PETALING JAYA: It is still too early to decide on the Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Ampang parliamentary seat in the 16th General Election (GE16), says Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) division chief, Syed Ahmad Abdul Rahman Alhadad, better known as Altimet.
Altimet, who is also the Lembah Jaya assemblyman, said the top leadership of PKR would determine all decisions on candidates.
'With regard to speculation about our parliamentary candidate for the next general election, the Ampang division would like to state that it is still too early to make any decision.
'We leave this matter completely to the party's top leadership, in accordance with PKR's internal democratic processes,' he said in a statement on Sunday (Aug 10).
The Ampang division has drawn attention recently following Tengku Zafrul's official entry into PKR.On Aug 8, Zafrul confirmed that his membership application had been approved, just two months after leaving Umno on June 2.
Altimet said election candidacy was not determined by an individual's residential address, division membership, or party position, but instead follows the criteria set by the Election Commission (EC).
He also welcomed individuals from all backgrounds to join PKR in its efforts to build a fairer, more prosperous and progressive Malaysia.
'Our focus remains on strengthening grassroots efforts, protecting the welfare of the people, and ensuring that the reform agenda championed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the party leadership is effectively implemented,' he said.

Former PKR Deputy President Rafizi Ramli's Child Attacked With Syringe In Putrajaya Shopping Centre

Subscribe to our FREE The child of former PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli was attacked with a syringe by an unknown assailant at a Putrajaya shopping centre on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 1:45 pm today (13 August) as Rafizi's wife and their 12-year-old son were entering their car to leave the shopping complex. A man had allegedly grabbed the boy and injected him with a syringe before fleeing. According to Rafizi's Facebook post, surveillance footage showed two men on a motorcycle following his wife's car. He believes the attack was premeditated. The attack involved two men dressed entirely in black and wearing helmets that completely covered their faces. They had been waiting earlier and rushed to attack my child at the opportune moment. The child was immediately taken to UPM Hospital for treatment. Rafizi Vows to Continue Despite Family Threat Police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, and Rafizi's family has given statements to authorities. Rafizi, who previously served as a minister, said this was the first time his family had been targeted since he became a public political figure. He believes the attack was a warning to stop him from speaking out on specific issues. While I will take follow-up measures to improve security controls, I will not bow to any threats and will continue to carry out my duties as usual. The former Economy Minister stated that this was the first time his family had been targeted since he became a public figure. He said further information about the incident, investigation and medical examination results should be released by the police and the hospital. No arrests have been reported, and the motive for the attack remains under investigation. Rafizi had been vocal against the government since stepping down as minister, the latest being his criticism of Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek for involving schoolchildren in sending birthday wishes to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, emphasising that politics shouldn't be mixed with education. Anwar calls for immediate probe into assault on Rafizi's son

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for an immediate and transparent investigation into the case involving an assault on the son of former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli. The Prime Minister said he had conveyed this to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. "We have yet to recover from the scourge of bullying in schools and now we are confronted with another deplorable act – a malicious and treacherous assault on the son of Rafizi Ramli," he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday (Aug 13). He also prayed for the well-being of Rafizi and his family. Earlier, Rafizi said that his son and wife were getting into their car to leave a shopping mall in Putrajaya at about 1.45pm on Wednesday when a man grabbed the boy and pricked him with a syringe. He said the assault involved two men in black and wearing helmets who were on a motorcycle. Rafizi's son was taken immediately taken to a hospital after the attack. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said he would pray for the speedy recovery of Rafizi's son. In a post on X, Fahmi, who is also PKR information chief, expressed sadness, shock and anger over the attack. "As a father with children around the same age, I am also deeply concerned about my family's safety, he said. Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister and PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said in a statement that the party strongly condemns the assault. "Children must never be made victims under any circumstances. Such actions are cruel, inhumane and must be strongly condemned by all," said Fuziah. Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang, who is also PKR vice-president, in a Facebook post urged the police to act swiftly to identify the perpetrators and masterminds and bring them to justice. Chang urged politicians from all parties to show solidarity and stand with Rafizi and his family to oppose such abhorrent behaviour. – Bernama
