The Golden Bachelor franchise has found its new leading man, and this time, it's someone who has tackled life both on the gridiron and in the courtroom.
Mel Owens
, a 66-year-old former NFL linebacker turned attorney, is officially set to star in the upcoming season of The Golden Bachelor, as announced by
ABC
and Disney during Hulu's Get Real House event on April 22.
Golden Bachelor Season 2 introduces Mel Owens—ex-NFL player with a golden heart
Mel Owens follows in the footsteps of Gerry Turner, the first-ever Golden Bachelor who captured hearts in 2023, and Joan Vassos, who made history as the first Golden Bachelorette. But Owens brings a compelling journey of his own — one shaped by triumphs, challenges, and a deep-rooted desire to find love once again.
Born and raised in Detroit, Owens came from a close-knit Midwestern family. His drive and discipline were evident early on, eventually leading him to the University of Michigan, where he became a standout athlete. His dedication paid off when he was selected as the ninth overall pick in the 1981
NFL Draft
by the Los Angeles Rams. For a decade, he built a solid career on the field until an injury forced him to retire in 1991.
Yet, Owens' story didn't end with football. He transitioned seamlessly into the legal world, earning his law degree and moving to Orange County, California, where he began advocating for clients dealing with sports-related injuries. It was there that he met his first love. The couple married and went on to raise two sons together.
However, life threw Owens a curveball. The death of his father came at the same time as the dissolution of his marriage, a period that deeply tested his resilience. Rather than dwell in disappointment, Owens channeled his energy into being the best father he could be — coaching his sons in their sports and embracing single fatherhood with pride and grace.
But now, years later, Owens is ready to take a bold step back into the realm of romance. According to ABC, he's seeking 'a love rooted in the simple joys of companionship — sharing life's everyday moments, making plans for the future and growing stronger together as a couple.' He's hoping to meet someone who shares that heartfelt vision and is ready to walk hand in hand into the golden years of life.
'As the Golden Bachelor, he's eager to meet someone who shares this vision and finally find that perfect teammate he's been waiting for in his golden years,' reads the press release from ABC.
From the NFL to the courtroom, and now to the world of reality television, Mel Owens has lived many chapters. This next one promises to be just as meaningful — not just for him, but for millions watching and rooting for love to bloom again in its most mature and beautiful form.

'He's got to do better': Tom Brady's Raiders leadership questioned as coaching decisions spark backlash
Tom Brady's leadership questioned as coaching decisions faces backlash (Image via Getty) The Las Vegas Raiders find themselves at the center of growing tension, not just on the field, but behind the scenes. With Tom Brady stepping deeper into team matters as a minority owner and Chip Kelly stepping in as offensive coordinator, questions about direction, control, and credibility are beginning to mount. Tom Brady and Chip Kelly's vision faces growing pains in Las Vegas Tom Brady, celebrated for his championship legacy, is now navigating unfamiliar territory in a leadership role beyond the locker room. But what seemed like a strategic power move bringing in Chip Kelly, a coach known for system-heavy football and unconventional methods may be causing friction instead of creating momentum. Chip Kelly's NFL return was already polarizing. His past is marked by clashes with veterans and an unwillingness to bend his approach. Now, early signs suggest those old patterns are resurfacing. Rookie running back Ashton Jeanty, one of the most explosive backs in college last season, has reportedly been asked to alter his stance before taking a single pro snap. The move has raised eyebrows across the league not just for its timing, but for what it says about the Raiders' evolving culture under Brady and Kelly. DeSean Jackson rips Chip Kelly as Raiders face identity crisis under Tom Brady's watch Former Eagles wideout DeSean Jackson, who had a rocky experience under Kelly in Philadelphia didn't hold back, 'Honestly, he's got to do better... by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo I don't like giving him light, but as a coach, you have to be better. This guy [Jeanty] was one of the best running backs in college football. He's had the production, still runs crazy, led the nation in yards. To come into the NFL and try to change his stance? I'm just not a fan of it. " While Kelly defended the adjustment as minor and necessary for NFL conditioning, critics argue it reflects a top-down culture shift where individuality may be stifled in favor of rigid control. No green light yet: Aaron Rodgers reportedly hasn't given Steelers a firm answer on signing
Aaron Rodgers reportedly hasn't confirmed Steelers move, leaving NFL world buzzing with theories (Getty Images) Aaron Rodgers has long been known for his unpredictable nature, both on and off the field. But this offseason, it's not a headline-grabbing play or a controversial statement stirring buzz — it's his silence. The veteran quarterback has somehow become the most talked-about player without actually saying much, leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers — and the rest of the league — hanging in the balance. Steelers deal not done yet—Aaron Rodgers reportedly remains non-committal about joining team Aaron Rodgers' future has become one of the biggest mysteries of the offseason. His name has been heavily linked to the Steelers, especially after the New York Jets parted ways with the four-time MVP. Yet, despite the smoke, there's still no fire — no signature, no firm commitment, and definitely no public assurance. That void has only intensified speculation. On The Rich Eisen Show, NFL insider Tom Pelissero shed some light on the situation: "I have been told that he has not affirmatively told the Steelers that he's coming... There's all these signs that he's coming, but he's not affirmatively said, 'Hey, June 9, book me the ticket, I'm coming in and I'm gonna join this team.' That has not happened as of this point." That ambiguity has left Pittsburgh in a tough spot. They went all in on Rodgers this offseason, even letting other viable options slip away. Russell Wilson moved to the New York Giants. Justin Fields signed with the Jets. And Kirk Cousins, while a potential target, carries a price tag too steep for a team banking on a cheaper solution. Steelers Trade Coming Soon? No More Aaron Rodgers? Despite Rodgers previously visiting the Steelers' facility and reportedly giving a verbal nod weeks ago, the front office has been met with radio silence. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler recently stated, "When I talk to people with the team, they say the same thing... they've remained optimistic that he will be a Steeler, but there is just nothing fast and firm yet on him signing with the team." Steelers' minicamp kicks off June 10, and every day without a decision cuts deeper into their preparation. In the meantime, Pittsburgh is doing what it can, continuing to develop Mason Rudolph and rookie Will Howard during OTAs. But it's clear — they're still holding their breath for Rodgers. The quarterback himself hasn't offered much clarity either. On The Pat McAfee Show, he admitted retirement remains on the table and mentioned personal matters playing a role in his indecision. He later appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience, but avoided football altogether. He did, however, offer a tidbit on the You Know What I Mean podcast, confirming one thing: he won't play for the Chicago Bears. The uncertainty may have unintentionally worked in Pittsburgh's favor when it comes to scheduling. NFL insider Ari Meirov noted, 'The Steelers not having a QB yet — and the uncertainty around Aaron Rodgers — may have worked in their favor. They got just 4 primetime games… If Rodgers had signed, they likely would've had 6+ and some holiday slots.' Rodgers has expressed affection for his longtime team, saying, 'There's a lot of love for me and how I feel about the team... If they approached me about it, I probably would [retire as a Packer].' That statement, too, keeps the door open to walking away. At this point, the Steelers face a decision of their own. Wait indefinitely for a legend to make up his mind — or pivot and avoid being left at the altar. Because one thing's clear: only Aaron Rodgers knows what's coming next. Saquon Barkley is the cover of Madden 26 — Should the Eagles star worry about falling prey to the Madden curse?
Eagles superstar RB Saquon Barkley is officially on the cover of Madden 26! (Getty Images) When Saquon Barkley pulled off his jaw-dropping reverse hurdle last season, it didn't just electrify fans — it etched his name into football history. That kind of play doesn't just dominate highlight reels; it earns the ultimate pop culture nod in the NFL universe: a Madden cover. And for the 2026 edition of EA Sports' iconic video game, it's Barkley's moment in the spotlight. Will the Madden curse strike again with Saquon Barkley gracing the cover this year? The Philadelphia Eagles' star running back has officially been announced as the cover athlete for Madden NFL 26, a recognition that puts him in elite company. Not only that, Barkley has been named to the prestigious Madden 99 Club — becoming the first Eagles offensive player to receive the honor. 'Starring on the cover of Madden NFL 26 and being named to the Madden NFL '99 Club' are both dreams come true,' Barkley said. 'I'm grateful to my teammates, coaches and Eagles fans for their support, and I can't wait to hit the field again to give Madden players more highlight-reel moments in Madden NFL 26.' After a season where he shattered records with 2,504 rushing yards — the highest single-season total in league history — Barkley's spot on the cover seems more than justified. He also walked away with the AP Offensive Player of the Year award, further cementing his status as one of the league's most dominant forces. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo But with this honor comes a shadowy question — is Barkley destined to be the next victim of the infamous 'Madden Curse'? The so-called Madden Curse has been a part of NFL lore since the franchise began featuring players on its cover in 1999. The theory? That a featured athlete's following season is marked by injury, underperformance, or sheer bad luck. Over the years, it's claimed some of the biggest names in football — Marshall Faulk, Michael Vick, and even reigning stars like Odell Beckham Jr. and Christian McCaffrey. Of the 27 athletes who've graced the cover since 1999, 16 have ended up injured the following season. Others saw steep declines in performance. The curse may not come for everyone, but it has shown up often enough to spark superstition among fans and players alike. However, recent trends suggest the Madden Curse might be losing steam. Only 2.5 of the last 10 cover stars from 2014–2024 have suffered what could be called a 'cursed' season. Even in cases like Josh Allen (Madden 24), while his interceptions spiked, he still produced a strong season overall. Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady, co-cover stars for Madden 22, delivered top-tier performances even if they fell short of Super Bowl glory. So while the curse has certainly touched careers, its grip seems to be loosening in the modern era. Saquon Barkley isn't stepping into this spotlight blind. He's coming off a historic campaign with the confidence of someone who already conquered the physical and mental hurdles that come with elite-level football. His addition to the 99 Club puts him in a rare tier — joining Eagles legends like Brian Dawkins (Madden 04) and David Akers (Madden 06) — and reaffirms that he's not just making plays; he's redefining the running back position. EA Sports VP Evan Dexter summed it up perfectly: 'Saquon's reverse hurdle was one of the rare, defining moments in NFL history that would have once been described as 'something out of a video game.'' Now, it's literally in one. The real question is whether the so-called curse will interrupt Barkley's momentum. Given his physical condition, surrounding offensive talent in Philadelphia, and the calculated way he trains and manages his body, he might be one of the most prepared cover athletes to date. Let's not forget — superstition doesn't score touchdowns, and curses don't chase down safeties. Preparation, grit, and a powerful offensive line do.
