this front from now on. 'Since 2004, I have been in politics. Twenty-one years have passed. When I look back, and in a way, analyse myself – where I did the right thing and where I lacked – I see a couple of big issues. I worked on the Land Acquisition Bill, MGNREGA, Right to Food, Tribal Bill… These things I did well. I feel I should get good marks on issues of Tribals, Dalits, minorities, women… When I look back, I see one thing clearly. I lacked on one thing, made a mistake – what was it? The Congress and I made a mistake. I should have protected the OBC section; I didn't. The reason for this was that I didn't understand your issues at the time,' he said. Gandhi said that around a decade ago, he 'could see the problems faced by Dalits' – 'it was clear and I understood it'. 'Untouchability is their history,' he said. Talking of Tribals, Gandhi said, 'It is easy to understand issues of Tribals – jungle (forest), jal (water), zameen (land) are right there for you to see.' 'But the OBC issues are hidden, and not easy to see. My regret is that if I knew your history and issues, I would have got the caste census done then. And it is my mistake and not the Congress's. The good thing is that if I had got the caste census done then, it wouldn't have been as good as it will be now,' he said. Gandhi said that the Telangana caste survey is like a 'tsunami' and that its 'aftershock' will be felt soon. 'The way the tsunami came… The earthquake that led to the tsunami wasn't seen. It was under the sea… When the tsunami came, its impact was felt 2-3 hours later. The same has happened in Telangana,' he said.

BJP A.P. president P.V.N. Madhav launches ‘Saaradhyam' campaign

In the context of India's progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP Andhra Pradesh State president P.V.N. Madhav unveiled the logo of the 'Saaradhyam' campaign at the BJP State office here on Friday. Speaking to the media, Mr. Madhav announced that he would be commencing a state-wide tour, beginning with a symbolic visit to Kadapa, considered the threshold to the holiest temple of Telugu States — Tirumala. Mr. Madhav said that the 'Saaradhyam' campaign, designed to showcase how India has transformed into a global force under Mr. Modi's leadership, will reach out to the public across all regions. The campaign also aims to educate citizens about the Central government's commitment to uplift marginalized communities through Antyodaya, the vision of empowering the last person in the queue, he said. The campaign will be conducted in five phases across the State, starting from Kadapa — a district historically significant for Telugu identity and the site of the earliest legislative records. As part of this initiative, the BJP will launch programs aimed at nurturing leadership qualities among its workers and instill courage and conviction in party leaders at every level. A range of activities will be rolled out to strengthen the BJP's presence in the state and raise the party flag high, he said. He emphasized that the BJP has emerged as the largest political party in the world, and it is now time to strengthen its grassroots presence across Andhra Pradesh. As part of this effort, the party will hold extensive meetings with karyakartas (party workers) throughout the State. State president of the BJP Minority Morcha Sheikh Baji, BJP spokesperson Sadhineni Yamini Sharma, NTR District BJP president Adduri Sriram, Chairman of the 20-Point Programme Committee Lanka Dinakar, OBC Morcha State president Rongala Gopi Srinivas, Social Media in-charge Keshav Kanth were also present.
