Dak Prescott Named In Another Ridiculous Trade Scenario

Many wondered about Dak Prescott's future this time a year ago when the Dallas Cowboys had not yet committed an extension to their franchise quarterback. Their intentions were never truly in doubt though the deal did not get done until hours before the regular season kicked off.

Coming off an injury that cut his campaign short, Prescott is set to enter the first year of that massive extension. However, people are still convinced the Cowboys want to trade their franchise quarterback.
Bleacher Report's Alex Kay warned that the Cowboys could be major sellers ahead of the trade deadline this fall if they start to sputter early in the season. Such a scenario would mean the team moving on from Prescott altogether.
"Given how desperate ownership is to make it back to the biggest stage—it's been three decades since Dallas reached the NFC Championship Game, let alone represented the conference on Super Bowl Sunday—and a potential replacement for Prescott waiting in the wings with the recently acquired Joe Milton III, it may not be long before the Cowboys elect to initiate a roster overhaul," Alex Kay wrote.
"If Dallas stumbles out of the gate and is well out of contention by mid-October, expect this once-proud organization to start selling off pieces and load up on assets to retool with in the 2026 off-season under another coaching regime."

For one, it would take an extraordinary failure across the board for the Cowboys to move on entirely from this core and coaching staff after 2025. Writing off Brian Schottenheimer and this group before one game is just plain silly.
More importantly, the Cowboys have no plans to move on from Prescott. Despite the huge contract extension and the moves to strengthen this offense, those outside The Star continue to toss this idea around.
The Cowboys want to break through and get back to the conference championship and eventually a Super Bowl. Many continue to miss the point that Prescott is their investment to achieve those goals, whether it pays off or not.
A trade for Joe Milton does not change that nor should a rough start change that (for now).

Despite the wish-casting for Dallas to abandon an arguable top-10 quarterback, it's not happening. Prescott remains the center of the franchise moving forward and there is no challenge to status with the team.

SEC moving closer to adopting 9-game conference schedule: Source

The SEC is moving closer to adopting a nine-game conference schedule, a source briefed on the discussions said, after the conference's athletic directors met this week in Birmingham, Ala. While the conference's presidents will still need to give final approval, it's the closest the conference has been to moving forward with a nine-game schedule — a decision it has been debating for years. Advertisement The SEC currently plays eight conference games, while the Big Ten and Big 12 play nine (the ACC also plays eight). In the spring, ESPN indicated a willingness to increase its payment to the SEC if the conference were to add a ninth league game, though there was no formal offer at the time. The eight-or-nine debate comes amid the backdrop of another debate about the future format of the College Football Playoff. The SEC and Big Ten differed on preferred 16-game formats this summer, with the Big Ten pushing for a format that would include more automatic bids. Part of the reason for that was the inconsistent number of league games each conference plays. In a nine-game conference schedule, every SEC team would have three annual opponents and six new opponents each season. At SEC media days in July, commissioner Greg Sankey said the three annual opponents would not be permanent. The schedules would operate on a four-year cycle, allowing for 'look-ins' to revisit the three annual rivalries. This story will be updated. Spot the pattern. Who will be USMNT's rising star ahead of World Cup?

Yahoo Sports contributors Christian Polanco and Alexis Guerreros highlight Malik Tillman and Diego Luna as USMNT rising stars to keep an eye on ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Hear the full conversation on the 'The Cooligans' podcast - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript The World Cup is around the corner, obviously, right? Look, it's a little too soon, but maybe we should talk about the next rising star for the men's national team. I mean, look, the first name, especially now, where there's going to be a lot of expectations, and the players are in different situations this year leading into the World Cup, the players are in different situations in their own club careers. So, Malik Tillman is, I think, the one who's probably fighting for a starting spot in this World Cup squad, because I think some would say he maybe has one already, possibly. I think the last couple years, we were thinking about you know, MMA, right? Weston McKenny, Eunice Moussa, and Tyler Adams. That's what a midfield lock that seems like that would be the one leading into the World Cup. So maybe two to three years ago, that's kind of how we felt we had that strong midfield. And now especially with Eunus Moussa, where he is in his club career, and even Weston McKenny, just not being played in multiple positions. I still think he is probably starting to, yeah, but even though there's a little bit of shakiness with those players' individual club careers, I think this is an opportunity for Malik Tillman, who now is the number 10 at Bayer Leverkusen. There is going to be a huge responsibility, especially after, you know, he's going to be playing under Eric Ten Hag after Xabi Alonso leaves, who was nothing but incredibly successful with having the invincible year. I think there's going to be a lot asked of him. I think that in turn will lead to a bigger responsibility with the US men's national team. And for me, I'm going to say Diego Luna, mainly because of how well he played during the Gold Cup. The manager, seemingly Mauricio Pochettino, seemingly trusts that at the very least he's going to give it his all. And whether it's making a run or tracking back a bit more aggressively, you know, someone who we kept saying had that dog in him, you know what I mean? And he was a dog, and he was willing to fight. And he was willing to give it all, and he broke his nose. You know what I mean, he's willing to do whatever it takes. He seems like someone that I think Mauricio Patino trusts. Close

Miami Dolphins Stock Up/Stock Down: Patrick Paul flattens Josh Hines-Allen

MIAMI GARDENS ― The Miami Dolphins wrapped up training camp with a solid joint practice against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday, Aug. 21. The two teams will conclude their preseasons at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday night, Aug. 23. Miami Dolphins training camp stock up/stock down Stock Up LT Patrick Paul ― Patrick continues to excel and to do so against notable pass rushers. On this day, he held his own against the Jaguars' Josh Hines-Allen, even throwing him down to the ground in one 1-on-1 drill. S Minkah Fitzpatrick ― Minkah had yet another training camp interception. He has stood out since returning and fills a big void in the wake of Jevon Holland's departure. The best part? Fitzpatrick isn't just a talented player. He's a player youngsters can model. Stock Down G Jonah Savaiinaea ― We don't mean to pile onto a rookie guard. But he had his hands full at times on Thursday. He will continue to work hard and surely will continue to improve. Just don't expect dominance and consistency immediately. RB Jaylen Wright ― We are hoping Wright's apparent lower-body injury is not too serious. But he did leave the field with trainers. The Dolphins' running back situation is concerning at the moment, with Alexander Mattison already down for the season.
