Amazon Prime fans rush to binge 'incredible' thriller axed 10 years ago
Amazon Prime Video fans have been rushing to catch up with all five seasons of an intense spy thriller series that was cancelled 10 years ago.
Covert Affairs, which started in 2010, follows the story of Annie Walker – a young CIA trainee who gradually becomes a key agent in the organisation.
Starring Piper Perabo as Annie, the drama ran for five years and produced more than 70 episodes, winning several awards along the way.
Despite being positively received by critics and winning those awards, viewership figures dropped from 6.7 million to 3.3 million over five seasons.
This meant that the show was cancelled in 2014 and didn't return for the 2015 TV calendar, but still rounded off its story with a 16-episode final season.
Now, in 2025, Covert Affairs has become one of the top trending shows on Amazon Prime Video, with people urging other TV viewers on social media to start watching it if they haven't already.
@Ralphydir said: 'Today I was watching Covert Affairs all over again. It's such a fun TV series to watch they had so many episodes in five years and there's always something you wanna see again. The very first episode is incredible.'
@LestatxLouis was particularly ecstatic that the show had returned: 'It's been years since Prime Video took off Covert Affairs and now they've brought it back!'
In Covert Affairs, actor Cristopher Gorham played Auggie Anderson, Annie's CIA handler who was blinded on a previous mission – and fans became almost too familiar with Auggie.
Speaking about Christopher taking on a role in a new TV show, Cindy Cinocco said: 'It's weird seeing [Christopher] not blind. I know he's not – but we got so used to seeing him that way in Covert Affairs.'
Before Covert Affairs came to streaming in the UK, Luke Godfrey lamented its lack of availability on these shores: 'Good series. Unfortunately it's not available on any streaming platforms for free here in the UK.'
On IMDb, user Brady Peter said the series 'had [him] glued right throughout' and called the ending 'sensational,' while praising the 'compelling' action sequences in the show.
Chris Fairhall, also on IMDb, said he stayed patient and was rewarded: 'Almost exactly around the middle of season 3, it suddenly gets better and stays that way. The writing, the action, the subterfuge, it becomes an eminently bingeable spy thriller.' More Trending
The series also starred Kari Matchett as senior office Joan Campbell, Anne Dudek as Annie's older sister Danielle, and Sendhil Ramamurthy as CIA office Jai Wilcox.
Covert Affairs was produced by Doug Liman, who directed 2000s films such as Mr and Mrs Smith, Jumper, and The Bourne Identity, before overseeing Edge of Tomorrow (Live Die Repeat) starring Tom Cruise.
David Bartis, who also produced the series, became known for his backroom work on Suits and The OC, as well as films such as the 2008 remake of Knight Rider.

'Loopy' action thriller lands on Amazon Prime with viewers cancelling plans
A new action thriller film has already landed on Amazon Prime Video despite its UK cinema release date only coming two months ago. The Accountant 2, starring Ben Affleck, is a sequel to the 2016 action film The Accountant, which also starred Ben in the lead role of Christian Wolff. Following the story of autistic accountant Christian, The Accountant followed Ben's character as he secretly reworked accounts for international criminal organisations. It received a mixed response from critics, and has a 53% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but has developed a cult following in the nine years since its release. And while it was made on a budget of $44million (£32.5m), the film – directed by Gavin O'Connor – made back $155m (£115m) at the global box office. Starring Anna Kendrick too, The Accountant was popular with viewers, and a sequel was greenlit by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer after years of development. Directed again by Gavin O'Connor, The Accountant 2 saw Ben Affleck reprise his role and starred opposite Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, and JK Simmons once more. The sequel sees Christian drawn back into the criminal underworld after a mutual acquaintance is killed, uncovering a deadly conspiracy along the way. Critics were much kinder to it upon release earlier this year, with the film currently boasting a solid 72% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on more than 200 reviews. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Fans are super keen too, with the audience rating sat at 92%, which is a marked improvement upon the 77% audience rating from the first film. On X, user @4P1HT commented: 'The Accountant 2 is a solid action entertainer. It also gets unexpectedly quite intense in some places.' @PlanetReview concurred: 'The film is a fun buddy comedy. It's proof that a movie doesn't have to be deep to have a good time at the movies, and that's perfectly fine! 'The action is fun too. The characters are funny. However, the chemistry between leads Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal is as charming as it is electric.' Variety film critic Owen Gleiberman referred to The Accountant 2 as 'agreeably loopy' and described it as a 'hyperviolent good time'. @UcheKL said 'Jon Bernthal and Ben Affleck have amazing screen chemistry,' while @HeyKayKay described 'the brother chemistry' as 'top notch'. @HayKayKay also argued: 'Wait. I thought [The Accountant 2] was even better than the first one and so heartfelt. Like, I'm over here crying.' More Trending @MarkOwenH raved: 'The Accountant 2 was not good… it was excellent. Normally the second installment is mailed into the viewer. Not in this case. Well done gentlepeople. Well done indeed.' And @RobertPalacios2 said: 'I enjoyed The Accountant 2 even more on a second viewing. Affleck and Bernthal are a great pairing.' While The Accountant 2 has gone over better with fans and critics, its box office figures didn't quite match up, with the film making back just $101m (£74.5m) against a budget of $80m (£59m). Clarkson's Farm fans think they spotted 'editing error' – but there's more to it
Jeremy Clarkson fans thought they spotted an editing mistake in the season 4 finale (Picture: Amazon Prime) Clarkson's Farm fans got quite the shock when they tuned in to watch the season 4 finale today. For a brief moment during the closing moments of the eighth episode, there was a strange blink and you'll miss it moment where a woman holding a red case flashed up on screen. The cameo – if you want to call it that – seems rather inexplicable, and it's not commented on by the narration, which has led some online to label it an editing error. On X, @Nc2012_700x wrote that, 'While watching Clarkson's Farm on Amazon Prime Video, a still image of a woman flashed on screen for a split second. Likely an editing mistake. Anyone else notice this?' They weren't the only ones to spot the 'mistake'.@gibsey007 tagged Jeremy in a tweet and asked, 'Why was a single frame added to your end message. Who is she?' Meanwhile, on Reddit, WasKnown asked other Clarkson's farm fans 'was symbolic of anything or an editing mistake? So confused by that.' The above photo made a blink and you'll miss it appearance in the episode (Picture: Justin Tallis/AFP via Getty Images) Of course, if you've been paying attention to British politics over the last few months, you'll know this wasn't an editing mistake or a random gag. The woman in question is Rachel Reeves, the current Chancellor of the Exchequer, who upset farmers with her recent budget. Basically, the UK government has reintroduced a 20% inheritance tax on farms valued at more than £1million. This means the children and heirs of some farmers will no longer inherit land tax-free as they once did. Needless to say, the move has upset a number of farmers across the UK who claim that while their assets may be valuable, they are cash poor. They argue then this new law will force those inheriting farms to sell their land if they want to pay the tax bill. The picture was likely no accident however (Picture: In Pictures via Getty Images) Farmers claim this puts the future of the industry at risk and threatens food security in the UK. Supporters on the other hand, argue that the current law – which means farmers don't pay inheritance tax – is being abused by the wealthy to avoid taxes. Furthermore, they claim that only a small percentage of UK farmers will be affected Still, the British farming community was so incensed by the proposal that there were widespread protests in London, with Jeremy Clarkson becoming something of a spokesperson for the movement. Speaking to Sky News during one protest, Clarkson demanded that the government 'back down' on the policy. Rachel Reeves has upset farmers by changing inheritance tax laws (Picture:) 'If you make a mistake, we all do, and they have, be big enough to say we made a mistake here, and then back down,' he said. It seems likely, then, that the picture of Reeves which flashes up just as Jeremy says 'next year couldn't be any worse' is a not-so-subtle dig at the chancellor's plans, which will come into force from 2026. Jeremy has become the farmer's unofficial spokesperson on the issue (Picture: Getty Images) While some fans were baffled by Reeve's appearance, others immediately got the gag and shared their thoughts on it on social media. @jfyuga wrote on X, 'Seeing a subliminal frame of Rachel Reeves with the red briefcase during the last episode of Clarkson's Farm 4…. Well played @JeremyClarkson'. Shane Ó Dubhuir, meanwhile, added, 'Rachel Reeves very brief appearance at the end of Clarkson's Farm [crying face emoji].'
