BBC Strictly Come Dancing's George Clarke lets slip 'huge spoiler' on podcast
Strictly Come Dancing's George Clarke may have accidentally let slip who he is paired with before the BBC's official announcement. The YouTuber was unveiled as the sixth celebrity in the official line up for Strictly 2025 as the show enters its 23rd season.
The social media star is well known online for his comedy content. He also co-hosts The Useless Hotline podcast which is where he may have accidentally spilled the beans. In a chat on his podcast with co-host Max Balegde, the 25-year-old revealed there's one professional dancer he's already met.
As he recounted the audition process, George told listeners that he was partnered with a pro and rehearsed with her for an hour. He said: "I've not met anyone apart from, I believe her name's Lauren [Oakley], who was the pro that I met.
"Because when we had a interview for it, so it's like an hour long interview, and then like an hour long dance session."
Lauren has been a professional dancer on the BBC One flagship show since 2022.
She has competed with two celebrities, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, who placed eighth, and JB Gill last year, after taking over from fellow pro Amy Dowden during the season, who withdrew due to injury.
George explained that he had performed with Lauren in front of 'two lovely women from the production team that were just sat at what basically looked like a judge's desk'.
He said he had to learn a jive with Lauren during the audition, as well as a 'little Latin number he couldn't remember the name of'.
However, he did say that he did not know whether this would factor in his official pairing, since that reveal is yet to be announced in the coming days.
The Youtube star confirmed his Strictly debut on BBC Radio 1's Going Home Drivetime Show on August 12.
Speaking of the news, he said: "Never thought I'd say this, but I'm doing Strictly! Honestly, I've got no idea what I'm doing but I'm excited to get stuck in and potentially fall over a fair bit."
When he was revealed as the sixth star, George joked: "I feel like a lot of people will still be saying, who?"
He added: "I was meant to be doing a marathon at the end of the month. Can't really do that, because I'm dancing. So I've had to be like, 'Oh God, I'm still training. I promise.''
Strictly 2025 will come as the BBC programmes' 23rd series with the show set to return in September.
The show's return comes after Strictly has just faced a fresh scandal after claims of cocaine use by two stars with reports suggesting their substance use was an open secret on the show.
It follows a turbulent few years of controversial allegations including backstage bullying, misconduct claims and several stars being axed or suspended by the BBC as a result of their behaviour.

BBC shares major update on Doctor Who future amid hiatus
Doctor Who will return with or without the extra funding from Disney, the BBC has now confirmed whilst the series is on hiatus following the departure of Ncuti Gatwa Doctor Who will return with or without the extra funding from Disney, BBC bosses confirmed yesterday. The sci-fi show is currently on a hiatus following the end of the two-year deal with Disney, which culminated with the departure of Ncuti Gatwa in the title role. Crushing rumours that the show would not return if Disney's huge cash injection did not return, the BBC's new head of content Kate Phillips said: "Rest assured Doctor Who is going nowhere. Disney has been a great partnership and it continues with The War Between The Land And The Sea next year." Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival Kate, who is just two months into her job, stressed: 'With or without Disney, Doctor Who will still be on the BBC." The uncertainty around the series has been caused by Disney's continuing reluctance to commit to either renewing its funding deal with the BBC - or pull out. But show creator Russell T Davies has indicated he's already working on scripts for the next series, and also for another one after that. Later in the session, the BBC's drama controller Lindsay Salt said she had 'no update' in terms of timings " on Doctor Who but said that information would be made public as soon as it was possible. Agreeing with Kate, she said the BBC commitment to Doctor Who as one of its biggest brands was water-tight, adding that the show was "hugely important to us"." Now Doctor Who fans have the spin-off show, The War Between the Land and the Sea, which expected to start around Christmas. Disney reportedly injected around £100million into Doctor Who, which gave a a significant boost to the show's production budget, allowing for CGI use of dinosaurs and other stunts. There is still a chance that the deal will be renewed, or that BBC Studios will find another partner to join forces with. In the session about the BBC, Kate also said the corporation 'acted fast' after misconduct allegations against former MasterChef presenter Gregg Wallace. And she urged anyone who felt they had grievances to air against top talent to come forward, stressing that they would be taken seriously. 'No one is irreplaceable,' she said. On MasterChef, she said she'd acted on the information she'd had in 2019. 'So there were two complaints. I dealt with them. I acted on them fast. I think I acted responsibly. I left him in no doubt of the expected behaviour that we expect at the BBC, if you like. I stand by the actions I took at the time with the knowledge that I had. Other allegations didn't come to us until much later, sort of at the end of 2023, and at that point we did act, and we acted fast.' Wallace was dropped from the series after multiple claims of inappropriate language and behaviour against him were upheld. Later his co-host John Torode was also dismissed after a complaint over his 'racist language' was upheld.

BBC Destination X fans 'work out' show winner after 'horrible' elimination
Destination X viewers were left gutted as another contestant was eliminated from the BBC series, leaving only four remaining in the competition Destination X had TV viewers gripping their seats once more on Thursday (21 August), as another contestant was booted off the BBC show. Claire became the latest hopeful to get the chop, having failed to correctly identify the location as Pisa, Italy. She just missed out on securing her place in the semi-final, leaving Daren, Judith, Josh and Saskia as the remaining contestants. "I was well wrong, no wonder I'm here! This game is so hard. Thinking back to the clues, I still can't see anything that would match anything to do with this," Claire said after she stepped off the bus to see the Tower of Pisa before her. Looking back on her Destination X adventure, she added: "But, what an experience. What a brilliant experience! I've learnt a lot about myself, met some fabulous people, who will be friends forever. It's an experience I'm always going to draw upon. I was convinced I was going to win!" Viewers at home were left devastated by Claire's departure and with the finale approaching, many started speculating who will be crowned champion of the BBC series, reports the Manchester Evening News. "NOOOOO this elimination is so horrible I've had ENOUGH," one fan moaned on X, with a second saying: "That's a shame, I liked Claire. Darren must win now. "#DestinationX has been class. Edge of the seat stuff. Come on Daren," a third wrote. Another added: "Is Daren actually gonna win this on a wing and a prayer???" Scores of fans seemed to concur that Daren could be the deserving champion, with one viewer exclaiming: "daren for the win!!!!! #DestinationX," and another chiming in: "Judith or Daren to win, otherwise we're rioting. #DestinationX." Daren confessed that he'd managed to cling on in the competition by sheer luck, having made a random guess about the location after being left baffled by the clues. "I'm feeling very lucky to survive the elimination. Come on, you cabbies!" he declared, following his co-star Claire's departure. He went on to explain to Josh, Saskia and Judith how he'd been given a clue and shared it with Claire, leaving both Josh and Saskia let down. Josh confessed his alliance with Daren was now finished, after he chose Claire over him.
