Kyren Williams contract: LA Rams ink RB to $33M extension
One of the Arizona Cardinals' NFC West rivals has locked up one of its key offensive pieces. The Los Angeles Rams agreed to a contract extension with running back Kyren Williams, the team announced on Tuesday.
The extension is worth a reported $33 million and adds three years to his deal. He was entering the final year of his rookie deal and now is under contract through 2028. He is now the seventh-highest paid running back in the NFL.
Williams, drafted by the Rams in the fifth round in 2022, had 1,144 rushing yards in 2023 and 15 total touchdowns, leading the NFL with an average of 95.3 yards per game.
Last year, he was a yard shy of 1,300 yards and had 16 total touchdowns.
His production has helped the Rams shift from a high-powered passing attack to a strong, powerful run game, which is helpful when they have a 37-year-old Matthew Stafford as their starting quarterback.
The Cardinals will have to face Williams multiple times a year now for the foreseeable future.

Are the Browns' early QB injuries already a problem?
Yahoo Sports NFL analyst Nate Tice, NFL writer Charles McDonald and fantasy analyst Matt Harmon discuss the series of concerns for Cleveland's quarterbacks entering the first game of the preseason. Hear the full conversation on 'Football 301' - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript The Cleveland Browns, who went 3 and 14 in 2024, retained their staff while their staff stayed largely intact. Tommy Reese is now the offensive coordinator. They also have Jim Schwartz, still the defensive coordinator, who kind of had that usual Jim Schwartz year two drop-off that we usually see when he's the defensive coordinator. Kevin Stefanski is still the head coach. They have some quarterback interest. So, let's start there. The Cleveland Browns. Charles, let's start with you. I think you're right about this week. What are you focusing on with the Cleveland Browns' offense this year? Well, what am I focusing on with the offense here for the Cleveland Browns? I want to see if all five quarterbacks play. Let's get Tyler Huntley in there. Let's roster five quarterbacks and have all of them play for me with this offense, though. Yeah, the quarterbacks, that's how it shakes out. I just want you to know the odds right now to beat week one starter Joe Flacco are -265. That's a pretty heavy favorite there. Kenny Pickett is plus 400, Dylan Gabriel, the third-round pick, plus 680, and Shater Sanders is plus 2500. That's 25 to 1. So he's starting Friday because they have not one but two quarterbacks with hamstring injuries in training camp. I have never even seen one quarterback with a hamstring injury in training camp. I mean, you rarely see that. And they have two. How much scrambling and bailing from the pocket have Kenny Pickett and Dylan Gabriel been doing during training camp? I've been told Shaur has a sore shoulder. They have four QBs; most NFL teams have three QBs on the roster, and then they have like a coach be the fourth guy, AKA that's why I was with the Raiders or, you know, somebody else just throwing those extra throws. They have four guys, and they have had a guy with a sore shoulder and two guys with sore hamstrings. I've never seen anything like that, so it's just like what are you, Cleveland? Close

Ohtani homers for 1,000th hit and strikes out 8, but Cardinals rally past Dodgers 5-3
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Shohei Ohtani homered for his 1,000th career hit and struck out a season-high eight in four innings on the mound, but the St. Louis Cardinals rallied late to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-3 on Wednesday. Jordan Walker had three hits for the Cardinals, including an RBI single off Alex Vesia (2-1) that tied the score with two outs in the eighth. St. Louis took a 4-3 lead on the same play when rookie third baseman Alex Freeland made a costly throwing error while trying to get Walker at second. Lars Nootbaar added a run-scoring double off reliever Brock Stewart in the ninth. Walker was a late addition to the starting lineup. He replaced Willson Contreras, who had a stomach bug. JoJo Romero (4-3) earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief. Riley O'Brien got four outs for his first major league save. Ohtani allowed one run and two hits in his eighth start this season. He struck out the side in the fourth. The two-way superstar didn't pitch in 2024 while rehabbing from elbow surgery, though he helped Los Angeles win the World Series with an MVP season at the plate. Ohtani launched a two-run shot in the third, putting the Dodgers ahead 2-1 with his 39th homer of the year. They added a run in the fourth when Andy Pages stole third and scored on a throwing error by catcher Pedro Pagés. St. Louis cut it to 3-2 in the sixth on an RBI groundout by Nootbaar. Key moment Ohtani gave up his first stolen base of the season when Walker swiped second in the third. Key stat The Dodgers got the leadoff man aboard in five straight innings, including Ohtani twice. The Cardinals did the same over the last four innings. Up next Cardinals rookie Michael McGreevy (3-2, 5.08 ERA) starts against Matthew Boyd (11-4, 2.34) and the visiting Chicago Cubs on Friday night. Dodgers LHP Clayton Kershaw (5-2, 3.29 ERA) pitches against Toronto RHP Max Scherzer (2-1, 4.39) on Friday in a matchup between members of the 3,000-strikeout club.
