Government plans 20-km elevated road over Munak Canal at estimated cost of Rs 3,000 crore
The corridor will benefit 18 assembly constituencies, two parliamentary constituencies, and 35 municipal wards. The project is estimated to cost around Rs 3,000 crore and is expected to take three years from the date of commencement.
The Munak Canal, a 102-kilometre aqueduct that runs from Haryana to Delhi, is a key water supply channel. Originally built to reduce water loss in the Western Yamuna Canal, it now serves as the foundation for a crucial elevated road aimed at decongesting traffic and improving connectivity.
The project was discussed in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and PWD Minister Parvesh Verma on Thursday, attended by senior PWD officials.
'This elevated corridor will benefit 18 assembly constituencies, two parliamentary constituencies, and 35 municipal wards. It will significantly improve transportation for a large population,' Verma said.
While the project will be executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Delhi Public Works Department will handle funding, land clearances, and local coordination. A detailed project report (DPR) is being prepared and is likely to be completed within three months. A no-objection certificate has also been sought from the Haryana government, as the canal partially lies in Haryana.
The elevated road will connect with Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), strengthening Delhi's outer ring road network and easing access to northern and western regions.
Meanwhile, the Delhi government is working on transforming the Najafgarh drain into a 30 MW canal-top solar corridor and has submitted a Rs 950-crore plan to reconstruct 415 kilometres of city roads under the Central Road Fund (CRF), including stretches like Outer Ring Road, Mathura Road, Najafgarh Road, and Vikas Marg. NHAI is also planning an eastern extension of UER-II to route traffic through northeast Delhi into Ghaziabad and Noida.

MP CM Mohan Yadav flags off 1200 FRVs for new Dial 112 emergency services
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], August 14 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav flagged off 1200 First Response Vehicles (FRVs) for newly integrated emergency response service Dial-112 for the districts from Bhopal on Thursday, stated an official Yadav launched the vehicles from the program organised at Kushabhau Thakre Auditorium in the state capital. The state government has allocated over Rs 1,500 crore for these vehicles, reaffirming that citizens' safety remains its top priority. Addressing the occasion, the CM says that the police play a vital role in maintaining social order and extended congratulations to Madhya Pradesh Police on the launch of Dial 112, calling it a new initiative to enhance police responsiveness. 'This emergency number will become a cornerstone of a society's safety & security ecosystem, serving as both a promise of swift police response and a commitment to assistance for the people of the state," he said. The new Dial 112 will replace the old Dial 100 services which have already been adopted by other states, including Uttar Pradesh. Through its vigilance and efficiency, Dial 100 has ensured the safety of 2.23 lakh elderly citizens, more than 19 lakh women, 1,300 newborns and reunited 23,000 missing children with their families — a significant achievement for the MP Police, the release added. The Chief Minister further says that efforts are underway to strengthen surveillance by integrating cameras installed at public places with other monitoring systems. The government is also attentive to the needs of police personnel working in difficult conditions. Cultural and historical gateways are being developed on main roads of towns and cities, reflecting local heritage while also aiding security and making all-weather duty easier for personnel. Technology has brought major changes to policing in the state, including the introduction of e-summons via video calls and the internet — a process in which Madhya Pradesh is a national leader, with other states following its Director General of Police (DGP) Kailash Makwana called the launch of Dial 112 a historic occasion. He recalled that on MP Foundation Day 2015, the Dial 100 service was introduced in the state, which has since assisted lakhs of citizens through 1,000 vehicles. Under CM Yadav's direction, 200 more vehicles have been added, bringing the total to 1,200 FRVs, all equipped with state-of-the-art Dial-112 service will bring together multiple emergency numbers under a single helpline. The integrated number will cover police (100), health/ambulance (108), fire services (101), women's helpline (1090), cybercrime (1930), railway assistance (139), highway accident response (1099), disaster management (1079), and women and child helplines (181, 1098). Himachal CM launches sapling drive with a target to cover 9,000 hectares in forests
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu on Thursday inaugurated the 76th state-level Van-Mahotsav in the Kanlog area of Shimla by planting a deodar sapling. The plantation drive has a budgetary provision of Rs 100 crore with a target to cover 9,000 hectares in forests. The Chief Minister also launched the Rajiv Gandhi Van Samvardhan Yojna across all Assembly constituencies and virtually interacted with ministers and legislators and discussed forest conservation and afforestation measures in detail. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said Van Mahotsav highlighted the importance of forests, often called the Earth's lifeline. 'This year, around 9,000 hectares of forests would be planted with saplings that comprised fruit-bearing ones.' He said the government has been working to protect and enrich rich biodiversity. These efforts would contribute to achieve the target of increasing 30 per cent forest cover by 2030. The Chief Minister said the Rajiv Gandhi Van Samvardhan Yojna would not only promote forest development but also enhance public participation and strengthen the rural economy. Under this scheme, mahila mandals, yuvak mandals, self-help groups and joint forest committees would plant and look after saplings on one to five hectares of designated forest land for five years. This year, saplings are being planted across 1,000 to 1,500 hectares at a cost of Rs 20 crore. An additional Rs 1.2 lakh per hectare is being provided for sapling maintenance, said the Chief Minister. He said the government is also focusing on financial discipline for 'vyavastha parivartan' and introducing reforms in the working of the Forest Department. The officers were being encouraged to dedicate more time to fieldwork related to forest expansion and conservation rather than office routines. The Chief Minister said the government is implementing schemes that provide rural communities with self-employment opportunities near their homes, thereby strengthening their livelihoods. He said the initiatives of the government in natural farming are also being recognized and appreciated nationally. He gave cheques for Rs 1,00,000 each to mahila mandals for sapling plantation under the Rajiv Gandhi Van Samvardhan Yojna. Also cheques for Rs 50,000 each have also been distributed under JICA project to the beneficiaries for livelihood.
