Man injured in shooting during large gathering in Philadelphia's Frankford section, police say

CBS News13 hours ago
Philadelphia police are investigating a shooting that happened at a large gathering in the city's Frankford neighborhood Saturday night.
Officers responded to the 1600 block of Orthodox Street in Frankford after hearing 10 shots were fired and people were spotted running away from a large gathering in a vacant lot just before 11:45 p.m., according to police.
Police arrived and spoke with a man bearing a rifle who said he was working security for the event.
Investigators believe an altercation happened where another armed man threatened a member of the security team. Police believe the security guard with the rifle responded to the threat by firing his weapon.
Investigators later found the man who made the threat and recovered a 9mm firearm from him.
Police said they brought the man to the hospital for a leg injury that turned out to be a gunshot wound.
Investigators recovered four fired cartridge casings from the scene.
The Shooting Investigation Group is investigating the incident.

Virginia State Police identify two victims killed in crash on I-64 in Augusta County

Virginia State Police have identified two people who were killed on Interstate 64 after a truck went off the roadway the morning of July 22 in Augusta County. A 2026 Freightliner TMA crash truck, used to protect workers and motorists in highway work zones, was eastbound on I-64. At approximately 6:19 a.m. at mile marker 89, police said the driver overcorrected, causing the truck to veer off the right side of the interstate. The truck went through a guardrail and down an embankment, striking a tree and overturning on its side. Both the driver and passenger in the truck died at the scene. The driver was identified as Georgeanna L. Hardesty, 51, of Iron Gate. The passenger was Sabrina L. Harris, 50, of Covington. Both were wearing seatbelts, police said. The crash remains under investigation. Multiple people killed in mass shooting incident at Bangkok market: police

Multiple people were shot and killed at a market in the Thai capital of Bangkok on Monday afternoon, police said. A post on the official Facebook page of the Royal Thai Police says there were at least six fatalities, including the gunman who took his own life. Photos show police on scene at the Or Tor Kor market in Bangkok, which sells agricultural produce and local food. The victims included four security guards and one woman, according to the Erawan Emergency Medical Center that monitors Bangkok hospitals. Monday's violence came against the backdrop of five days of violent border clashes between Thailand and its neighbor, Cambodia. Leaders on either side were meeting in Malaysia on Monday in an urgent effort to resolve the fighting. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said State Department officials were on the ground in Malaysia to assist in the peace talks. "Both President Trump and I remain engaged with our respective counterparts for each country and are monitoring the situation very closely," Rubio said in a statement. "We want this conflict to end as soon as possible." This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
