Tony Pulis believes Cardiff City have to appoint an extra footballing person to their board, citing the work Craig Gardner has done at recently-promoted Birmingham City.
The Bluebirds are closing in on the appointment of a new manager following the sacking of Omer Riza and relegation from the Championship, however many fans believe they need to hire more than just a new head coach.

Supporters have long called for a more robust footballing structure at the club, with great responsibility falling on too few shoulders. Join the Cardiff City breaking news and top stories WhatsApp community

And Pulis, who has enjoyed a stellar managerial career with the likes of Stoke City, Crystal Palace, West Brom and Middlesbrough, agrees that Vincent Tan must look beyond appointing only a manager this summer.
Gardner, a former midfielder for Aston Villa, Sunderland and Birmingham City, was appointed technical director at Blues in 2021 before being named director of football earlier this year, charged with driving the club's football strategy, playing identity, recruitment, squad development and performance.
Pulis believes Gardner's appointment has been inspired at Birmingham and the Welshman hopes that if Cardiff can follow their lead, they can also follow the Midlands club in solving issues within the club and bouncing out of League One at the first time of asking.

"Whoever they appoint, again, they have to appoint someone who they believe will get them out of that league," Pulis told BoyleSports, who offer the latest Football odds.
"If you look at Birmingham, there was all sorts of stuff going on at Birmingham for quite a while, they got relegated and it's all doom and gloom.
"They ended up, you know, readdressing everything at the football club, Craig Gardner has done a fantastic job behind the scenes, putting an infrastructure in place.

"The American owners have allowed Craig to get on with it. I've had Craig at two clubs. He's a very, very intelligent boy, very down to earth, meat and potatoes man, but very, very knowledgeable about what's needed.
"I think he's done a fantastic job there. Cardiff need someone like that to go in there and pick a good manager and to get the club organised behind the scenes, I think there's loads of stuff going on at Cardiff that shouldn't even be mentioned but it is mentioned at that football club.
"It's a great football club, it's big, it's the capital city of a country, it's the only club in that city and the potential there, the support potential is just enormous. It needs someone to go in there and really sort the place out and that's not just at first team level, that's right through the football club.

"I really do think they need that. I've mentioned Craig doing that at Birmingham and what he's achieved and everything else, Cardiff need someone like him to go in there and do that."
While Cardiff near their next managerial appointment, it can be said with a great degree of certainty that it will not be Pulis. Sign up to our daily Cardiff City newsletter here.
The 67-year-old has been linked with the Bluebirds job on a number of occasions and revealed he came close to getting the gig once or twice, too.

"I came close to getting the Wales job a couple of times and Cardiff a couple of times as well but it never transpired," he added.
"It wasn't right for both parties at the time.
"But right now I'm sitting in my house in the South of England and I'm quite happy where I am!"

Wrexham smashes its transfer record by signing Broadhead in a deal worth up to $13.5M

Wrexham's spending moved into a new stratosphere Thursday when the team owned by Hollywood celebrities signed winger Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich in a club-record deal that could reportedly reach 10 million pounds ($13.50 million). It took the Welsh club's outlay in the transfer market to more than 20 million pounds ($27 million) in this window as Wrexham reshapes its squad for life in the second-tier Championship following an unprecedented three straight promotions. The 27-year-old Wales international is a former Wrexham academy player and a versatile forward who was a fringe player at Ipswich in the Premier League last season. 'He's a local boy who had a real desire to come and play for his hometown club," Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said in the team's announcement. Among Wrexham's other signings over the last couple of months is former England defender Conor Coady and New Zealand international Liberato Cacace. Lewis O'Brien also joined from Nottingham Forest for what was reportedly a club-record fee of around 3 million pounds ($4 million). Wrexham, which started its Championship campaign last weekend with a 2-1 loss at Southampton after conceding two late goals, is owned by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney and has gained outside investment via the New York-based Allyn family. It is also the subject of the Emmy-winning 'Welcome to Wrexham' documentary, which takes viewers behind the scenes at the club and has boosted the team's global appeal primarily because of the presence of Reynolds. ___

Rangers and EPL side both see £1m offer for keeper 'ignored'

Despite Jack Butland's strong start to the season, Russell Martin is keen to add more depth in that department, with Liam Kelly the only other experienced player available. Charles, 20, has been on the radar after impressing during his brief appearances for the Owls and eight caps for Northern Ireland. He is highly-rated and was even tipped for the very top by former Rangers star Josh Windass on a recent podcast. However, the Telegraph's Mike McGrath is reporting the Championship side have ignored Rangers' offer of £1m plus add-ons, doing the same with West Ham's bid. It is claimed neither interested club has heard back from the Owls and so the deals are off. Rangers are also believed to be considering a loan deal for Arsenal goalkeeper Karl Hein as they look to strengthen between the sticks.

Swansea City boss Alan Sheehan gives update on striker search and outlines what he's looking for

Swansea City boss Alan Sheehan gives update on striker search and outlines what he's looking for The Swans completed their eighth signing of the summer on Thursday but Sheehan is keen to add more new faces to his ranks Swansea City head coach Alan Sheehan (Image: Huw Evans Picture Agency Ltd) Swansea City boss Alan Sheehan says he's keen to add some physicality, as well as quality, to his front line this summer, as the club's search for a striker continues. ‌ The club completed their eighth signing of the summer on Thursday, confirming a move for Brighton and Hove Albion youngster Malick Yalcouye on a season-long loan, but Sheehan is still keen to add more new faces to his ranks before the window slams shut. ‌ A striker is near the top of their wishlist, particularly in light of the departures of Mykola Kuharevich and Jerry Yates, but they haven't yet managed to find a breakthrough. ‌ Richard Kone and Oli McBurnie were options explored earlier in the summer, but both players ended up going elsewhere. Jusef Erabi is among the other options the club have cast an eye over recently, while reports on the continent have credited City with a possible interest in Moussa Sylla, although WalesOnline has since learned the Schalke forward is not currently being considered. Nevertheless, the club are believed to be positive about progress that's been made in their bid to bring another nine on board within the next couple of weeks. Article continues below 'I think there is movement in the background but nothing to share with you just yet," head coach Sheehan said when quizzed on their progress. "I think there's different profiles," he added when quizzed on what sort of striker the club might be looking for. "Obviously you need physicality to be in the Championship. ‌ "You need to have a certain amount of players that are physical to compete. As we've seen the other day [at Middlesbrough], there's nothing between the teams. But when we concede the set-piece it turns into a not so good day. "Whilst at Sunderland away last year, that turns into a wonderful day because we're on the other side of set piece. We would like to bring in a bit more physicality. Article continues below "Somebody that's good at attacking the box. Obviously we've got good players here, but we feel like we need another body in that area. "Adam Worth is obviously on to the coaches and that all the time about different players in different positions, and coming in and looking at the process. "I think there's some good players out there. It's just whether they're the right fit for us and whether they're attainable, and then to get them into the building."
