"Central govt refusing to cooperate in crackdown on drug trafficking": AAP's Saurabh Bharadwaj
According to an official release, the AAP Delhi State President alleged that the Centre was playing politics on an issue as serious as narcotics and demanded immediate cooperation with state agencies to dismantle the drug trafficking network operating in Delhi.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj stated, 'We all know that under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, a sustained and major crackdown is underway against drug abuse and those engaged in the drug trade. For years, former Punjab Minister Vikramjit Singh Majithia's name has been repeatedly linked with the drug business in Punjab. Just a few days ago, Majithia was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Department in connection with a drug-related case.'
He added, 'As part of this investigation, the Punjab Police and Vigilance Department are today conducting raids in several states across the country.'
Saurabh Bharadwaj further said, 'It is with great regret that I share with you all that the Punjab Police and Vigilance Department have been seeking to conduct raids at multiple locations in Delhi since this morning. However, the Delhi Police, which reports directly to the BJP-led Central Government, is refusing to cooperate with the Punjab Police and Vigilance Department in executing these raids.'
He stated, 'It appears deliberate efforts are being made to obstruct these raids in Delhi, potentially allowing other culprits involved in the drug racket to destroy evidence and evade arrest.'
Appealing to the Central Government, Saurabh Bharadwaj said, 'Drug addiction is a serious issue that is destroying our future generations and ruining our youth. On such a sensitive issue, the Central Government must rise above politics and extend full cooperation to state governments.'
AAP leader and Delhi Assembly LoP Atishi took to X and posted, 'Has a deal been struck between BJP and Vikram Majithia, accused in the drug money case? Now, the BJP is saving Majithia from the drug money case; in return, Majithia will join the BJP. Since this morning, Punjab Police have been present to raid two important locations in Delhi. But the BJP's Delhi Police is not allowing the raid to happen. Why is BJP protecting the accused in the drug money case?' (ANI)

ED: Majithia charges prima facie based on conjectures
NEW DELHI: ED, which is looking to launch a probe into alleged money laundering by Bikram Singh Majithia , has found the charges against him to be prima facie based on conjectures and statements made by the accused. Sources said details shared so far with ED by Punjab's vigilance bureau which recently arrested Majithia, show that the charges that he laundered Rs 540 crore of drug money are not backed with "corroborative evidence". Majithia, a former state cabinet minister and brother-in-law of ex-deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal , has been in custody of Punjab police since his arrest on June 26. Majithia had first come under investigation of the anti-money laundering agency in the Bhola drug smuggling case in which two of his aides were arrested. However, the investigation was closed when he and his aides were exonerated. The vigilance bureau registered a fresh FIR against Majithia on June 25. Its case is based on a 2021 FIR by a Punjab police SIT, in which no chargesheet was filed, sources said. The SIT report, emanating from its FIR in 2021, was itself based on an ED report after the Bhola drug case investigation.

Govt. to seek clarity on overage vehicles with fitness certificates
Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Wednesday said the Delhi government will approach the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) to seek clarity on the issue of vehicles that have passed fitness tests but are classified as overage. The decision follows criticism from residents, particularly owners of vehicles deemed overage but issued Pollution Under Control certificates after clearing fitness checks. According to the National Green Tribunal, overage vehicles are defined as petrol vehicles older than 15 years and diesel vehicles older than 10 years. On Tuesday, fuel stations in the Capital denied fuel to overage vehicles. Mr. Sirsa said the government aims to present all relevant facts before the CAQM. 'We will present all facts before the CAQM — what steps we have taken, how enforcement is being implemented, and how we are cleaning the air,' he said at a press meet. Barbs exchanged The Minister accused the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of failing to take adequate measures to curb pollution in Delhi. 'It is unfair that the people of Delhi are today being forced to pay the price for the failures of the AAP government, when they deserve to be treated on a par with those in any other State,' he said. However, Leader of the Opposition Atishi alleged that the BJP government has a vested interest of benefiting car manufacturing companies. 'Around 6.2 million vehicles will be removed from the roads so that people are forced to buy new vehicles and fill the companies' purses,' she said, also demanding that the BJP 'reveal how much donations it received from these companies'. The implementation of the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system at fuel stations came after multiple orders issued by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) since 2014 and a subsequent Supreme Court ruling in 2018.
