CAIRO, July 22 (MENA) -- Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said the Egyptian state pays great attention to its citizens living abroad.
Abdelatty was speaking during a meeting with the Egyptian expat community in Burkina Faso on Tuesday, as part of his visit to Ouagadougou, the second leg of his current West African trip.
Abdelatty reviewed the ministry's efforts to improve consular services by adopting modern digital mechanisms and streamlining procedures for more efficient and fast services.
He also highlighted the ministry's endeavors in coordination with various state bodies to deal with any challenges facing Egyptian expats communities.
The minister also discussed ongoing preparations for the sixth edition of the Egyptians Abroad Conference, which will be held under the slogan "From Everywhere...Egypt is the Destination," on August 3-4 in New Cairo.
Abdelatty also touched on a number of initiatives launched by the government to support Egyptians living abroad and strengthen their connection to their homeland, such as a zero-customs car import initiative, a recruitment settlement initiative, 'Your Home in Egypt' initiative, 'Your Farm in Egypt' initiative, and an instant remittance transfers service via InstaPay mobile application, among many other initiatives to facilitate investment procedures for Egyptian expats and encourage their contribution to major national projects.
Abdelatty embarked on a five-nation tour of West Africa on Monday, leading a high-level business delegation in a push to bolster economic ties and deepen security cooperation across a region facing significant challenges.
The tour, which will also include stops in Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali, and Senegal, kicked off in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, where Abdelatty held a series of meetings with top Nigerian officials and the regional ECOWAS bloc. (MENA)

Egypt, UK deepen economic, development ties ahead of Madbouly's visit to London

Egypt's Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, held talks with UK Minister of State for International Development, Baroness Jenny Chapman, on the sidelines of the G20 Development Ministers' Meeting in South Africa. The meeting focused on advancing bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and global development reform ahead of the upcoming visit by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to the UK. Both officials underscored the strategic significance of the visit, describing it as a pivotal step toward transforming Egyptian-British relations into a deeper partnership. The visit also aligns with Egypt's broader push to strengthen ties with the European Union. Discussions centered on reforming global financial systems to make them more inclusive and accessible for developing countries. The ministers stressed the urgency of implementing international recommendations for greater transparency in financing and called for reforms to the UN's development frameworks to ensure stronger national ownership and coordination. Al-Mashat highlighted Egypt's expanding collaboration with the UK in key areas such as food security, entrepreneurship, and SME development. She noted that the UK remains one of Egypt's top foreign investors, with significant engagement in energy, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, and consumer goods. The meeting also reviewed the role of key British financial institutions—including the World Bank, UK Export Finance (UKEF), and British International Investment (BII)—in supporting Egypt's development priorities. BII, which considers Egypt a key market, is actively investing in areas like renewable energy and infrastructure. The ministers acknowledged the contribution of the British-Egyptian Business Association (BEBA) and the Egyptian-British Chamber of Commerce (EBCC) in fostering stronger commercial links. Al-Mashat outlined the forthcoming launch of Egypt's 'National Narrative for Economic Development,' a strategic initiative aimed at accelerating structural reforms, boosting industrial output, and attracting foreign direct investment. She emphasized that economic measures introduced since March 2024 have stabilized the macroeconomic environment and improved investor confidence. Climate cooperation was also a major theme, with discussions on Egypt's NWFE (Nexus of Water, Food, and Energy) platform and BII's role in financing green hydrogen and clean energy projects. The UK's support for global climate funds—including the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF)—was noted, along with the joint 'Green Growth: Egypt–UK' initiative, which continues through COP30. Baroness Chapman reaffirmed the UK's commitment to its partnership with Egypt, praising Cairo's historical and humanitarian leadership—particularly its role in supporting Gaza. She also reiterated the UK's call for a sustainable ceasefire to ensure unimpeded humanitarian aid. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepening economic and development cooperation and advocating for global financial reforms that empower developing countries.

OPEN// Egyptian, Qatari FMs discuss efforts to secure Gaza ceasefire deal

CAIRO, July 27 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty discussed in a phone call with his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the latest developments in the Gaza Strip, especially in light the efforts made by Egypt and Qatar to strike a ceasefire deal in the Palestinian enclave. The two top diplomats highlighted flagrant crimes and violations committed by Israel against Palestinians, amid the unprecedented humanitarian situation in Gaza, said spokesman for the foreign ministry Tamim Khallaf. Abdelatty and Sheikh Mohammed stressed their full commitment to continuing negotiations between Israel and Hamas to reach a comprehensive ceasefire agreement as soon as possible, which contributes to allowing the access of humanitarian and relief aid into the Palestinian territory and putting an end to the repeated crimes committed by Israel. The pair also addressed the latest updates regarding Egypt's hosting of an international conference on early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, which aims to implement the Arab-Islamic plan for the reconstruction of the Palestinian enclave. They underlined the importance of sustaining joint coordination between the two countries and mobilizing international backing for establishing a Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
