PM Modi meets family of Pahalgam terror attack victim Shubham Dwivedi in Kanpur
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the family of Pahalgam terror attack victim Shubham Dwivedi at Chakeri airport here on Friday, news agency PTI said. Businessman Shubham Dwivedi (31) was among the 26 people killed in the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.
"The bereaved family members have been apprised about the PMO's decision. Prime Minister Modi will meet Shubham's wife Ashanya and his parents, Sanjay Dwivedi and Seema Dwivedi, at Chakeri airport soon after his special plan lands," Kanpur District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh had told PTI earlier.
Shubham Dwivedi, who got married on February 12 this year, was visiting Pahalgam with his wife and other family members when terrorists opened fire on tourists resulting in his death.
A week ago, Lok Sabha MP from Kanpur Ramesh Awasthi had written to the PMO, requesting Prime Minister Modi to meet the family of Shubham Dwivedi.
Awasthi said in the letter that the family has 'thanked PM Modi for Operation Sindoor as it has brought peace to the soul of Shubham Dwivedi and has expressed desire to thank the prime minister for that.'
Modi is in Uttar Pradesh to lay the foundation stone and inaugurate multiple development projects aimed at boosting the region's infrastructure and connectivity. He will inaugurate the Chunniganj Metro Station to Kanpur Central Metro Station section of Kanpur Metro Rail Project worth over ₹ 2,120 crore.
It will include 14 planned stations with five new underground stations integrating key city landmarks and commercial hubs into the metro network. Additionally, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate road widening and strengthening work of GT Road.
The family has thanked PM Modi for Operation Sindoor as it has brought peace to the soul of Shubham Dwivedi.
Two weeks after the Pahalgam terror attack, India on 7 May conducted precision strikes on at least nine terror camps in Pakistan in what is known as 'Operation Sindoor'. India and Pakistan indulged in four days of military action post Operation Sindoor. The two nations, however, agreed on an understanding to halt military action on 10 May.

Gold and silver rate today: Silver surged to a record high of Rs 1,04,100 per kg in Delhi markets on Thursday, while gold prices also firmed up sharply, driven by strong global cues and a weaker dollar. The previous all-time high for silver was Rs 1,03,500 per kg, recorded on March 19. Gold also saw firm upward movement. The price of gold of 99.9% purity rose Rs 430 to Rs 99,690 per 10 grams, while gold of 99.5% purity gained Rs 400 to Rs 99,100 per 10 grams, both inclusive of all taxes. Silver futures for July delivery rallied by Rs 3,833, or 3.78%, to touch a lifetime high of Rs 1,05,213 per kg on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX). Looking ahead, Rahul Kalantri, Vice President (Commodities) at Mehta Equities, said the metal could climb further. 'The metal might reach around Rs 1,14,000 to Rs 1,20,000 per kg by this Diwali, but investors should brace for a bumpy ride ahead as market volatility remains high amid global uncertainties,' he said. Gold futures for the August contract also gained Rs 635 to reach Rs 99,214 per 10 grams. 'Gold prices traded higher, supported by a weaker dollar and renewed safe-haven demand amid lingering tariff uncertainty and US debt concerns,' said Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst, Commodity and Currency at LKP Securities. Spot gold in international markets rose by $21.58, or 0.64%, to $3,393.93 per ounce. Spot silver jumped nearly 4% to $35.80 per ounce. 'Spot silver has surpassed the previous resistance level of $35 per ounce and is trading above that mark, reaching a 12-year high,' added Gandhi. Chintan Mehta, CEO of Abans Financial Services, said investor focus is now on the upcoming US non-farm payroll report, which may offer cues on the Federal Reserve's next move. 'Any new geopolitical developments could add another layer of uncertainty, once again driving investors toward the safe haven of gold,' he added.

Include developing nations in multilateral institutions, says Lok Sabha Speaker
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday (June 5, 2025) expressed concern over the inadequate representation of developing countries in multilateral institutions. Noting that this imbalance hampers global equity, he urged the BRICS nations to correct it. Addressing the second Working Session of the BRICS Parliamentary Forum in Brasilia, Mr. Birla said global crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic had disproportionately affected the Global South and sought coordinated action to address such challenges. 'We are concerned that representation of developing countries in international institutions remains inadequate. This imbalance hampers global equity and balanced development. Therefore, BRICS countries must collectively make concrete efforts to enhance the participation of the Global South in such institutions,' Mr. Birla said. His speech was shared by the Lok Sabha Secretariat. He said challenges related to health, food and energy security have intensified, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be difficult without concrete and coordinated action. 'Despite global challenges, BRICS nations have made inspiring progress in the realm of economic development. India believes that to further strengthen this progress, we must enhance intra-BRICS trade, investment and financial cooperation,' the Lok Sabha Speaker said. Mr. Birla welcomed the recent expansion of the BRICS grouping and said this will make the collaboration more inclusive and impactful.
