IND A vs ENG Lions: KL Rahul scores century in 2nd Unofficial Test
KL Rahul on Friday scored a century for India A on the first day of the second unofficial Test match against England Lions at the County Ground in Northampton.
He got to the mark in 151 deliveries with 13 fours and a six. This was Rahul's 19th First-Class ton, and his first for India A.
The Karnataka batter was added to the A squad for the second unofficial Test after missing the first game due to his Indian Premier League commitment with Delhi Capitals.
Rahul opened the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal, a major development ahead of the five-match series against England as India tries to figure out its batting order after the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
The 33-year-old had also stepped up into the opening spot during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia when Rohit was unavailable.

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 7 (ANI): Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered an increase in the compensation announced for the families of those who died in the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede in Bengaluru to Rs 25 lakh each. Earlier, the government had announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi demanded that CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar should 'resign right now' in connection with the June 4 stampede near Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed 11 lives and left dozens injured. Joshi told reporters, 'The state government should bear moral responsibility. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar should not continue on his position even for a moment. CM and Deputy CM should resign right now.' Earlier, top senior officials of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), Secretary A Shankar and Treasurer ES Jairam, tendered their resignations, taking 'moral responsibility' for the stampede that took place near M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday ahead of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team's felicitation after winning their Indian Premier League (IPL) title by defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a tight final on Tuesday. Meanwhile, a Bengaluru Sessions Court on Friday remanded four individuals, including senior Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) official Nikhil Sosale and three event managers, to 14 days of judicial custody in connection with the stampede. They were arrested in a joint operation by the Cubbon Park police and the Central Crime Branch (CCB) at Kempegowda International Airport in the early hours of June 6 (Friday). Earlier in the day, the Karnataka High Court granted interim relief to the office bearers of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), who had approached the court seeking the quashing of the FIR registered against them in connection with the an interim order, the court directed the state police not to take any coercive action against them until further orders. The High Court adjourned the case to June 9. KSCA President Raghu Ram Bhat, Secretary A Shankar, Treasurer ES Jairam, and other KSCA office bearers moved the High Court seeking to quash the FIR. Nikhil Sosale also approached the High Court to challenge his arrest. He claimed that he was arrested without any materials and even before the police had conducted a preliminary enquiry. He has thus sought to declare his arrest as illegal. On Thursday, the Bengaluru police registered an FIR against the RCB franchise, DNA Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., an event management company, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) for culpable homicide, illegal assembly, and other serious charges. A day after the stampede , the Karnataka police suspended multiple IPS officers, including the Bengaluru city police Commissioner, B Dayananda. Apart from Dayananda, Additional Commissioner of Police Vikash Kumar Vikash, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shekhar HT, Assistant Commissioner of Police Balakrishna and Cubbon Park Police Inspector Girish AK were also suspended with immediate effect. Bengaluru stampede: KSCA Secretary, Treasurer resign after emergency meeting
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 7 (ANI): Two top Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) officials -- secretary A Shankar and treasurer ES Jairam -- resigned from their posts during an emergency managing committee meeting held on Saturday, accepting 'moral responsibility' for stampede near M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The incident occurred during celebrations following Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) maiden IPL title win and claimed 11 lives and left dozens injured. KSCA President Raghuram Bhat confirmed the development, saying that the resignations were discussed and accepted during an emergency meeting on Saturday. 'I had called an emergency managing committee meeting. Two of our members -- the secretary and treasurer -- have resigned on moral grounds. The committee has accepted their resignations. So far, nothing has come in. When the inquiry takes place, we have already told the government and the High Court that we will never shy away from anything that is there. We are ready to cooperate with the investigation,' Bhat told reporters. Speaking to ANI later, the KSCA said, 'The two resignation letters have been accepted by the managing committee. Today, it was important to accept the resignations as it has already come into the public domain.' The stampede occurred during the celebrations following Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title win on Wednesday, June 4. The incident sparked widespread concern regarding crowd management and safety arrangements at major public events. The stampede left 11 people dead and several others injured. Communicating to KSCA on Friday night, both Shankar and Jairam wrote as quoted by ESPNCricinfo, 'Due to the unforeseen and unfortunate events that have unfolded in the last two days, and though our role was very limited, but owing moral responsibility, we wish to state that last night we have tendered our resignation to our respective posts as secretary and treasurer of the KSCA.' The Bengaluru Police also filed a first information report (FIR) against the popular IPL franchise on Thursday, as per ESPNCricinfo. The police have said that RCB was not given permission to conduct the event at the stadium. RCB has been listed as the first accused in the FIR, along with DNA Entertainment, the franchise's event partners, and the KSCA, which is in control of the stadium. On Friday, the cops also confirmed the arrest of RCB's marketing and revenue head Nikhil Sosale, while acting on directives of newly appointed police commissioner SK Singh, who took over after his predecessor was removed by the chief minister Siddaramaiah after the incident. Later that day, a writ petition was filed by KSCA, arguing that the FIR against them was a move made under pressure of state government by the police and hence a 'knee-jerk' reaction. KSCA said that the stampede was caused due to an unexpected crowd surge and no intent or motive could be attributed to the petitioners. They also stressed that the crowd management was a responsibility which lied with the franchise's management, event organisers and the police. The council defending the state's cricket governing body also raised concerns about Sosale's arrest, claiming that it indicated a targeted approach. Sosale also approached the Karnataka High Court and challenged his arrest, as per Bar and Bench, an Indian legal news platform. RCB is yet to issue an official statement on Sosale's arrest, though on Thursday, they announced compensation worth Rs 10 lakh for the family of each deceased and also pledged to cover the medical expenses of those who sustained injuries. Hazlewood confident ahead of WTC final return
London [UK], June 7 (ANI): Josh Hazlewood believes he's in the best rhythm of his career as he targets a return to Australia's Test XI for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against South Africa at Lord's. After battling a series of injuries in recent years, the veteran seamer is aiming to fill one of the few remaining gaps in his stellar career. Hazlewood arrived late in the UK, alongside Josh Inglis, after completing a sensational Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), where he picked up 22 wickets and played a crucial role in their title-winning run. He has slowly eased back into red-ball preparation, bowling around five overs at moderate intensity during Australia's optional training session in Beckenham on Saturday. A more intense workout is planned at Lord's, where he is expected to ramp up to near full pace. If he pulls up well, Hazlewood will likely edge out Scott Boland for a spot in the starting XI. Since returning to the Test setup during the 2023 Ashes, Hazlewood has been in remarkable form, claiming 57 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 19.68. 'I was obviously quite close last time (in 2023),' Hazlewood said, as quoted from ESPNcricinfo. 'I just had more of an interrupted IPL leading into that, and then had a few little issues going on, so wasn't quite up to scratch, but I feel in a much better place this time around,' he added. 'And I think in any format, my numbers over the last two years have been pretty good, so have got a lot to fall back on in terms of skill wise. I still feel like I'm bowling probably the best over my career and it's just a matter of the body holding up, which it has been in the last few months,' he noted. 'I think the intensity is probably a big one for me to tick that box,' he said, as quoted from ESPNcricinfo. 'We're definitely adapting training to sort of get those back-to-back days in, get a big day, followed by another bowling session the day after and things like that, just to try and try and get our head around it and put ourselves in the best possible position we can be,' he noted. Hazlewood is optimistic that the slightly delayed conclusion of the IPL won't hamper his preparation. He remains confident about getting sufficient red-ball training under his belt before the final. 'I ticked over some good overs just before the final in Ahmedabad, in different weather than this,' he said. 'It was quite a tough session. And then every time you play a game in the IPL, you're probably going to get almost seven or eight overs in if you really want and around with warm-ups. I had a number of times where I bowled back-to-back days, again at high intensity, with the game being one of those,' he noted. One tactical adjustment the right-arm seamer is focused on in English conditions is pitching the ball a bit fuller. 'In the IPL games, I was probably hitting around that seven-to nine-meters in the powerplay, and not really threatening the stumps as much as you want to in Test cricket, in particular here in England,' he said, as quoted from ESPNcricinfo. 'So, it'll just be about pushing that length and touch fuller and still getting that zip through the keeper,' he added. The Australian quick also underlined the value of having a reliable allrounder in the side, a role shared by Cameron Green, Mitchell Marsh, and, more recently, Beau Webster. While Green won't be available to bowl until later in the year during the Ashes, and head coach Andrew McDonald hinted that Webster's overs might not be required in the final, Hazlewood remains a firm believer in the balance an allrounder brings. 'I think it's huge,' he said, as quoted from ESPNcricinfo. 'I remember back to when we didn't have it was brutal. It was tough work. I feel like you're just continually bowling, like you're almost following the next guy at the other end, and then you're switching ends. Gazza (Nathan Lyon) is from one end, and we all rotate,' he added. 'So to have that bowler, (and) even to be honest, Travis (Head) and Marnus (Labuschagne), it only has to be a couple overs here and there just to give you that extra break to then be fresher, whether it be the second new ball or the next day or later on in the series.
