Rajinikanth fever has once again taken over the country with the release of his highly anticipated action thriller Coolie. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the superstar's 171st film has hit the theatres on Thursday, August 14. From every corner of the world, fans have been flocking to the cinemas since early morning to watch their favourite actor in action once again. And guess what? The Rajinikanth craze in Mumbai has gone to a whole new level.
In a video shared on Instagram, a bunch of fans of the superstar were seen braving Mumbai rains to watch Coolie. A group of women arrived at the theatre, carrying aarti ki thaali or a prayer plate, with umbrellas over their heads as rain poured down heavily. They performed a puja of a huge poster of Rajinikanth right there in the rain. Meanwhile, some men were seen breaking coconuts and offering milk on the poster before heading inside to watch Coolie on the big screen.

Fans Gather Outside Theatre To Celebrate Coolie's Release
Another moment of celebration has also caught attention on social media. The scenes outside a theatre were pure joy as fans gathered in huge numbers early in the morning. As seen in a video posted on Instagram, they were seen dancing in groups, waving a flag and enthusiastically celebrating the release of Coolie, proving once again that the release of a Rajinikanth film is no less than a festival for his fandom.

Coolie has been released in theatres on a very special occasion. The film isn't just the veteran actor's 171st film, but also marks the completion of Rajinikanth's 50 years in the industry. He made his debut with K. Balachander's Tamil drama Apoorva Raagangal, which was released on August 15, 1975.
Coolie's Cast And Plot
Speaking of Coolie, the high-octane action drama has been directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, who is best known for his work in Leo. The new film boasts one of the year's most star-studded casts, which includes Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, and Sathyaraj. Coolie follows the story of a former coolie union leader who stands up to a corrupt syndicate that exploits coolies in a port town. Despite clashing with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's action drama War 2, Coolie had sold tickets worth over Rs 41 crore in India for its opening day by Wednesday evening, as per Sacnilk.
