'Spy' Jyoti Malhotra Was Kerala Government's Guest In Tourism Campaign
According to a Mathrubhumi report, a query under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that the Kerala government funded the trip of 41 influencers chosen to promote the southern state as a global tourist destination. The state government paid for their travel, accommodation and food. It roped in a private agency to help them with shooting videos during their stay. Among these 41 influencers was Jyoti Malhotra.
With the revelation prompting opposition parties to target the state government, Kerala Tourism Minister PA Mohammed Riyas said Jyoti Malhotra was invited along with other influencers to promote Kerala. "This was part of a larger influencer campaign aimed at promoting Kerala. Everything was done transparently and in good faith," he said. "This is not a government that facilitates espionage. The media must understand how government systems work. No one could have foreseen this."
He said the allegations being made against the state government over inviting her are "pure propaganda" and that the state government "would never knowingly invite a spy".
Opposition parties, including the Congress and the BJP, have targeted the Left Front government, questioning why the backgrounds of influencers invited for the campaign were not properly checked before reaching out to them.
"RTI reveals Pakistani spy Jyoti Malhotra visited Kerala on Left government invite & was state guest in a sense courtesy Tourism Dept. So Bharat Mata is blocked and Pak Spies are given RED CARPET by Left? Tourism Minister Mohammad Riyas is son in law of Vijayan. He should be sacked.. and investigated," BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said in a post on X.
During her stay in Kerala, Jyoti Malhotra visited Kochi, Kannur, Kozhikode, Alappuzha, Munnar, and Thiruvananthapuram. She shot vlogs on Theyyam performances and captured scenic locations. These vlogs were shared on her YouTube channel, Travel with Jo, and other social media platforms.
The 33-year-old vlogger had visited the state before the allegations of spying surfaced. She was arrested in May 2025, in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. Following her arrest, Haryana Police said Pakistani intelligence agencies were grooming her as an asset. A video of the YouTuber shopping in Lahore while being surrounded by men armed with AK-47 rifles indicated the kind of security and access she enjoyed in Pakistan, very unlike just another vlogger.
Agencies are now investigating whether her videos may have served as a cover for gathering intelligence. Jyoti Malhotra, police have found, also visited Pakistan shortly before the terror attack in Pahalgam, which left 26 innocents dead.

The Summit also recognised India's global conservation efforts, especially through the 'Big Cat Alliance' initiative, said Malviya. The BJP leader also tagged an excerpt of a Summit document which said, 'We extend full support to India for its BRICS Chairship in 2026 and the holding of the XVIII BRICS Summit in India." Earlier, PM Modi condemned terrorism in his statement during the BRICS Session on Peace and Security. 'Terrorism is the most serious challenge facing humanity today. India recently endured a brutal and cowardly terrorist attack. The terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22nd April was a direct assault on the soul, identity, and dignity of India,' he said. PM Modi said, 'This attack was not just a blow to India but to the entire humanity. In this hour of grief and sorrow, I express my heartfelt gratitude to the friendly countries who stood with us and expressed support and condolences.' He also stressed that condemning terrorism must be a matter of principle, and not just of convenience. 'If our response depends on where or against whom the attack occurred, it shall be a betrayal of humanity itself,' he said.

It's a classic case of 'Siddaramaiah Hatao', claims BJP leader Narayanaswamy
Bengaluru, July 7 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is being quietly edged out of state politics through a deliberate strategy by the Congress high command, claimed Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council and senior BJP leader Chelavadi Narayanaswamy today. Calling it a 'classic case of Siddaramaiah Hatao", Narayanaswamy alleged that Siddaramaiah is being diplomatically sidelined under the pretext of national responsibilities. Speaking to reporters, Narayanaswamy pointed to Siddaramaiah's recent appointment as Chairman of the OBC Department in the All India Congress Committee (AICC), as a move designed to remove him from the state's political forefront without open confrontation. 'The moment he was made the OBC committee president, discussions began within Congress circles that he might be sent to national politics. Even Congress insiders are talking about it,' he told reporters in a press conference. Narayanaswamy argued that this is not the first time Congress has deployed such tactics. 'We saw how Mallikarjun Kharge was sidelined in a similar way when he wanted to become Chief Minister. He was sent to Delhi and given a symbolic position. When the Congress loses power, they don't look for a Dalit face—they look for who is loyal to the Gandhi family,' he stated. He warned that the move to shift Siddaramaiah out is cautious and calculated to avoid backlash. 'If Siddaramaiah is even slightly hurt, Congress will sink in Karnataka. So they are handling it softly. They say he will 'organise backward classes' nationally, but in reality, they are trying to remove him from state politics.' 'This is not empowerment, it's displacement. What real power lies in that position? He is not going to become Prime Minister or a central minister,' Narayanaswamy said, describing the national role as largely ornamental. He added that the only political benefit might go to Siddaramaiah's son. 'At most, his son may be made a minister. For Siddaramaiah himself, it's the end of the road. Some even say he'll be made a Rajya Sabha MP, but that's not power, it's political retirement,' he remarked. Narayanaswamy concluded by accusing the Congress of systematically removing strong regional leaders to centralise control. 'When they're in power, they are ignored. Once they lose power, loyalists are rewarded. That's the Congress model—and now Siddaramaiah is facing the same fate.'
