NY Giants Running Back Praises Training Camp Standout

After making an array of changes in the offseason, there are countless players to keep an eye on during the New York Giants' training camp. Upon emerging as an early standout, one rookie continues to receive praise for his skill set.
When it comes to the Giants' rookie class this year, the most notable name is quarterback Jaxson Dart. However, running back Cam Skattebo has quickly made a name for himself. Based on how he's looked thus far, the former fourth-round pick looks ready to make an impact from day one.
Despite being slightly undersized at 5-foot-10, Skattebo is a versatile talent in the backfield. His abilities as a dual-threat back were on full display during his senior season at Arizona State, racking up 1,711 yards on the ground and 605 in the air. Skattebo's 2,300-plus scrimmage yards were good enough for a top-five finish in Heisman voting, and now he has a chance to carve out a role for himself with the Giants.
While talking with the media on Tuesday, Giants RB Tyrone Tracy was asked about Skettebo's performance in camp thus far. He had nothing but good things to say about the rookie, stating that he's going to be a strong addition to the backfield.

"We both can catch out the backfield, we both can pass protect," Tracy said. "He can do really anything just like I can really do anything. It adds as a really good addition to our running back room because when you add a player like that who can give that power element, when you watch his film you can obviously see on film what he brings to the table."
"The man is strong and powerful, I'm more slippery and elusive...but he can do really anything, just like I can do really anything"

With the two of them being threats on the ground and in the air, Tracy believes it will result in a free-flowing dynamic in the Giants' backfield instead of players having set roles in certain situations.
"There is no third down back, there is no you're a passing down back, whatever," Tracy continued. "There's not that in our room. There's more so can you play, and when you do get the opportunities, take care of it."

Following an impressive rookie season last year, Tracy now has another versatile back to work in tandem with him in the Giants' backfield.

Justin Fields Assessment Should Fire Up NY Giants Fans

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The New York Jets are hoping to hit on their recent quarterback acquisition, Justin Fields. After spending time with Aaron Rodgers under center, the Jets mutually split with the veteran quarterback this offseason. Fields enters the picture and both teams are hoping for a positive fresh start. A reporter asked New York Giants pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux how it's going for Fields in a Jets uniform from his perspective. The veteran didn't hold back, claiming that Fields was doing a lot more running than throwing. via @PLeonardNYDN: #Giants edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux was asked for his evaluation of Justin Fields as a QB after 2 days of practices against the #Jets. Thibodeaux says he honestly can't give one because Fields had to spend so much time running and scrambling away from the Giants' pass rush. #Giants edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux was asked for his evaluation of Justin Fields as a QB after 2 days of practices against the #Jets. Thibodeaux says he honestly can't give one because Fields had to spend so much time running and scrambling away from the Giants' pass rush — Pat Leonard (@PLeonardNYDN) August 14, 2025 Is this a shot at Fields for not being able to read the coverage and settle in to get his throws off? Or is it Thibodeaux simply pointing out that the Giants' pass rush has been so dominant that they haven't given Fields a chance to get comfortable in the pocket? If it's the latter, Giants fans should feel fired up. All offseason long, the Giants' pass rush has been one of the brightest spots when it comes players or reporters assessing the team. This week, the Giants have been able to put their rush to the test in practice against the other New York-based organization, and it seems to be going well for Big Blue. Justin Fields #7 of the New York Jets practices during training camp at Atlantic Health Jets Training Center on July 28, 2025 in Florham Park, New is heading into year four. He played in just 12 games last season, which amounted to 28 tackles, eight for a loss, and 5.5 sacks. That's a down year compared to his 50 tackles, 12 for a loss, and 11.5 sacks in 2023, when he played 17 games for the first and only time this year. With the Giants adding another dominant pass rusher to the picture in Abdul Carter, that should only make it more difficult for offensive lines to place their attention on everybody, including Thibodeaux. There might be more cooks in the kitchen, but that should put more food on Thibodeaux's plate. After a week of joint practices with the Jets, the Giants will take the field at MetLife Stadium for the first time this preseason on Saturday. Giants fans are unlikely to get a long look at their full pass rush—if any at all. Meanwhile, Fields could suit up and continue working on learning his new system in New York. The veteran quarterback is on his third team since getting drafted 11th overall in 2021. Fields spent his first three seasons in the NFL with the Chicago Bears. Last year, he was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he started in six of the 10 games he appeared in. Back in March, Fields signed a two-year deal with the Jets. He's expected to be the team's full-time starter this year. With 44 starts under his belt, Fields holds a 14-30 record. He has thrown for 7,780 yards, 45 touchdowns, and 31 interceptions. Retired Cowboy: 'Going to be hell to play the New York Giants'

The New York Giants underwent numerous changes in the offseason, most notably in their quarterback room. Now, just a few weeks left before the start of the season, there is a different aura surrounding the team. Even with all the changes and a roster featuring several solid to very good players, there aren't many who have high expectations for the Giants in 2025. However, ESPN analyst and former NFL defensive end Marcus Spears believes in Big Blue. In fact, Spears says, it might be "hell" to play the Giants this season. "I'm one of those people who thinks it's going to be hell to play the New York Giants. Like, I really do, man," Spears said on the Pat McAfee Show. "Like, the physical brand they play on defense, but offensively, if they can get... One, if (Russell Wilson) can hold it down until -- we know Jaxson Dart's the future. If he (Wilson) can hold it down and have some success -- the one thing we know about Russ, he can throw that thing down the field, and Malik Nabers can catch it downfield. "Offensive line ain't bad. You have a physical football team up front; left tackle is in a good situation right now. Jaxson Dart is going to be the answer. I'm a big Brian Daboll fan. Love him. I think he's one of the best in the league. But what it's going to come down to, and the Giants know this right now, we're going to have to kick people's (expletive) on the line of scrimmage, and I think they have the personnel to do it. "So, if they are in games in the fourth quarter in the NFC East and they got an opportunity to either rush the passer and get people off the field, or they can be physical at the point of attack or push the ball down the field, I think they'll have the personnel to do it. Remember this, fellas -- a lot of this, for the Giants, has been personnel, bro. They haven't had good rosters for a minute, and I think they are marketably better on both sides of the ball now." Most believe the Giants had an upgrade on the offensive side of the ball by bringing in Wilson to be their starting quarterback and by adding a few depth pieces in the NFL draft. On defense, the Giants selected Abdul Carter, who has some high expectations surrounding him, and rightfully so. Additionally, they made splashes in free agency by adding defensive backs Paulson Adebo and Jevon Holland. There is certainly some talent on the Giants' roster. However, with the difficult schedule coming off a three-win season, it's hard to sell them being a good team this season, especially within a tough division. Spears is confident in the Giants and the buzz surrounding the team ahead of their 2025 season. On paper, this may be the most talented roster that Brian Daboll has had since coming to the organization.
