Indira Gandhi attacked Golden Temple in collaboration with the British, claims BJP MP Nishikant Dubey

India Gazette11 hours ago
New Delhi [India], July 7 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey on Monday accused former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi of attacking the Golden Temple in Amritsar in collaboration with Britain and alleged that the Congress party has used the Sikh community for political gain.
In a post on X, Dubey shared a letter written by the then Private Secretary to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Brian Fall, to the then Private Secretary to the Home Secretary, Hugh Taylor. He used this to support his claim that British army officers were present in Amritsar at the time of Operation Blue Star in 1984.
'In 1984, Indira Gandhi launched an attack on the Golden Temple in collaboration with Britain, with British army officers present in Amritsar at that time. For Congress, the Sikh community is merely a toy,' Dubey wrote.
He further alleged that Kartarpur Sahib was handed over to Pakistan through an agreement signed in 1960 by Sardar Swaran Singh.
'1. Pakistan was finally given Kartarpur Sahib in 1960 through an agreement made by Sardar Swaran Singh,' the BJP MP wrote.
Dubey also claimed that prominent Sikh leaders were elevated to high offices to mask the events of 1984 and shield Congress leaders accused of involvement in the anti-Sikh riots.
'2. During the 1984 attack on the Golden Temple and the killing of innocent devotees, Giani Zail Singh was made President. 3. To cover up the 1984 massacre of Sikhs and to protect senior leaders H.K.L. Bhagat, Jagdish Tytler, and Sajjan Kumar, Manmohan Singh was made a puppet Prime Minister in 2004. The story of selling out the country and surrendering before foreigners continues,' the X post read.
These comments come a day after Dubey's earlier post on Sunday, in which he accused the Congress government of giving away 80 per cent of India's share of Indus River water and the Kartarpur Sahib gurdwara to Pakistan in 1960.
'Do you know that in exchange for Pakistan's blood, we gave 80 per cent of our water in the Indus Water Treaty in 1960, and in that same 1960, another agreement took place between Sardar Swaran Singh Ji and Pakistan's Home Minister K.M. Sheikh on January 11, 1960?' Dubey posted.
He questioned the legitimacy of the agreement and accused the then-leadership of surrendering national interests.
'1. Look at the politics--Sardar Swaran Singh Ji was neither the Home Minister nor the Foreign Minister, yet he was making the agreement? 2. Because in that agreement, we gave away our religious centre, Kartarpur Sahib?' the X post read.
He further accused former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru of giving away parts of land in Punjab and favouring Pakistan.
'3. We gave away Sarja Majra, Rakh Hardit Singh, and Pathanke in the Lahore-Amritsar region. 4. We donated some parts of Punjab's Firozpur district. 5. We gave away the areas of Sulemank and Chak Ladke. They announced this in Parliament as if it were the personal property of Nehru Ji or the Gandhi family. Under the Constitution, this is illegal, but this history of Pakistan favouritism is a shameful and deplorable example of political mentality,' the BJP MP claimed. (ANI)

PM Modi likely to visit UK in late July, formalising trade deal on agenda

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the United Kingdom in the last week of July, sources said, in what could mark a key moment for India–UK ties as both sides prepare to formalise their long-pending Free Trade Agreement (FTA). This will be Modi's first visit to the UK since Labour leader Keir Starmer took office as British Prime Minister. Sources said the two leaders are expected to announce the formal signing of the FTA, which was concluded in May after years of negotiations. They add that the visit is in the works and will be announced once dates are finalised. The trade pact, described by both sides as 'historic, ambitious, and mutually beneficial,' aims to deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and boost bilateral trade and investment flows. It follows nearly three years after Modi and former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had set a 2022 deadline for the deal, which was delayed due to contentious issues such as tariffs and political instability in the UK. National Security Adviser Ajit Doval also visited the UK last week, in what is seen as preparatory groundwork ahead of the Prime Minister's likely visit. Meanwhile, the Maldives is also expected to be part of Modi's travel itinerary this month. President Mohamed Muizzu has invited Modi to attend the country's Independence Day celebrations on July 26 as Chief Guest, signalling a thaw in recent tensions between New Delhi and Malé.

VK imposes guv rule in Chakma council for six months

Aizawl: Mizoram governor Gen VK Singh on Monday imposed governor's rule in the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) for six months, exercising powers conferred under Sub-Para (2) of Para 16 and Para 20BB of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India. The decision has been taken by Singh in response to the frequent changes in leadership resulting in political instability and persistent maladministration that have hampered effective governance in the CADC. A BJP leader said an inquiry commission is also likely to be constituted under Para 14 of the Sixth Schedule to investigate the functioning and administrative irregularities of the CADC. CADC BJP president Durjya Dhan Chakma told TOI over phone that BJP welcomes this bold and timely decision. "It is a much-needed step to restore transparency, accountability, and stable governance in the Chakma Autonomous District Council — paving the way for renewed development and the welfare of the people," he said. Political instability raised its head during mid-June when the BJP ruled CADC led by chief executive member Molin Kumar Chakma was voted out of power in a no trust vote on June 16 after 12 BJP members of district council (MDCs) in the 20-member CADC switched loyalty to the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) ruling the state.

‘Misleading': Election Commission Fact-Checks Kharge's Post On Bihar Voter List Revision

Last Updated: The ECI dubbed the Kharge's claim as "misleading" and said that there were no change in the instructions of SIR that is being carried out in Bihar ahead of the assembly elections. The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday fact-checked Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge over Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voters' list in Bihar, who had claimed that the poll body has amended the process of voter verification from asking for documents to only filling a form without any documents citing a newspaper advertisement. The ECI dubbed the Kharge's claim as 'misleading" and said that there were no change in the instructions of SIR that is being carried out in the state ahead of the assembly elections. 'The claim made in this post, that no document is required and only filling the form is sufficient, is misleading. There is no change in the instructions. SIR is being conducted as per the orders dated 24.06.2025. While submitting the filled enumeration form before 25th July 2025 is mandatory, the documents can be submitted at any time either before 25th July 2025 or during the claims and objections period," the ECI said in a post on X. Meanwhile, the Election Commission's decision to initiate a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar's electoral roll in the run-up to the assembly elections later this year has triggered major political controversy. The opposition parties have been alleging that the BJP is trying to snatch voting rights from crores of people in Bihar. On Sunday, the Congress President accused the BJP of conspiring to deprive the people of Bihar of their voter rights through the revision of electoral rolls and said the voters of the state would teach the saffron party a lesson for its attack on democracy and the Constitution. He cited a new advertisement issued by the Election Commission (EC), urging the voters of Bihar to only fill a form under the SIR, and alleged that 'when people rise, BJP backtracks". 'With the support of the Election Commission, the master plan that the BJP had devised to deprive crores of people in Bihar of their voting rights now seems to be ensnaring the BJP itself," Kharge alleged in a post in Hindi on X. भाजपा ने चुनाव आयोग के सहयोग से, बिहार में करोड़ों लोगों का वोटिंग का अधिकार छीनने का जो मास्टर प्लॉन बनाया था, उसमें अब भाजपा खुद फँसती नज़र आ रही है।पहले दिन से ही, कांग्रेस पार्टी Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls (SIR) के ख़िलाफ़ आवाज़ उठा रही है। जो लोग… — Mallikarjun Kharge (@kharge) July 6, 2025 'Why are people who have been voting election after election being asked to show their documents for voting? 'Forcibly depriving the poor, weak, deprived, Dalits, oppressed and backward people of their voting rights is the conspiracy of the BJP-RSS," he alleged. The Congress chief claimed that nearly eight crore people will suffer because of the SIR. 'The responsibility to correct the voter list lies with the EC, not the public. 'When the pressure from the opposition, the public and civil society increased, the Election Commission hurriedly published these advertisements today, which state that now only a form needs to be filled and showing documents is not necessary," he claimed. 'This is part of the BJP's tactic to mislead and confuse the public. The truth is that the BJP has decided it will crush democracy at all costs. But when faced with public opposition, it cleverly takes a step back," the leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha alleged. Meanwhile, the ECI has explained the need for the SIR across India as its constitutional mandate to protect the integrity of electoral rolls. It decided to begin with Bihar since it is the first state where the next assembly election will be held later this year. It said that the SIR is being implemented smoothly at the ground level with the active cooperation of the electors. The EC added that all voters are directly made aware through more than 77,000 BLOs and 4 Lakh volunteers as well as 1.5 lakh BLAs appointed by all political parties. 'In accordance with Article 326, the orders of SIR dated 24 June 2025 clearly enable all eligible electors to be included while excluding ineligible electors after verification by the concerned ERO," the EC said.
