Rolly Romero scores knockdown in decision win over Ryan Garcia in Times Square
Rolly Romero spoiled Ryan Garcia's return to action.
In the headlining bout of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves in the heart of New York's Times Square, Romero (17-2) turned in a solid performance against Garcia (24-2), including scoring the only knockdown of the fight, to win on the scorecards. After 12 rounds, the official judges scored the fight 115-112, 115-112, and 118-109.
Garcia, who returned to action after a one-year suspension, worked a speedy, stiff left jab in the opening round. It was a repeated weapon of choice that set the tone for Garcia's offense. Romero landed a few punches to the body, but was clearly outworked in the opening round.
Romero quickly changed the entire fight in the opening exchanges of Round 2.
Romero rocked Garcia with a pair of hard hooks, sending him to the canvas for the count. Garcia promptly recovered, and the fight continued. Romero attempted to quickly capitalize after the eight count, but Garcia kept him honest with a stiff counter.
Romero's confidence grew in the third round as Garcia's output became slightly more subdued. It was a close frame without any big moments, but Garcia had some nice moments in the closing seconds. In the fourth, Garcia found a home for the left jab as the round wore on, but remained cautious of Romero's forward charges as he landed to the body.
A heated exchange occurred immediately at the start of Round 5, in which Garcia landed the cleaner shots. Garcia kept a steady pace, but didn't put together many combinations as Romero continued to look for punches to the body. The sixth round was another close frame, where Garcia landed a clean left hook as Romero kept him guessing with his movement and body work.
Despite displaying an assertive stance, Garcia's output left more to be desired from his corner. In Rounds 8 and 9, Garcia's left jab scored, but Romero kept things on his terms with more activity as he came forward, mixing up his targets. Romero continued to set the tone in Round 10. He even took risks by overswinging with big punches, some of which missed badly, while a couple connected.
With two rounds remaining, the fight seemed firmly in Romero's control. Garcia's corner pleaded with him to get busy and let his hands go. In Round 10, not much changed despite the fiery speech from Garcia's coach, Derrick James. Romero simply didn't allow Garcia to mount a comeback charge, as he was the one coming forward until the final bell.
Despite winning the fight, Romero was humble in victory and said he believes Garcia should still get his rematch against Devin Haney next, who defeated Jose Ramirez in the co-feature. Garcia said he was affected by the knockdown and credited Romero for good work throughout the fight.

Yankees Trade Idea Ships Out Jasson Domínguez for Royals All-Star
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The New York Yankees need a third baseman, and Eugenio Suárez has emerged as a top target. However, Suárez will have many teams trying to get him and will be expensive, especially considering he will be a free agent after the season. The Yankees may need to pivot from Suárez, and Maikel Garcia of the Kansas City Royals could be a great option. Garcia is under club control through 2029 and was named an All-Star this year. The Royals are 4 1/2 games out of a wild card spot, and could be willing to trade Garcia while his value is high. However, they are going to want a controllable big leaguer as long as they still have a chance to play in October. TORONTO, ON - JULY 23: Jasson Domínguez #24 of the New York Yankees celebrates after hitting a solo home run in the second inning during the game against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre on July 23, 2025 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. MoreThe Athletic's Jim Bowden proposed this trade that would bring Garcia to the Bronx: Yankees receive: 3B Maikel Garcia Royals receive: OF Jasson Domínguez "Domínguez, 22, has slashed .253/.328/.406 with nine homers, 15 doubles and 14 steals (in 16 attempts)," wrote Bowden. "He is not fully developed but should eventually be a 20-to-25-homer corner outfielder. Domínguez, 22, is under team control through 2030. The Yankees could afford to trade him because outfield prospect Spencer Jones is major-league-ready and they would still have Aaron Judge in right, Trent Grisham in center and Cody Bellinger in left." Garcia is slashing .291/.345/.440 in 101 games. He has made most of his appearances at third base, but can also play shortstop, second base and in the outfield. Astros interested in 36 home run third baseman, according to MLB insider
The Houston Astros have seen a few of their key offensive players go down with injury this season. With a week until the MLB trade deadline, the team is exploring options to bolster the roster, which has dealt with such injuries. Most recently, the injury to Isaac Paredes, which, as manager Joe Espada described, is "pretty serious," could lead general manager Dana Brown to inquire about third base options. And according to Francys Romero of the Astros are interested in one of the top third basemen on the trade market this season. "The Astros are also showing interest in Eugenio Suarez and have a deep enough farm system to back a potential trade, per industry sources." Romero writes. This report from Romero comes a little after the Seattle Mariners swung a deal for another Arizona Diamondbacks star in Josh Naylor. But the Mariners are still in on Suarez, and now, the Astros are interested in him too. Suarez, the 34-year-old third baseman, has been on a tear this season. He has 36 home runs, an MLB-leading 86 RBIs, and a .918 OPS. He also earned his second career All-Star nod and reached 300 career home runs this season. But, in the final year of his $79 million deal, and with the Diamondbacks' struggles, Suarez has become one of the hottest commodities at the trade deadline. MORE: Astros named a 'strong trade fit' for Braves three-time All-Star silver slugger Romero's report, beyond the Astros' interest, is noteworthy. For the talk surrounding the Astros' farm system being weak, this report suggests that the Astros could swing a deal for Suarez, one of the top names on the market at this trade deadline. With a week to go until the deadline, Houston will have a chance to make a push for Suarez. While the cost may be high, Romero's report indicates that they have enough to land him. The Astros, amid Paredes' injury, are interested in Suarez and have the trade capital to bring him to Houston. It'd be a huge move, but the Astros are reportedly interested in making such a move happen. Red Sox Predicted To Cut Ties With Talented Top Prospect In Deadline Trade
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Boston Red Sox seem bound to be one of the more aggressive teams at the trade deadline, whether it's as buyers, sellers or a mix of both. Boston could chase some controllable pitchers on the market as it looks to build a team that can win right now and in the future. But in deals for valuable pieces, the Red Sox will need to give up some valuable prospects of their own. Katie Manganelli of Bo Sox Injection recently predicted the Red Sox would cut ties with talented outfield prospect Jhostynxon Garcia in a trade ahead of the upcoming deadline. BOSTON, MA - APRIL 26: The hat and glove of Bobby Dalbec #29 of the Boston Red Sox is displayed during the eighthinning of a game against the Chicago Cubs on April 26, 2024 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. More Billie Weiss/Boston"The Red Sox's outfield logjam of Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu, Ceddanne Rafaela, Roman Anthony, Masataka Yoshida and Rob Refsnyder has been the subject of much trade speculation," Manganelli wrote. "Multiple teams reportedly have their eye on Duran or Abreu, but Boston may keep its major league outfield intact for the rest of this season. If it does, Jhostynxon Garcia could be its prime trade candidate." "Garcia's recent success and new top prospect status could make him a great return for other clubs interested in trading with Boston. Trading him would also open a roster spot for one of the Sox's deadline additions, although it shouldn't be done hastily." If the Red Sox are going to make a big splash, as it appears they will, they're going to have to use big bait on the trade block. Garcia would be that big bait. He's a top 100 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, for a reason. But the Red Sox don't have room for him in Boston because of their loaded outfield. Using Garcia as a trade chip could be the headliner in a deal for a star pitcher. Somebody like Edward Cabrera or Mitch Keller comes to mind because they're controllable beyond 2025. Either way, Garcia is probably the first name the Red Sox will use on the trade market when chasing the better players in the league.
