45,684 traffic challans issued so far this year in Panchkula; riding without helmets tops the list
The police in Panchkula have issued 45,684 challans so far in 2025 — with the highest number — 16,738 — being the offence of riding without helmets, followed by 11,814 for not possessing valid pollution certificates.
According to Panchkula DCP (Crime & Traffic) Amit Dahiya, to strengthen traffic enforcement, 20 additional police personnel have been added to the department.
Also, a new rotation policy for traffic staff deployment has also been introduced to ensure better efficiency and wider coverage.
Dahiya emphasised discipline, transparency, and accountability, warning that negligence will not be tolerated.
As part of its enforcement strategy, the police are running a special campaign against drunk driving, setting up checkpoints and taking immediate action.
In one notable case, a resident was fined Rs 43,500 for multiple traffic violations.
The figures were shared during a key meeting held by DCP on Monday at the DCP office in Sector 1.
The meeting focused on reviewing the current traffic situation and preparing a new action plan to improve road discipline across the city.
ACP (Traffic) Sukarpal Singh and other senior officials participated in the meeting.
The DCP also reviewed the status of CCTV cameras across the city and directed further installations, along with new road safety signage at critical locations.
Officials were instructed to identify accident-prone areas and coordinate with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for remedial measures.
