Two men dead after separate drownings in Manitoba
Manitoba RCMP are investigating two separate drowning incidents that claimed the lives of two men on Saturday. Steinbach RCMP were called to Reynolds Ponds in the Rural Municipality of Reynolds around 2 p.m. Officers were told a man had been swimming when he suddenly disappeared beneath the surface and did not come up. Bystanders were searching for the swimmer but did not find the man. The Manitoba RCMP Underwater Recovery Team was deployed to assist in the search. A 70-year-old man from Ontario was later found dead. Drowning in Grand Beach Later that evening, Selkirk RCMP responded to another drowning at Grand Beach around 8 p.m. Police were told two men had gone out onto the lake on a pool floatation device, then the men lost their balance and fell into the water. One man was rescued by a nearby kayaker, but the second man did not resurface. The Underwater Recovery Team located the body of a 25-year-old Winnipeg man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.

Man dies in Quebec City residential fire
A man died and a woman was injured after a fire erupted in a row housing development in Quebec City on Saturday night. Quebec City's fire department said that at around 10:55 p.m., several calls were made to 911 to report a fire at a residential building on Gingras Street. According to Bill Noonan, spokesperson for the Service de protection contre l'incendie de Québec, dispatch details indicate that flames could be seen escaping from a residence and windows were bursting from the heat. A woman was also reported being on part of the building's front roof. Firefighters at the scene entered the burning building and located an unconscious man on the second floor, brought him outside and began resuscitation, Noonan explained in a statement. But the 54-year-old man was pronounced dead. "No smoke alarm sounds were heard by the first firefighters on the scene," Noonan said. He added that, when the first firefighters arrived, a woman was lying on the ground outside with burns. She was then taken to hospital. The fire was extinguished a few hours after it broke out. Around 60 firefighters were involved in the operation.

Mounties were first dispatched at around 2 p.m. on Saturday to the Rural Municipality of Reynolds after receiving reports that a person might have drowned at Reynolds Ponds, which is about 65 kilometres east of Winnipeg. Police were told a man had been swimming when suddenly he didn't resurface. While bystanders had tried to search for him, they couldn't find him. A 70-year-old man from Ontario was later found dead, RCMP said. The second drowning happened at Grand Beach. RCMP said they were dispatched to the provincial park about 80 kilometres north of Winnipeg at around 8 p.m. on Saturday. While one of them was rescued by a nearby kayaker, the other one didn't resurface, RCMP said. The underwater team found a 25-year-old man from Winnipeg in the water who was pronounced dead.
