Udaipur Files Director Announces Film's New Release Date After Supreme Court Ruling, Says "Truth Always Wins"
The film, based on tailor Kanhaiya Lal's murder in Udaipur, Rajasthan, in 2022, has been in the news due to controversy. The director previously told NDTV that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has made 150 cuts to the film.
Due to censor and legal troubles, Udaipur Files missed its July 11, 2025 release date. The film, starring Vijay Raaz in the role of Kanhaiya Lal and produced by Amit Jani, is expected to be released on August 8, 2025.
Udaipur Files director Bharat Shrinate told NDTV, "We respect the Supreme Court's order and are ready to release the film on August 8. Jani Firefox Films is going to start promotions and release Udaipur Files worldwide on August 8. Truth always wins."
According to a PTI report, a Supreme Court bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi on Friday said the filmmakers appeal against the Delhi High Court order staying the release was infructuous as they accepted the July 21 order of the Centre clearing the release of the film subject to six cuts in its scenes and modifications in the disclaimer.
The bench said it has not expressed any opinion on merit and the high court can adjudicate the issue of stay of release of film.
Recently, a petition was before the Delhi High Court seeking to stay the release of the film, claiming that the movie has potential to inflame communal tensions and disrupt public order in the country.
Kanhaiya Lal was hacked to death at his tailoring shop in the busy Hathipole area of Udaipur in June 2022 by two cleaver-wielding men for allegedly supporting a social media post against Islam, an incident that sent shockwaves across the country.

Supreme Court stays trial in two cases involving Azam Khan's son Abdullah
The Supreme Court on Tuesday (July 29, 2025) stayed an order of the Allahabad High Court directing Rampur's MP-MLA Court to proceed with the trial in two cases linked to former MLA and senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan's son Mohammad Abdullah Azam Khan. A Bench of Justices M.M. Sundresh and N. Kotiswar Singh also issued notice to the Uttar Pradesh Government on an appeal filed by Mr. Abdullah. On July 23, the High Court dismissed two petitions filed by Mr. Abdullah challenging the proceedings of criminal cases against him. The first case is related to Mr. Abdullah's alleged fake passport and the second case to his obtaining two PAN cards. 'Considering the facts and circumstances of the case, in my considered view, the instant application is devoid of merits and is liable to be dismissed,' the High Court said. Mr. Abdullah filed separate petitions in the High Court concerning the two cases requesting it to set aside the entire criminal proceedings of the ongoing trials in Rampur's MP/MLA Court. BJP MLA Akash Saxena had filed a case against Mr. Abdullah in Rampur on July 30, 2019, alleging fraud and violation of the Passport Act for allegedly obtaining the travel document using an incorrect date of birth. According to the complaint, Mr. Abdullah was issued a passport on January 10, 2018. The passport lists the date of birth as September 30, 1990 but his educational certificates say January 1, 1993. Mr. Saxena also filed an FIR against Mr. Abdullah and father Azam Khan at the Civil Lines police station in Rampur on December 6, 2019. Mr. Saxena alleged that Mr. Abdullah had furnished an incorrect PAN number in his election affidavit during the 2017 Assembly elections. Mr. Saxena also accused Mr. Azam Khan of being a fraudster and a liar, claiming that the senior SP leader got two PAN cards made for his son through fraud to enable him to contest elections. According to him, Mr. Abdullah allegedly concealed this fact in the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission of India (ECI). He showed one PAN number in the affidavit, but used another number in his income tax return documents.

Speaking to the media after filing the complaint, Ramya said, "I shared news about the Supreme Court's development regarding actor Darshan's bail petition to give hope to common people about justice. After that, the trolling began. I have filed this complaint as a voice for women." "I have lodged a complaint against 43 social media accounts. Some of them even threatened me with rape. A New York Police Department (NYPD) officer of Bangladeshi origin was hailed as a hero after being killed during a mass shooting inside a Manhattan skyscraper on Monday. 27-year-old gunman, Shane Tamura, fatally shot four people — including Officer Didarul Islam, 36 — before turning the weapon on himself, according to officials. The tragic incident unfolded inside Midtown Manhattan office tower, where Didarul Islam was working on a paid uniformed security detail when the shooter opened fire. Such assignments allow private companies to hire NYPD officers for added security presence. According to news agency Reuters, Islam was a Bangladeshi immigrant, working in the New York police department for the last three and a half years. Islam is survived by his two sons and wife, who is currently pregnant with a third child. The New York City police too released a statement saying that Islam represented 'the very best' of their department. 'He was protecting New Yorkers from danger when his life was tragically cut short today. We join in prayer during this time of incomprehensible pain. We will forever honour his legacy,' the statement read. Speaking at a press conference on Monday night, New York City Mayor Eric Adams described Officer Islam as a "hero" and a "person of faith" who "loved this city." Islam had served with the NYPD for three and a half years. "We lost four souls to another senseless act of gun violence, including a member of the NYPD," said Adams. "He was saving lives and protecting New Yorkers." Adams said he met Islam's grieving family, which includes his pregnant wife and two young sons, and told them their loved one's bravery will not be forgotten. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch called Islam's death a result of the "ultimate sacrifice," noting he was "shot in cold blood" while serving New York residents. She confirmed that Islam's wife is expecting their third child. 'He put himself in harm's way. He was doing his duty — protecting others — and paid with his life,' she said. Excluding Didarul Islam, 42 law enforcement officers across federal, state, and local agencies in the United States have died in the line of duty so far in 2025, according to preliminary figures released by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
