Dulquer Salmaan on why his father Mammootty pulls him up

Dulquer Salmaan discusses the humorous contrast between his work style and his father Mammootty's, where his father playfully chides him for taking on lengthy projects. He also shares how his wife, Amal Sufiya, remains unfazed by his celebrity, viewing him simply as her husband with an ordinary job. This keeps him grounded despite his stardom. Dulquer Salmaan may be one of the most admired names in Indian cinema today, straddling Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi industries with ease. From romantic dramas like OK Kanmani and Sita Ramam to edgy thrillers like Kurup and Lucky Bhaskar, the actor has consistently proved his versatility. And while his professional life might be brimming with big-ticket projects, it turns out his biggest critics — and his most grounded relationships — are at home. In a interview he gave in 2023, Dulquer opened up about how his legendary father, actor Mammootty , still struggles to understand his son's work choices and pace. 'Dad is funny,' Dulquer laughed, adding, 'He still does about five films a year, back to back. And here I am, doing these long, drawn-out projects that take anywhere between eight to ten months. He just can't wrap his head around why a film should take this long.' In fact, Mammootty's reactions are so typically fatherly that they're almost comedic. 'He's told me, 'If you're going to do one film a year, don't bother coming home,'' Dulquer shared with a grin. The friendly father-son banter, however, comes from a place of love and mutual respect, even if their approaches to work differ vastly. While Mammootty continues to be one of the busiest actors in Malayalam cinema. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 Top Trending Local Enterprise Accounting Software [Click Here] Accounting ERP Click Here Undo . Interestingly, it's not just his father who keeps Dulquer grounded. His wife, Amal Sufiya, seems largely unimpressed by the trappings of stardom too. Dulquer revealed that even today, Amal hasn't fully processed the fact that she's married to a movie star. 'For her, I'm just a guy who goes to work and comes back,' Dulquer said with a smile. 'In fact, in the first two-three years of our marriage, if someone came up and asked me for a picture, she'd turn to me and ask, 'Why do they want a picture with you?' and I'd have to remind her that I'm an actor. ' The actor finds this disconnection rather endearing. 'She's so detached sometimes. For her, she knows what I'm like at home — unfiltered, lazy, and unglamorous. People only see the groomed version of me.'

Dhanush's Kuberaa Underperforms In Tamil Nadu, Director Sekhar Kammula Reacts

Last Updated: Kuberaa, directed by Sekhar Kammula, excels at the Telugu box office but underperforms in Tamil Nadu despite Dhanush's lead role. While Kuberaa has been making waves at the Telugu box office, the film's performance in Tamil Nadu hasn't matched expectations even with Dhanush in the lead. Director Sekhar Kammula, who helmed this ambitious bilingual project, has now weighed in on the mixed regional response. 'In Telugu it has been exceptional. Even the overseas Tamil circuit is going well. But the domestic Tamil market, I was expecting lot more, and I hope it would catch up, because the word of mouth is strong but it is not converting into box office," Kammula told OTTplay. Shot simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu, Kuberaa was crafted with a pan-India vision. Yet, the buzz in Tamil Nadu hasn't translated into ticket sales. Kammula remains optimistic, especially given the appreciation for Dhanush's performance as a beggar, a role that, he believes, few actors would dare to take up. 'I was in awe of him and thought it was a moment of pride. So, I thought it would catch on in Tamil and really hope that it happens. It is not common that this kind of stories come up often and people take up such roles. I thought it is a special thing and I have a hope," he added. Kuberaa is a 2025 Indian crime drama directed by Sekhar Kammula, who also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Chaithanya Pingali. Backed by Sree Venkateswara Cinemas LLP and Amigos Creations, the film was shot simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil. The ensemble cast features Dhanush in the lead, alongside Nagarjuna, Rashmika Mandanna, Jim Sarbh, and Dalip Tahil. The project was officially announced in June 2021, with principal photography taking place between February and April 2024. The title Kuberaa was revealed in March 2024. The film's technical crew includes Devi Sri Prasad as the music composer, Niketh Bommireddy handling cinematography, editing by Karthika Srinivas, and production design by the acclaimed Thota Tharani. Kuberaa hit theatres worldwide on June 20, 2025. The plot follows four individuals, including a beggar, who are handpicked to serve as benamis in a high-stakes corporate scam. Dhanush plays the role of Deva Kallam. First Published:
