Writers Jon and Erich Hoeber have sold Netflix on the pitch for "The Leading Man," an action comedy based on the comic book series from Jeremy Haun and B. Clay Moore, with Kevin Hart and John Cena attached to star and produce.
In early development, the project brings the Hoebers back to Netflix following the sale of their original script "Fast & Loose," an actioner to star Will Smith, which is currently in pre-production and looking for a new director.
The pic's logline is as follows: When a self-absorbed movie star (Cena) discovers that his co-star/man in the chair (Hart) is an actual agent, he's forced to swallow his pride and accept that action stars aren't really action heroes…while trying to save the world.
Hart will produce alongside Luke Kelly-Clyne and Bryan Smiley for "Hartbeat," under the company's multi-film deal with Netflix, along with Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum for RK Films, Eric Gitter and Peter Schwerin for Ignition Productions, Cena, and Dan Baime. Executive producers include Zak Roth for RK Films, Jon and Erich Hoeber, and Jeremy Haun for Ignition.
News of Hart's involvement with "The Leading Man" comes amid his work on "72 Hours," a Netflix comedy helmed by Tim Story, where he'll star alongside Marcello Hernández and Mason Gooding.
The comedic multi-hyphenate's previous output for the giant streamer includes the films "Fatherhood," "Me Time," The Man from Toronto," and "Lift, along with the limited series "True Story."
Recently at work on "Little Brother," a Netflix comedy where he'll star opposite Eric André, Cena is coming off of "Heads of State," an Amazon MGM action comedy co-starring Idris Elba, which has brought in over 75 million worldwide viewers since its July 2nd launch on Prime Video, making it the fourth most-watched Amazon MGM film of all-time on Amazon's OTT service. Upcoming, he also has "Coyote vs. Acme," the live-action "Matchbox" movie from Apple, Mattel Studios and Skydance, and "Peacemaker" Season 2 on HBO Max.

"One Piece" Renewed for Season 3

Yara Sameh 'One Piece' has been renewed for Season 3 at Netflix despite the live-action pirate show not returning for a second season until 2026. The news came out of the annual One Piece Day celebration in Tokyo, Japan, in Tokyo, where the giant streamer revealed that Ian Stokes, who has been co-executive producer on One Piece, is set to join Joe Tracz as co-showrunner. He succeeds Matt Owens, who departed in March after serving as executive producer and co-showrunner on Seasons 1 and 2. Tracz became co-showrunner in Season 2 and has been shepherding the season through post-production following Owens' exit. Production on season 3 will kick off in Cape Town, South Africa, later this year. "One Piece" follows Monkey D. Luffy on his quest to find the legendary fabled treasure, the One Piece, and become King of the Pirates. After its debut on Netflix in 2023, the live-action series spent eight weeks on the Global Top 10, reaching No. 1 in over 75 countries and making history as the first Netflix English-language series to debut at No. 1 in Japan. The show has nearly 100M views and is one of Netflix's most downloaded shows of all time. Officially titled 'One Piece: Into the Grand Line,' the official description for Season 2 states: 'Netflix's epic high-seas pirate adventure, 'One Piece,' returns for Season 2—unleashing fiercer adversaries and the most perilous quests yet. Luffy and the Straw Hats set sail for the extraordinary Grand Line—a legendary stretch of sea where danger and wonder await at every turn. As they journey through this unpredictable realm in search of the world's greatest treasure, they'll encounter bizarre islands and a host of formidable new enemies.' Iñaki Godoy stars as Luffy. The cast also includes Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. Additional cast members are Vincent Regan, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Morgan Davies, Aidan Scott, Langley Kirkwood, Jeff Ward, Celeste Loots, Alexander Maniatis, McKinley Belcher III, Craig Fairbrass, Steven Ward, and Chioma Umeala. Season 2 will introduce several new cast members, including David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3, Katey Sagal as Dr. Kureha, Sendhil Ramamurthy as Nefertari Cobra, and Joe Manganiello as Mr. 0. Netflix's 'One Piece' has gone through a number of showrunner changes across three seasons. The show was originally developed by Owens and Steven Maeda. They served as co-showrunners on Season 1, but Maeda stepped down going into Season 2, with Tracz becoming co-showrunner. But then Owens also announced his departure from the series following work on Season 2. The Netflix show was created in partnership with Shueisha and produced by Tomorrow Studios (an ITV Studios partner) and Netflix. Owens and Tracz are writers, executive producers, and co-showrunners on Season 2. 'One Piece' creator also executive produces along with Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements through Tomorrow Studios, Tetsu Fujimura, Chris Symes, Christoph Schrewe, and Maeda. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani

Michael Bay Exits Will Smith Netflix Action Movie "Fast and Loose"

Yara Sameh Netflix is back to searching for a director for "Fast and Loose," after Michael Bay and Will Smith were unable to bridge creative differences and Bay exited the project. "Fast and Loose" stars Smith as a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memories. As he pieces together his past, he learns he's been living two lives: one as a crime kingpin and the other as an undercover CIA agent. The script was written by Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner, and Eric Pearson. The film has action as well as comic moments, but Bay wanted more emphasis on the former while Smith wanted to lean into the latter. They are looking to shoot in October, and Netflix will lock in a new filmmaker to keep things on track. Bay has plenty else to do. He is discussing with Paramount a return to the Transformers fold with a new version of that tentpole, and he's also percolating at Universal OutRun, an adaptation of the video game that is a star vehicle for Sydney Sweeney. Jayson Rothwell is scripting with Bay and Brad Fuller producing with Sweeney. A reunion between Bay and Smith was significant because their stars launched together with 1995's "Bad Boys." That film was Bay's film directing debut, and it was the vehicle that provided the first glimpse of how well Smith would fare as a charismatic action star. "Fast and Loose" is being produced by Smith's Westbrook Studios and Kelly McCormick and David Leitch for 87North. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results
