After a long wait, Marvel may have finally found the director who will bring the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Deadline reports that Jake Schreier, director of "Thunderbolts*" (or "*The New Avengers"), is in early talks to helm "X-Men". The script for the film has already been written by Michael Lesslie with Kevin Feige producing.

Deadline reports that things have been looking in favor of Schreier directing "X-Men" ever since positive early reactions to "Thunderbolts*" began pouring in. They also say that while other studios have come knocking, the director has been turning down other work, possibly to make room for "X-Men".

It isn't exactly a shock that Marvel would consider Schreier a top contender to bring the X-Men back into the fold. "Thunderbolts*" not only earned overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics, but pulled in $162 million globally on its first weekend.
Marvel has taken its time bringing the X-Men into the MCU and has slowly been introducing the very notion of mutants into the narrative while at the same time teasing fans with clever cameos. As early as the 2021 series "WandaVision" the appearance of Evan Peters as Quicksilver had fans speculating the series would open the doors for the X-Men. Fans have since been treated to the return of "X-Men" actors such as Patrick Stewart in "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" and Kelsey Grammer in "The Marvels". In the meantime characters such as Iman Vellani's Ms. Marvel and Namor of "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" have been teased as early examples of mutants in the MCU.
Last year's "Deadpool & Wolverine" brought Hugh Jackman back to his signature role and connected the world of the cinematic X-Men to that of the larger MCU, but without bringing them into Earth-616, the prime Marvel timeline.
"Avengers: Doomsday" promises to do even more with the X-Men. During Marvel's epic 5-hour cast announcement, it was revealed "X-Men" actors Stewart, Grammer, Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, and Alan Cumming would all be appearing, presumably as their famous mutant personas.
"Thunderbolts*" is playing in theaters now. The film is directed by Jake Schreier and stars Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Lewis Pullman, Geraldine Viswanathan, Chris Bauer, Wendell Edward Price, Hannah John-Kamen, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Even Fox News isn't impressed with Musk dodging question over alleged drug use

A Fox News host called out Elon Musk's response to the New York Times report alleging drug use while the billionaire was working as Trump's senior adviser at the Department of Government Efficiency. The Times report alleged that Musk was frequently using magic mushrooms, ecstasy, Adderall, and ketamine in amounts that caused him bladder issues. When asked about the report during an Oval Office press briefing on Friday, Musk questioned the newspaper's credibility. 'Wait, wait, The New York Times, is that the same publication that got a Pulitzer Prize for false reporting on Russiagate? Is it the same organization?' Musk replied. 'Let's move on.' On Sunday, Fox News anchor Howard Kurtz called out Musk for refusing to answer the question directly, saying he 'decided to talk about something from five years ago involving the Pulitzers because he knew that he did not want to answer that question. That's my take.' "That's called deflection," Kurtz said. Musk has previously admitted to using a "small amount" of ketamine to treat depression. He made the admission in an interview with former CNN host Don Lemon in 2024. Critics of Musk on social media — including his own platform, X — have been quick to accuse him of being under the influence of drugs, generally in response to videos of him doing odd things. In a recent video in which Musk was recorded stacking spoons at a dinner, one X user accused him of "tripping on ketamine" while visiting Trump's Bedminster golf club. Musk replied to the accusation by saying, "I'm not on ketamine ffs." Another video of Musk's recent appearance in the Oval Office, which shows him lolling his head and rolling his eyes while Trump was speaking. His appearance — including a black eye he said he received while playing with his young son — was similarly lampooned on social media. Musk's latest visit to the Oval Office was something of a send off; his predetermined time serving as Trump's senior adviser at DOGE has expired, and he appears to be returning to the private sector to focus on his businesses, though the president insists that the world's richest man will still be hanging around DC.
