India is committed to BRICS Modi
BRICS is a crucial platform for fostering cooperation and collaboration in the Global South and is exploring ways to promote the interests of emerging economies, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modisaidon Wednesday.
Modi's comments come ahead of the BRICS Summit, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro on July 6-7. "As a founding member, India is committed to BRICS as a vital platform for cooperation among emerging economies," Modi said. "Together, we strive for a more peaceful, equitable, just, democratic and balanced multipolar world order."
BRICS was initially established, primarily as an economic group, in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China, with South Africa joining in 2010. In 2024, the bloc extended full membership to Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates. Indonesia became a full member in 2025. Over 30 nations have applied to join the influential organization. Modi left Delhi on Wednesday for a five-nation visit to Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia.
"I am confident that my visits to the five countries will reinforce our bonds [and] friendship across the Global South, strengthen our partnerships on both sides of the Atlantic, and deepen engagements in the multilateral platforms such as BRICS, the African Union, ECOWAS and the CARICOM," Modi said.
In June, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar told news agency AFP that "strong sentiments" in the Global South regarding the perceived unfairness of the present international order have fueled adesire for change.
In addition to being a founding member of BRICS, New Delhi is also continuing to engage Western countries in what has been called a policy of "strategic autonomy." The South Asian nation is a member of the Quad, a diplomatic group that includes Australia, Japan, and the United States, along with India. Jaishankar is presently in Washington for a meeting of its foreign ministers.

China, EU should not ‘seek confrontation': FM Wang
BRUSSELS: China's top diplomat warned his EU counterpart against 'confrontation', his foreign ministry said Thursday, after she urged Beijing to stop undermining Europe's security. Meeting Kaja Kallas in Brussels on Wednesday, Wang Yi said China and the European Union 'should not be regarded as opponents because of differences, nor should they seek confrontation because of disagreements', according to a Chinese foreign ministry statement. Europe is 'facing various challenges', Wang said, but stressed that none were caused by China 'in the past, present or future'. Ahead of their meeting, Kallas, the EU's foreign affairs chief, said China was 'not our adversary, but on security our relationship is under increasing strain'. She said Chinese firms were 'Moscow's lifeline to sustain its war against Ukraine' and accused Beijing of carrying out cyberattacks, democratic interference and unfair trade practices that 'harm European security and jobs'. China has portrayed itself as a neutral party in Russia's more than three-year war with Ukraine. But Western governments say Beijing has given Moscow crucial economic and diplomatic support. 'Enabling war in Europe while seeking closer ties with Europe is a contradiction Beijing must address,' Kallas added on Wednesday. Wang, meanwhile, sought to cast Beijing as a steady counterweight against superpower rival Washington, which has threatened to slap sweeping tariffs on imports from European nations. 'The path taken by the United States should not be used as a reflection of China,' he said. 'China is not the United States.' Beijing's foreign ministry also said the two sides had discussed Ukraine, the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, and the Iran nuclear issue. Beijing and Brussels should treat one another with 'respect', Wang said, adding that Europe should pursue a more 'active and pragmatic' China policy. The Chinese diplomat also met European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen and his Belgian counterpart Maxime Prevot on Wednesday. China and the EU should 'uphold multilateralism and free trade... and work together to address global challenges such as climate change', Wang told von der Leyen. Wang will next travel to Germany, where he will hold talks with Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul on diplomacy and security. And in France, Wang will meet minister for Europe and foreign affairs Jean-Noel Barrot, who visited China in March. The visits come about three weeks ahead of a summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and the EU's top officials in Beijing.

The community is like a headless chicken. Until Indian Malaysians organise themselves into a single voice and a cohesive society, policy designers will not be inclusive and will sideline them until the kingdom comes. Indian Malaysians should organise themselves before finding fault with the ruling government. Many pundits can list all the problems faced by Indians, but no one gives strategies for elevating the standard of living. No satisfactory solutions in sight. Falcon: Call it whatever you like, be it the Madani plan, the 13th Malaysia Plan or another plan. The fact remains that nothing is going to change for Indian Malaysians from cradle to grave! Be they life's challenges, systemic prejudices, racism or a place at the bottom of the social and economic barrel and food chain? More so, when those claiming to represent Indian Malaysians only enrich themselves every which way! What awaits is natural death, illness or, to some, death in a hail of bullets from assassins? The Tamil community here do not want to assimilate with the other Indian communities such as the Telugus, Sindhis, Bengalis and Malayalis. They even chant slogans to that effect. Even in India, the different communities assimilate and consider themselves Indian first and only then their different communities. In Malaysia, this division is even reflected in the political parties, which only want to propel Tamils (even then, based on caste). If you cannot speak Tamil, you do not have a chance in political parties. So the other Indian communities shy away from politics. Even then, if you see the majority of poor Indians, they are from the Tamil community. This shows how the political parties have failed their community, whilst the other Indian communities have focused on business and education and established themselves. Get rid of this ego, get rid of identifying yourselves based on your community and then see how it will propel the Indian community. A good example is the Chinese. Even though there are Hokkiens, Hakka and so on. When it comes to business, education and politics, they identify themselves as Chinese. RR: Each community leader must take care of their own community. The Chinese are a good example. Nonetheless, in a multiracial, multireligious nation, there must be a sincere commitment and political will of the government of the day to assimilate all races as Malaysians by giving equal and equitable opportunities to all and ensuring that no section of the people is left behind. The Indian community have the highest number of political parties in Malaysia, and every one of these so-called leaders is fighting not to uplift the community but for their power and positions.
