Ricky Martin ripped off mic, stormed off set after Billy Bush nearly outed him mid-interview

Sky News AU11-07-2025
Ricky Martin was fuming when Billy Bush questioned him about his sexuality in the early aughts, the entertainment journalist recalled in a new interview.
Bush — who now regrets the intrusive question — revealed on 'Literally! With Rob Lowe' Thursday that he told the Latin music superstar at the time that eight people he spoke to in the lobby bar the night prior wanted to know 'if you're gay.'
'He stiffens up in the chair and he goes, 'What?' And I go, 'Oh boy,'' the reporter, who was working for 'Access Hollywood' at the time, recalled.
'And he goes, 'You m**********,' rips off his microphone.'
Bush, now 53, claimed Martin, also now 53, added, 'You want your headline … You piece of garbage.'
The 'Livin' La Vida Loca' singer allegedly then walked off the set, leaving the entertainment reporter to say to himself, 'Oh s***,' while his producer also freaked out and said, 'This is terrible.'
Bush, who had flown to Miami for the interview, claimed he got a call from his bosses in Los Angeles shortly after, and they reamed him for his line of questioning.
'I'm not in the business of hurting people. I am in the business of figuring out who I am and where I'm going. And you need to be able to make mistakes in life,' the 'Extra' host told podcaster Rob Lowe, further reflecting on the incident.
Bush said he immediately walked back into the interview location to apologize to Martin, and said, 'Ricky, I am so sorry for asking that question. I don't know what I was thinking. It was a cowboy question. It was inappropriate. I'm so sorry, and I promise you this will never see the light of day.'
The 'Nobody Wants to Be Lonely' singer then transparently told him, 'I've been struggling with this my whole life. There will be a time, there will be a place. It will not be here on this program while I'm promoting this album.'
He continued, 'It is deeply personal to me. I appreciate you coming back in here. I forgive you.'
Martin eventually came out as gay in 2010, approximately seven years after his interview with Bush.
He announced on his website at the time that he was a 'fortunate homosexual man.'
The 'She Bangs' singer added, 'These years in silence and reflection made me stronger and reminded me that acceptance has to come from within and that this kind of truth gives me the power to conquer emotions I didn't even know existed.'
The revelation came after years of speculation about Martin's sexuality from fans and journalists, like Bush, who pried into the details about his personal life.
The now-late Barbara Walters infamously asked the 'She's All I Ever Had' singer about the 'rumors' in a sit-down for '20/20' in 2000, which the renowned news anchor later regretted.
Martin has said that interview left him feeling 'violated' and with 'a little PTSD' because he wasn't ready to come out.

Taylor Swift reveals striking new imagery for upcoming album The Life of a Showgirl

Taylor Swift has revealed striking new imagery for her upcoming album The Life of a Showgirl. The 35-year-old pop star shared a promotional shot for her Shiny Bug Vinyl Collection of the record, which will be available exclusively on her website — sending fans into a frenzy online. A photo showed Taylor leaning against a pale green wall in a sequined red and black bodysuit with nude fishnet tights, her blonde hair loose across her shoulders. The image was captured by photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, whose previous collaborations with Taylor include the artwork for her 2017 album Reputation. Speaking on Travis Kelce's New Heights podcast, she said: 'I loved what they did with those photos, so I called them up for (this album.) 'I am so happy with the way the photos came out with this one.' Taylor also credited producers Max Martin and Shellback on Instagram, saying she was 'so proud' of the songs they had worked on. She explained: 'This is a full send. I care about this record more than I can even overstate.' The aesthetic of the new promotional campaign has provoked strong reactions from fans and critics alike. One fan said on social media: 'We wanted a lead single but you look beautiful, so it's fine.' Another wrote: 'We wanted a single but you served so it's a win.' A third added: 'Taylor isn't dropping an album, she's dropping a bomb. The industry is trembling.' Others, however, voiced disapproval. One user on X wrote: 'Why are you suddenly so desperate to be seen as a sex symbol? LOL.' Another asked: 'Question to all Swifties. When did Taylor start showing skin like the rest of Hollywood?' Discussing the album artwork further, Taylor told the New Heights podcast: 'My day ends with me in a bathtub – not usually in a bedazzled dress – but we try to keep it decent. 'I wanted to glamorise all the different aspects of how (the Eras Tour) felt and (the The Life Of A Showgirl cover) is how that felt at the end of the night.' Taylor added the record reflects her 'offstage' experiences, saying: 'The album cover is meant to depict what the end of my night looks like on tour.' The 14-time Grammy winner also revealed the full 12-song tracklist, which includes The Fate of Ophelia, Elizabeth Taylor, Opalite, Father Figure, Eldest Daughter, Ruin The Friendship, Actually Romantic, Wi$h Li$t, Wood, CANCELLED!, Honey and the title track The Life of a Showgirl. Sabrina Carpenter, 25, features on the title track, while Travis, 34, described all the songs as 'bangers'. Actor Zoë Kravitz, 36, told Extra there were 'no skips' on the record.

Epic new Martin Scorsese docuseries hailed a ‘filmmaker's dream'

An epic new Martin Scorsese docuseries has been hailed a 'filmmaker's dream'. The iconic 82-year-old Taxi Director director Martin is being profiled in Apple TV+'s new five-part series which started on Sunday (17.08.25) and its maker Rebecca Miller has described the project as her finest hour so far. Rebecca, 61, known for She Came to Me and Personal Velocity, uses the Mr. Scorsese show to explore Martin's life and career, charting his journey from his early student films at New York University to his status as one of cinema's most influential directors. The project was made with unrestricted access to Martin's personal archives and features extensive interviews with his family, friends and collaborators. Contributors include 81-year-old Robert De Niro, Daniel Day-Lewis, 67, Leonardo DiCaprio, 50, 81-year-old Mick Jagger and the late Robbie Robertson – along with Martin's long-time editor Thelma Schoonmaker, 84, his old friend Steven Spielberg, 77, and 66-year-old Sharon Stone, as well as 61-year-old Taxi Driver star Jodie Foster and the film's writer Paul Schrader, 78. Stars such as 34-year-old Margot Robbie and Cate Blanchett, 55, also appear. And Martin's wife, 76-year-old Helen Morris, their children, and several of his childhood friends take part. Rebecca was quoted by Variety saying: 'This project is a filmmaker's dream, to have had such access to legends of the industry, from Marty himself to his prolific collaborators, close friends and family members. 'I was honoured he trusted me to create this documentary, which I believe will resonate with everyone from dedicated Scorsese fans to anyone who has grappled with failure and reached for stars.' Rebecca also hailed Martin's 'perseverance and dedication to his art' and said his Taxi Driver film is 'one of the most culturally significant films of all time'. The series is produced by Expanded Media and Round Films in association with LBI Entertainment and Moxie Pictures. Executive producers include Rebecca and her long-time collaborator, 52-year-old Damon Cardasis, as well as Cindy Tolan, 59. 'It's fantastic': Zoe Kravitz delivers verdict on Taylor Swift's The Life of a Showgirl

Zoe Kravitz has heard "a few bits" from Taylor Swift's upcoming new album. The Caught Stealing actress has praised The Life of a Showgirl - which the Bad Blood singer announced last week will be released in October - and reassured fans they will be impressed by every track on the record. Asked if she had heard Taylor's highly-anticipated album, Zoe told Extra: "I've heard bits of it. It's fantaastic, of course. No skips." The interviewer replied: 'No skips? That's rare." But Zoe said: 'For her, it's not.' The 36-year-old actress revealed last week that she and her mom Lisa Bonet stayed in Taylor's house earlier this year amid the Los Angeles wildfires - and ended up destroying her pal's bathroom. Lisa's beloved pet snake Orpheus slithered its way into a tiny hole in the bathroom and they were unable to retrieve her without causing major damage. Appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Zoe said: "I'm going around cleaning up. I'm downstairs and she's upstairs and my phone rings and it was my mom. I'm like, 'That's weird, we're in the same house.' "She goes 'Hi' and I'm like, 'Your voice is super high'. And she goes, 'I'm in a bit of a pickle. Can you come upstairs?' "I go upstairs, the bathroom door is closed, so I open [it] and she's crouched in the corner in this weird way. She says, 'So I was washing my face and I had Orpheus, and I just put her down for a second, closed the door, and she found this little hole in the corner.' "There was a little hole, that you wouldn't even know was there, right in the corner of the bathroom. The hole is next to a banquette that is built into the wall," "My mom is holding the snake's tail. Snake's tail, they're all muscle and very, very strong. I'm like 'Maybe this hole goes into the drawers [underneath']. I get down on the ground, take the drawers out, no." Zoe began "freaking out" as the snake got further and further into the hole and called for help from the house manager, who began "tearing apart" the banquette. She continued: "We're ripping up the tile. We're scratching the walls. We destroyed her bathroom. "I was like, 'Either we destroy her bathroom or I have to tell her that there's a snake somewhere in her house,'" "I said to her house manager, 'Obviously, I'm gonna pay for everything to be fixed. Please just don't say anything until it's fixed.'" But when the Big Little Lies star called her pal, the Look What You Made Me Do hitmaker was already well aware of what had happened. She said: "I remember calling her saying, 'Hey, I wanted to talk to you about something.' And she was like, 'Is it the fact that you almost lost a snake in my house and destroyed my bathroom?' "
