Speaking to the mediapersons, on Viksit Bharat Sankalp Padyatra, Chouhan said, '...PM Modi has taken the resolution to make India, 'Viksit Bharat'. He thinks it is important to develop cities, villages, farmers and others for Viksit Bharat. We need to develop villages for Viksit Bharat. If government, society, administration, scientists, officials, workers and journalists come together, we will definitely fulfil the dream of Viksit Bharat...'
Earlier on Sunday, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan heaped praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership after India became the world's fourth-largest economy.
Chouhan emphasised the government's ongoing efforts to build a developed India, aiming to climb further in global rankings to eventually become the number one economy.
Speaking to ANI, Chouhan said, 'Under PM Modi's leadership, the 'Maha Yagya' for building a 'Viksit Bharat' continues unabated. Earlier, we were in 11th position, but under PM Modi's leadership, we reduced this gap to achieve 5th position. Now, we are in fourth position. Soon, we will be on the third, and ultimately, we will be number one.'
In a recent development, BJP leader Pradeep Bhandari said India has emerged as a shining beacon amid global economic uncertainty, becoming the world's fourth-largest economy.
Bhandari credited this remarkable rise to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visionary leadership over the past 11 years, strengthening India's economic foundations and propelling the country's rapid growth despite global challenges.
He highlighted this achievement as a crucial milestone towards India's goal of becoming a Vikshit Bharat by 2047. (ANI)

The Cabinet Committee on Security, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has cleared a ₹62,000-deal to buy 97 more light combat aircraft (LCA Mk-1As) from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to boost the capabilities of the Indian Air Force, officials aware of the matter said on Tuesday. The IAF is concerned about the current pace of the LCA Mk-1A programme This is the second order for LCA Mk-1As --- the IAF ordered 83 Mk-1A fighters for ₹48,000 crore in February 2021. To be sure, none of the fighters ordered four years back has been delivered yet. The IAF could get the delivery of the first of the 83 jets already ordered in October, the officials said, asking not to be named. The LCA Mk-1As will replace the IAF's MiG-21 fighter jets. The IAF, the world's fourth largest, is set to retire the last of its iconic MiG-21 fighter jets in September, bringing the curtain down on a 62-year journey. The decommissioning ceremony will be held in Chandigarh. The first LCA Mk-1A built at HAL's new production line in Nashik is set to make its maiden flight shortly. The state-owned plane maker is targeting to deliver the first LCA Mk-1A produced in Bengaluru to the IAF in September after a delay of around 18 months, HT has learnt. The IAF is concerned about the current pace of the LCA Mk-1A programme because of the possible risks a delay in the induction of new fighters could pose to its combat effectiveness. HAL has so far manufactured seven LCA Mk-1As to execute the 83-aircraft order. One of these, equipped with GE's F404-IN20 engine, is expected to be delivered to the IAF next month. GE Aerospace delivered the first of 99 F404-IN20 engines to HAL in March, and said it will speed up further deliveries. The US firm had then explained why the engine supply was delayed and assured HAL that production was being ramped up to execute the Indian order. In 2004, the F404-IN20 engine was selected for the older LCA Mk-1, which has been inducted by the IAF. By 2016, GE Aerospace had delivered 65 F404-IN20 engines for the Mk-1 aircraft. With no additional engine orders, the production line for F404-IN20 in the US was shut down. However, when HAL ordered an additional 99 engines in 2021 for the LCA Mk-1A, the US firm began the complex task of restarting the production line, which had been dormant for five years, and re-engaging the engine's global supply chain. In May, the IAF voiced its frustration over the delays in key projects. The chief of the air staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh then put the spotlight on the armed forces' agonising wait for new weapons and systems, saying he could not recall a single instance of a project being executed on time, in what was seen as a wake-up call for the country's defence production sector. 'Timelines are a big issue,' Singh said. The air force is grappling with a shortage of fighter jets and operates around 30 fighter squadrons compared to an authorised 42.5. Singh has often publicly flagged concerns about a worrying erosion of IAF's capabilities and called for urgent measures to fix it. In February, he questioned the ability of HAL to meet the air force's critical requirements in the backdrop of the lingering delay in the supply of new Mk-1A fighter jets, saying he had 'no confidence' in the plane maker. HAL chief DK Sunil then responded by saying that his company's focus is on delivering the LCA Mk-1A to the IAF at the earliest rather than spending time on countering criticism of the indigenous programme. The LCA is set to emerge as the cornerstone of IAF's combat power as it is expected to operate around 350 LCAs (Mk-1, Mk-1A and Mk-2 variants) in the coming decades.

Jail for land deal? Archaic provision of Delhi Municipal Act allows it
New Delhi When established, the MCD was the overarching body for all decisions and penalties. (HT Archive) Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday, while inaugurating expressway projects in the national capital, referred to an archaic legal provision in the Delhi Municipal Corporation (DMC) Act that allows for a one-month jail term for sanitation workers who fail to report for work. Officials aware of the matter said that this outdated provision in the DMC Act, 1957, falls under Section 298 and is among many archaic laws that will be repealed. Some of the archaic provisions include 'power to expel lepers and disturbers from markets', prohibition on 'stacking or collecting of wood, dry grass, straw or other inflammable materials', and 'care of naked lights', among others. The amendments also seek to decriminalise various minor offences, replacing them with higher penalties and fines. A senior MCD official said that the process to create a model act and update the old provisions has been underway for many years. 'Last year too, we had sought inputs from all departments about the DMC Act provisions as per the directions from the department for promotion of industries and other trade (DPIIT). The process is now finally coming to fruition. When the act was made in 1957, the municipality was the single-most powerful body covering all aspects of the city's life. With formation of Delhi government in 1993 and removal of several departments like water, transport, electricity already, the act has been diluted,' the official said. The Union government, through the Jan Vishwas Bill 2 (2025), is in the process of amending several such enactments for 'decriminalizing and rationalizing offences' and to enhance 'trust-based governance for ease of living and doing business.' The 'fear of imprisonment for minor offences' is a major factor hampering the 'growth of the business ecosystem and individual confidence', the bill states. Under the DMC act, 24 sets of broad amendments covering issues, such as illegal construction of buildings, stacking of inflammable materials, care of naked lights to power to expel 'lepers and disturbers' from markets are proposed to be amended. Several sections of the act are proposed to be completely omitted, while in other cases, decriminalisation of offences, simplification and reforms are being proposed. Similarly, 47 amendments are also in the New Delhi Municipal Council Act,1994. Six DMC Act sections that are proposed to be completely omitted are sections 310, 400, 401, 409, 410 and 414. Sub-sections are proposed to be removed in eight instances. For instance, Section 310 states that the commissioner has the power to 'allow any building to be set forward for the purpose of improving the regular line of a public street or may order reconstruction in this regard', while Section 400 regulates stacking or collecting of wood, dry grass, straw or other inflammable materials, or the placing of mats or thatched huts for the prevention of danger to life or property. 'Many of these provisions are no longer useful or they are dealt with by other laws which were enacted later,' a second MCD official said. Another key thrust is to ensure that minor offences are decriminalised, replaced with a warning or penalty. Under the existing act, offences which can lead to imprisonment include failure to comply with requisition to round off buildings at corners of streets, failure to carry out alterations in buildings as per MCD's directions, and failure to give notice of intention to erect a building, among others. The maximum punishment, of three-year rigorous imprisonment, under the 12th Schedule is under Section 313 for utilising, selling, or laying out a private street without the orders of the Standing Committee. 'If such provisions are actually put in force, a large chunk of the population can be put in jail. These will be converted into stiff penalties and civil cases rather than criminal offences,' the official said. Some unique offences listed in the bill include tethering of animals and milking of cattle in public places, use of inflammable materials without permission, and keeping rubbish for more than 24 hours.

Stalin's congratulatory message came hours after Sudershan Reddy was announced as VP candidate of INDIA bloc, putting to rest speculation that a candidate may be fielded from TN to counter BJP's choice of C P Radhakrishnan from the southern state. "At a time when our institutions are under strain, his candidature strengthens our collective resolve to safeguard democracy and protect the spirit of the Constitution," Stalin added. Stalin alleged that all the independent institutions that were meant to safeguard Indian democracy have been turned into subsidiary bodies of BJP, and the Constitution itself was in danger. "In such a situation, the responsibility before us is to support one who believes in India's fundamental ideals of secularism, federalism, social justice, and unity in diversity," he said. He also alleged that Union govt was "continuously inflicting injustice on TN". Stalin also held a meeting on the VP election, with leaders of DMK's alliance partners including VCK's Thol Thirumavalavan, MDMK's Vaiko, MNM's Kamal Haasan and the left leaders on Tuesday at his residence. Meanwhile, DMK's Parliamentary party leader Kanimozhi Karunanidhi said on Tuesday that the party will not support the NDA candidate C P Radhakrishnan merely because he hails from TN. "We must look beyond it. It is a battle of two opposite ideologies. We are opposing a candidate who comes from the RSS background and supports the divisive politics of BJP. We can't confine this battle to any one state. All the opposition parties have united and took the decision based on consensus before announcing the candidate," Kanimozhi told reporters in New Delhi.
