UNC basketball program offers five-star recruit

Yahoo18-02-2025

Despite the struggles the North Carolina Tar Heels are having this season, they are getting set to welcome in a top 10 recruiting class for 2025 headlined by Caleb Wilson. That class as well as the 2026 classes will be the key to future success for the program, so it's important they find a way to land talented prospects.
And on Monday, they officially entered the race for a five-star recruit in the 2026 cycle.
Power forward Toni Bryant officially landed an offer from Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels on Monday night, picking up his 20th offer in his recruitment. The 6-foot-9, 200-pound Bryant is drawing a lot of interest from some big programs including UNC, Kansas and Duke, as well as others.
With the UNC offer, the Tar Heels are now officially in pursuit of the Florida native, hoping to add him to their 2026 class which currently has no commitments.

Bryant hails out of Zephyrhills, Florida and is ranked No. 10 nationally, the No. 3 power forward and the No. 1 player in the state of Florida per the 247Sports rankings.
In addition to picking up a UNC offer, Bryant will also visit Kansas on Saturday for an unofficial visit per Travis Branham of 247Sports. With UNC involved, it would be shocking not to see him on UNC's campus at some point in his recruitment.
So far, UNC has offered nine players in the 2026 recruiting class.

Insider rejects Steelers' T.J. Watt $40 million deal: 'I hadn't heard that number'

The latest T.J. Watt contract update has been dismissed by insider Ian Rapoport. On Friday's episode of The Pat McAfee Show, Rapoport was asked to speak to the legitimacy of insider James Palmer's report that Watt was expected to earn more than Myles Garrett's $40 million per year — and this was his response: "I have not heard that," Rapoport said. "If he gets more than Myles, I would say that is awesome for T.J. These are the guys you pay. He's great. He's a good guy, he is a face of that franchise, and like, these are the kinds of guys who should be paid all the money and should retire as a member of the Steelers. ... I still think it's going to work out, but I hadn't heard that number and I hadn't heard that anything is imminent." Garrett can breathe a sigh of relief, as Rapoport's comments somewhat instill confidence that the Browns superstar will remain the highest-paid defender. It's worth noting that these updates are entirely speculative until Watt puts pen to paper — and hopefully that happens sooner than later, so both parties can put this situation to bed. Steelers countdown to kickoff — No. 72: a history of the number and who wore it best

The Steelers countdown to kickoff is here — and we're at 72 days until Pittsburgh faces off against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. In the spirit of the countdown, we're taking a look at the history of No. 72 and the players who wore it best. Current Steelers No. 72 wearers: OG Doug Nester, DL Esezi Otomewo Both Nester and Otomewo currently wear No. 72 for the Pittsburgh Steelers — a situation that's pretty common during the offseason. After spending the 2024 season on the Steelers' practice squad, Nester signed a Reserve/Future contract with Pittsburgh this past January. He'll likely be given the opportunity to compete with Max Scharping and Spencer Anderson for the backup guard spot. Otomewo signed a one-year deal with the Steelers last March. He has nine games of NFL experience, including two starts during his 2024 tenure with the Jaguars. He offers solid depth as both a capable pass rusher and run defender — but faces an uphill battle after Pittsburgh acquired multiple defensive linemen in the 2025 NFL Draft and free agency. Last five Steelers to wear No. 72: Best No. 72 in Steelers history: OG Gerry 'Moon' Mullins Mullins was selected by the Steelers with the 86th overall pick in the fourth round of the 1971 NFL Draft. He played for Pittsburgh from 1971 to 1979 — winning four Super Bowls in the process. He played an important role in the Steelers' Super Bowl X victory over the Cowboys, recovering Dallas' onside kick attempt with 1:48 remaining. Mullins was selected to the Steelers' 50th Anniversary Team and was inducted into the Steelers Hall of Honor. He served as one of the most dependable offensive linemen of his era and is, without a doubt, the best to ever don the No. 72 in Pittsburgh. Notre Dame commit Caden Crowell named Indiana Player of the Year

Notre Dame commit Caden Crowell, the No. 2 ranked player in Indiana's Class of 2025, was named Indiana Player of the Year following a spectacular 2025 season. The left-hander was magical on the mound, allowing just two earned runs over 55 innings while recording 97 strikeouts. He walked just 11 batters. Crowell recorded a perfect 6-0 mark with an obscene 0.53 WHIP. He did not allow a single extra-base-hit or any stolen bases the entire spring, holding opponents to a .098 batting average. Ridiculous numbers. The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder, who also plays first base, hit .375 with 14 extra-base hits, including three HRs, three triples and eight doubles. He also had four steals and drove in 24. Crowell, who is one of the top 50 prospects in the country, helped Valparaiso win its first-ever Class 4A state championship. The question now is whether Crowell will make it to South Bend and pitch for the Fighting Irish. It will all depend on how things shake out in the Major League Baseball Draft in July.
