‘He has gone while trying to get a better life for us': Married five months ago, Ludhiana soldier dies in Kashmir Op
Back home in Punjab, the wails of mourning villagers filled the air at Manupur in Samrala sub-division Saturday as the news of Pritpal's passing reached his family. Wrapped in tricolor, his mortal remains are expected to reach the village Sunday and the cremation will be performed with full military honors.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Harpreet Singh, his elder brother said: 'Parivaar da karde karde aap turr gaya (He has gone while trying to earn a better life for family). He got married just five months ago in February.
His newly-wedded wife is inconsolable. We have seen too much poverty and our father is a daily-wager. He had joined the Army after passing class 12 so that our family's financial condition could improve.'
According to the Army statement, Lance Naik Pripal Singh from 19 Rashtriya Rifles (Sikh Light Infantry), died 'on August 8 during intermittent and intense exchange of fire with terrorists' after he 'sustained severe splinter injury when hiding terrorists lobbed a grenade.' He later succumbed.
Harpreet said that his brother's only wish was to see their father Harbans Singh fully cured of the oral cancer he has been suffering from.
'He ensured that my father got the best treatment from the Army hospital. I spoke to him last on August 7, hours before the incident, and even then he told me to take care of my father and others in the family. We had asked him to come home for Raksha Bandhan festivities but he said it won't be possible as he was in the middle of an important operation and he had to catch those terrorists first. He had promised to take leave after the Operation and come home for Diwali. But now he won't,' said Harpreet, crying inconsolably.
Harpreet said that even as his brother had taken a bank loan and got their house renovated few months ago around his marriage in February, he himself hardly stayed in it. 'He hardly stayed in the renovated house. We were waiting for his arrival on Diwali to celebrate together. Mera bhraa turr gaya (My brother is gone forever),' he said.
Harbans Singh, father of the deceased soldier said: 'Saade baare sochda sochda chala gaya (He has left the world worrying for us). He had promised to come home on Diwali. We were waiting.'
Pritpal is survived by old parents — father Harbans Singh and sister Kuldeep Kaur, wife Manpreet Kaur, elder brother Harpreet Singh and younger brother Gurdeep Singh.
Harpreet, who works at a private factory, says: 'What can we demand from the government now. We have lost everything. Everyone knows that terrorists in our country are being sent by Pakistan. Instead of conducting these operations, our government should take full-fledged action against the neighboring country and go all out to teach them a lesson. How long can this go?'

Gurugram: Tyre burst on SPR kills 22-year-old, critically injures another
A 22-year-old man died and his 23-year-old friend was critically injured after the car they were travelling in overturned multiple times following a tyre burst on Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) near Tulip Chowk early Tuesday, police said. According to investigators, Sachin had gone to Faridabad on Sunday to drop his sister at her in-laws' house after she visited her parental home for Raksha Bandhan. Vikas had accompanied him. The duo were returning late Monday night when one of the tyres of their car exploded, causing the vehicle to veer violently off course. Sachin lost control, and the car overturned several times before hitting a roadside iron pole, police added. Commuters alerted the police control room, and two emergency response vehicles reached the spot. Both victims were rushed to Sector 10A civil hospital without waiting for ambulances due to their critical condition. Doctors declared Vikas dead on arrival and referred Sachin to a higher centre for advanced treatment. The PRO said no foul play was suspected by the families. An inquiry under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) was initiated based on the statement of Vikas's family at Bilaspur police station. His body was handed over to the family after an autopsy on Tuesday.

Ahmedabad school strike: Teachers return to work after show-cause notice
A day after the Ahmedabad City District Education Office (DEO) issued two show-cause notices to a private school in Maninagar for allegedly staging a protest over salary issues during school hours on Monday, the teachers called off their agitation on Tuesday and returned to work. The Diwan Ballubhai High School teachers in their response to the notice stated that they 'were unaware' that they had to inform the DEO office about the strike. The school management also submitted its response in writing to the DEO office on Tuesday. In their written reply to the notice issued by Ahmedabad (city) DEO Rohit Choudhary, teachers have alleged discrimination in the recent salary hike given by the school administration 'We had verbally brought the matter to the notice of the school principal twice and had requested him to look into it but there was no response … This was the reason we went on strike. We were unaware that we had to give information in writing to the DEO regarding the strike,' the teachers stated. 'We believe that students and parents have faced inconvenience due to the strike, which was not our intention,' the teachers said. Officials at the DEO office said that as of now no action has been taken against the teachers. The management in its response to the show cause notice has stated that the school has introduced a 'performance based' increment process from this year. 'It is up to the DEO to take action as we have submitted our response. Teachers not going to class is uncalled for. They could have followed the process, reached out to the principal or management if they had any grievances. The increment as per the performance, which we had introduced from this year, was announced on Friday and they went on a strike on Monday,' Diwan Ballubhai trust managing trustee Amitabh Thakore told The Indian Express. Earlier a flat increment was given to the school staff instead of performance-based evaluation from this year. Citing a violation of Right to Education Act, DEO Chaudhary on Monday had demanded a reply to the show cause notices issued to teachers and management, by Tuesday. 'Teachers sat on a dharna over the salary increment issue. They did not have any prior approval and they did not inform us also about any such protest. Due to their protest, the students had to suffer. Same goes with the management… why did they fail in resolving the issue and why was it not discussed with the DEO office,' Chaudhary told The Indian Express. 'It is to be informed that on 11/08/2025, the teachers have gone on strike in the school. Due to this incident, the students were made to sit in the classroom without any academic work and the DEO was also not informed about it in advance,' the notice said. 'Also, the school did not give any reply when the parents asked the school management about the issue,' the notice stated. 'Why should you not be held responsible for spoiling the academic work of the students today? And why should your one-day salary not be deducted for affecting the academic work of the children due to your disagreement with the trust?,' stated the notice. 'You have put the future of the children at stake, which is considered a serious matter. Thus, you have clearly violated the rules of the RTE Act 2009… for which why should punitive action not be taken against you? All teachers are requested to submit an explanation regarding this immediately through the school principal within a day. If there is a failure to do so, it will be assumed that you have nothing to say and further action will be taken as per the rules,' stated the notice further.

Jawan from Khammam dies while patrolling in Jammu and Kashmir
Hyderabad: An Indian Army soldier, Banoth Anil Kumar, 31, from Khammam district, died after slipping down a slope during a routine patrol near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. Army authorities reportedly informed the family about the incident on Monday. Sepoy Anil of Maratha Light Infantry, while patrolling a border post, slipped and died on the spot on Monday, the officials said. They said the body of the 31-year-old soldier was taken to Uri sub district hospital for medico-legal formalities. After his Intermediate, Anil Kumar, who was keen on serving in the armed forces, joined the Army in 2012.
