Iconic Oklahoman Carrie Underwood and talented Texan Cody Johnson are continuing to feel the love for their smash duet 'I'm Gonna Love You."
After reaching the top spot at country radio earlier this month, the ballad earned the country music stars two nods when the nominations for the 60th Academy of Country Music Awards were revealed Thursday morning.
For "I'm Gonna Love You," which the chart-topping pair performed together last fall on the rival Country Music Association Awards, Johnson and Underwood are nominated for Music Event of the Year and Visual Media of the Year at this spring's ACM Awards.
Written by Chris Stevens, Kelly Archer and Travis Denning, "I'm Gonna Love You" has garnered more than 200 million global streams.
One of this year's top ACM Awards nominees, Johnson also earned his second nomination for Entertainer of the Year, and it's his third year in a row to be nominated for Song of the Year, this time with his chart-topper 'Dirt Cheap," which is also nominated for Single of the Year and Visual Media of the Year.
Between "I'm Gonna Love You" and "Dirt Cheap," Johnson is competing against himself in the Visual Media category.
Along with Underwood, a few other Oklahomans nabbed nominations for the the 2025 ACM Awards:
Recently reunited band Rascal Flatts — singer Gary LeVox, multi-instrumentalist Jay DeMarcus and guitarist Joe Don Rooney, who hails from Picher — received their first nomination for Group of the Year since 2017. The multiplatinum-selling trio most recently won Group of the Year in 2009; it was their seventh win in the category.
Country Music Hall of Famers Brooks & Dunn — Louisiana native Kix Brooks and former Tulsan Ronnie Dunn — are nominated for ACM Duo of the Year, a category the pair has won a record-breaking 16 times. The longtime stars snapped up a surprising, history-making 15th win in the Duo of the Year category at last year's CMA Awards.
Tulsa native Ryan Tedder is nominated as one of the producers on Jelly Roll's hit country album "Beautifully Broken." Other producers on the project include BazeXX, Brock Berryhill, Zach Crowell, Devin Dawson, Charlie Handsome, Ben Johnson, mgk, The Monsters & Strangerz, Austin Nivarel, SlimXX, Isaiah Tejada and Alysa Vanderheym.
Among the ACM industry awards, Tulsa's iconic century-old venue Cain's Ballroom is nominated for Club of the Year.
First-time nominee Ella Langley leads the 2025 ACM Awards field with eight nominations, including Female Artist of the Year, New Female Artist of the Year and six nominations for her hit with Riley Green, 'you look like you love me:" Single of the Year, Song of the Year as an artist and songwriter, Music Event of the Year, and Visual Media of the Year as an artist and director.
Tied with Johnson with seven ACM nods are hitmakers Morgan Wallen, who garnered his third consecutive nomination for Entertainer of the Year, and Lainey Wilson, who is also nominated for Entertainer of the Year after winning the ACM's top prize last year.
Chris Stapleton scored six nominations, including his 10th consecutive nod for Male Artist of the Year, a prize he's won four times in the past, including at last year's ACM Awards.
This year's ACM Award will celebrate six decades of country music, and it's billed as featuring "unforgettable performances by the genre's most legendary and multi-award-winning stars."
Oklahoma superstar, six-time ACM Award winner and former ACM Awards host Blake Shelton, who has a rising top 10 single in 'Texas,' is among the first round of performers announced for the 60th ACM Awards.
Also among the the confirmed performers are reigning Entertainer of the Year and 12-time ACM Award recipient Wilson and seven-time ACM Award recipient Eric Church, who will perform on the heels of the debut of his new album "Evangeline Vs. The Machine," due out May 2.
Oklahoma native and 16-time ACM Award-winning entertainment icon Reba McEntire is returning to host the 60th ACM Awards.
The Country Music Hall of Famer, who hails from Chockie, hosted the star-studded show for a record 17th time last year. She capped the 2024 ACM Awards by announcing she would return for the 2025 edition.
The 60th ACM Awards will stream live exclusively on Prime Video at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 8, from Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas. The Amazon stream is expected to reach a global audience across 240-plus countries and territories.

1st woman to skateboard across US raises $50K for spinal cord injury research

Brooke Johnson has made history as the first woman to skateboard across the U.S. The 29-year-old kicked off her journey at the beach in Santa Monica, California, and after 119 days and 3,266 miles, she completed the historic feat in Virginia Beach on Friday. Johnson set out on the grueling adventure to raise money for Wings for Life, a nonprofit spinal cord research foundation, in honor of her late stepfather Roger, who she said broke his C5 vertebrae, became a quadriplegic and died of the spinal cord injury last year. From inclement weather to tough terrain and holes in her shoes, Johnson persevered through every obstacle, raising $50,000 while setting the new world record. Johnson told ABC Norfolk station WVEC that her late stepfather's presence helped motivate her along the way. "He's, like, supported me through this whole thing -- it's actually crazy," she said. Prior to his death, Johnson said the pair's hope was to skate across the finish line with Johnson pushing her stepfather in his wheelchair. "I was like, 'Roger it's a really big country.' And he was like, 'Well, you can do it,'" Johnson said. Johnson was wearing a heart-shaped necklace with Roger's ashes inside when she crossed the Red Bull finish line on Friday. "Roger left me purpose, and for that I thank him every single day," she said. Johnson shared a recap of the journey on her Instagram page Saturday. The video montage was set to an old voicemail left by her stepfather, which she said "was one of those messages that felt like he left it for the present moment." "If there's one thing you take away from this trip, it's that you can truly do anything you put your mind to," she wrote in the caption.

We Finally Know When Guillermo del Toro's ‘Frankenstein' Will Hit Theaters and Netflix

It takes a very special Netflix movie to get a theatrical release before hitting the streamer, and Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein is certainly that. Netflix just announced it'll release the monster movie in select theaters on October 17 before debuting on the platform November 7. Now, there's no word yet on just how 'select' the 'select theaters' will be. Is it two screens? Is it 2,000? If we look back at Rian Johnson's Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, another major film to get a similar treatment, we can make an educated guess, though. That film debuted in about 600 theaters across North America. This could be more, it could be less, but either way, that's still about five times less than a traditional wide release. What that means for you is that the film probably won't only play in major metropolitan areas, but it probably also won't be at every theater in the neighborhood. We'd suggest checking your local theaters in the next month or so as we get closer to the date. To commemorate the news, Netflix also released two teaser posters, one that features Oscar Isaac's iconic Dr. Frankenstein and the other giving us our best look yet at the menacing form of Frankenstein's monster, played by Jacob Elordi. 'Only Monsters Play God' is such a good tagline and obviously speaks to the familiar story of the film. It follows 'a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.' Mia Goth co-stars as Frankenstein's soon-to-be sister-in-law, who draws the eye of both him and his monster. Multiple Oscar winner Christoph Waltz plays an arms dealer. Felix Kammerer plays Frankenstein's brother and Goth's fiancé, and Christian Convery, best known for his work on Sweet Tooth, is young Frankenstein (no, not that one). This is a story that del Toro has been dreaming about adapting his entire life, and with each passing day, we get increasingly excited to see just how good this movie can be. Are we talking Best Picture nominee? Now we know we'll find out very, very soon. Want more io9 news? Country music superstar eager to perform for ‘rabid' fans at Mass. shows

After playing an acoustic tour last year, Lee Brice is looking to turn things up a notch when he plays for 'rabid' fans at several Massachusetts venues later this week. 'The country fans up there are so rabid. I love them. I mean they're crazy and so they always show up and they show up with bells on,' Brice told MassLive in a phone interview from his South Carolina farm home. 'We love playing up there.' The chart-topping, multi-platinum-selling country music sensation said his upcoming shows will be 'full on Lee Brice' as opposed to the intimate setting he created on his 'Me & My Guitar Tour' in 2024. 'This will be 'come out and kick the footlights out,'' Brice, a CMA and ACM award winner, said. The Grammy-nominated artist will play three shows in Bay State. Brice will play at South Shore Music Circus in Cohasset on Friday, Indian Ranch in Webster on Saturday and at Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis on Sunday. When he's not performing, Brice likes to spend some time eating at local seafood restaurants or hanging out by the lake at his friend's house in Lowell. 'We've been coming there for so long. We've been everywhere, man. You know if you want the best wings. He's like, well, 'we're gonna go over here if you want that, you know. But if you want some fish and chips, we're gonna go over here,'' Brice explained. 'So it's good stuff.' The shows will serve as a precursor to Brice's 'What You Know About Tour,' which starts Sept. 11 in Clearwater, Florida. The tour comes on the heels of Brice's latest singles — 'Cry' and 'Said No Country Boy Ever' — that both came out earlier in 2025. 'Said No Country Boy Ever,' a collaboration with The Traler Park, was released July 3 and is Brice's most recent song. Brice said the song came about during a separate writing session for another song. 'In the middle of the write, one of us just said, 'Said no country boy ever.' I said, 'Stop what we're writing now. This is what we're writing right now.' After writing the song, Brice called up his longtime friends who make up The Traler Park. They include Jamey Johnson, Jerrod Niemann, Randy Houser, Rob Hatch and Dallas Davidson. 'They've deemed this as The Traler Park, I guess, after all the years of us kind of raising hell,' Brice joked. 'We've done so much together over the years, but we've never all been on one song. And so I said, 'Boys, come on now. We need to all get on one song. Let's do it.' And so they were all in.' A mid-tempo country-rock track, 'Said No Country Boy Ever' lists everything that southern gentlemen could not live without from their mother's fried chicken to wide open pastures. However, the lyrics are presented ironically, as shown through the main chorus 'Said no country boy ever since we been around / Said no country boy ever since the beer's been iced down / I wish my baby's kisses didn't last so damn long (so damn long) / Said no country boy, country boy ever, yeah.' 'It kind of, really, became a cool thing, that song,' Brice said. 'We just love the song and I was just glad to have my boys on over me.' Brice, who has been making music since he was 10 years old, said writing and producing go 'hand-in-hand' for him — especially with a music career spanning roughly two decades. He joined a songwriting session at his home studio right after his MassLive interview. Brice expected to finish most of the track that same day. 'We'll record a lot of this song today,' the musician said. 'I'm kind of producing as I'm writing, even if it is just us and a guitar. But, it's nice to be in the studio to go ahead and get some of those parts out of your head while you're going.' Brice's songwriting chops have not only earned him more than 10 billion streams, they have also earned him a coveted spot at the Las Vegas Songwriters Festival. The country music superstar will participate in the four-day event at House of Blues Las Vegas inside Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino from Aug. 21-24. 'There's going to be so many songwriters that are a part of a lot of my songs through the years,' Brice explained. 'I'm thinking about just bringing them all up one by one and kind of have them be a part of whenever I play the song and they're playing it with me or singing a verse or whatever. So it's going to be a really interesting, cool, unique show.' Fans can expect to hear Brice perform hits from his catalog at the festival. Tickets starting at $69, can be purchased online. Meanwhile, tickets for the 'What You Know About Tour' are also on sale now.
