Hennessey Demon 1700: Twin-Turbo, 1,700 HP, 7.9s Quarter-Mile

Auto Blog29-06-2025
The Dodge Demon 170 is already one of the most ludicrous muscle cars ever made. With 1,025 hp sent to the rear wheels through a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 Hemi, it rockets through the quarter-mile in just 8.91 seconds — quicker than most hypercars. That should have been the end of the story. But Hennessey, the Texas tuner known for modified Mustangs, Camaros, and the Venom F5, has done something unimaginable. It's called the Hennessey Demon 1700.

Muscle cars are supposed to have humongous, gas-guzzling naturally aspirated V8 engines, with a high-performance oddball flaunting a supercharger. However, Hennessey just broke the unspoken rule. They ditched the Demon's supercharger in favor of a set of turbochargers, much like Chevy did with the ZR1. Usually, this would result in outrage. A turbocharged muscle car? A modern Dodge muscle car without a whine? That's like microwaving a steak. But when your name is Hennessey, you can get away with pretty much anything. After bumping its displacement from 6.2 to 7.2 liters and adding two turbochargers, the V8 generates a staggering 1,700 hp and about 1,400 lb-ft of torque on E85, as you can see on the video below.

When you mash the accelerator pedal in the standard 1,025-hp Demon 170 from a standstill, you're met with clouds of smoke, the smell of rubber, and a 0 to 60 mph time of 1.66 seconds. The quarter-mile is said to arrive in a brisk 8.91 seconds, but Hennessey claims the 1,700-hp Demon 170 will do it in 7.9 seconds, making it the fastest car down the drag strip in the world. That title is currently held by the McMurtry Speirling, with the electric fan car clocking a time of 7.97 seconds.

During this dyno test, Ram's CEO, Tim Kuniskis, can be spotted in sheer disbelief. While this doesn't necessarily confirm anything, it gives petrolheads hope that this monstrous V8 might stumble its way into a RAM truck, or perhaps even save the brand-new Dodge Charger from remaining a laughing stock. One thing is certain, though: there's more than enough reason to celebrate Hennessey's Frankenstein creation, and we're on the edge of our seats waiting to see what's coming next.

To create this thing, Shelby takes a standard Mustang Dark Horse and straps a 3.0-litre Whipple supercharger to its 5.0-litre V8 – the result being over 850bhp that you can send to the rear wheels via a six-speed Tremec manual or a 10-speed auto gearbox. Wow. Advertisement - Page continues below To put that power down there are 13in-wide rear tyres that are wrapped around forged 20in magnesium wheels and covered by widened rear arches. There are carbon fibre arch extensions up front too, plus carbon bonnet vents, a carbon splitter, carbon side skirts, a carbon rear diffuser and not one but two carbon rear wings for good measure. Yep, one's a little ducktail and the other is chuffing massive. Musk quietly puts brakes on plans for new political party, WSJ says

Aug 19 (Reuters) - Billionaire Elon Musk is quietly putting the brakes on plans to start his new political party, telling allies he wants to focus on his companies, the Wall Street Journal said on Tuesday, citing people with knowledge of the plans. Musk unveiled the 'America Party' in July after a public dispute with President Donald Trump on the tax cut and spending bill. He has recently been focused in part on maintaining ties with Vice President JD Vance, the paper said, and has acknowledged to associates that forming a political party would damage his relationship with Vance. Musk, the world's richest man, and his associates have told people close to Vance that the billionaire is considering using some of his financial resources to back Vance if he decides to run for president in 2028, the paper said. The CEO of Tesla (TSLA.O), opens new tab and SpaceX spent nearly $300 million in 2024 to help Trump and other Republicans get elected, exerting enormous influence in the first few weeks of Trump's term as head of the newly created efficiency department (DOGE). Reuters could not immediately verify the Journal report. Tesla and the White House did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment outside regular business hours. Vance, who had called for a truce following Musk's all-public feud with Trump, reaffirmed his position this month and said he had asked Musk to return to the Republican fold. Tesla shares are down more than 18% this year after it posted in July its worst quarterly sales decline in more than a decade and profit that missed Wall Street targets, though its profit margin was better than many had feared. Musk also warned of "a few rough quarters" after the end of support for electric vehicles by the Trump administration. Investors worry whether he will be able to devote enough time and attention to Tesla after locking horns with Trump over his ambitions for a new political party.

‘Vladimir Putin bought me a £16k motorbike as a gift while in Alaska… I should probably write him a thank you letter'

RUSSIAN tyrant Vladimir Putin gave an Alaskan local a brand new £16,000 motorbike while visiting the US for his high-stakes summit with Donald Trump. Mark Warren, 66, was given the bike after footage of him complaining he couldn't fix his Soviet-era motorcycle went viral on Russian media. 8 8 8 The retired fire inspector, who lives in Anchorage, where the US and Russian leaders met last Friday, rode off with a brand new Ural Gear Up sidecar. Manufacturing firm Ural, a motors company founded in 1941 in Western Siberia when it was under Joseph Stalin's Soviet Union, now operates in Kazakhstan. Warren complained he was unable to obtain the correct parts to fix the motorcycle because of supply-and-demand issues and sanctions on Russia. State-sponsored Russian media spotted Warren running errands on the bike one week before the Trump and Putin summit. He said: "It went viral, it went crazy, and I have no idea why, because Im really just a super-duper normal guy. "They just interviewed some old guy on a Ural, and for some reason they think its cool." On August 13, two days before the Trump-Putin summit to discuss the war in Ukraine, Warren received a call from a Russian journalist. They told him: "They've decided to give you a bike." Warren said he was also sent a document noting the gift was arranged through the Russian Embassy in the States. The Alaska man thought it was a scam - but after Trump and Putin departed Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson following their three-hour summit, he got another call about the bike. Hilarious moment Zelensky gets revenge on reporter who criticised him for not wearing suit to first Oval Office meeting Warren was told his new £16,000 bike was at the same base the world leaders had met at. He was instructed to go to an Anchorage hotel for the handoff. After arriving alongside his wife, he met six Russian men who presented him with the mind-boggling gift. "I dropped my jaw," he said. "I went, 'You've got to be joking me'." He said the men only asked to interview and picture him. Two reporters and someone from the group got on the bike with him while he drove around the car park to show it off. The lucky punter had reservations about the Ural being a malicious Russian scam. 8 8 8 But he accepted the gift, which according to its paperwork was manufactured on August 12. He said: "The obvious thing here is that it rolled off the showroom floor and slid into a jet within probably 24 hours." And he told the Daily Mail: "I'm dumbfounded. I guess I should probably write Putin a thank you letter or something. "I haven't. I've been so busy it hasn't really sunk in yet." He added: "It's super cool, you know? I mean, it's just such a unique bike." It comes as Putin continues to wage his bloody war on Ukraine. The despot unleashed a fresh breakthrough assault just hours before his summit with Trump. And just hours after Trump's summit with European allies, Russia blitzed Ukraine over Monday night with 270 drones and missiles. The brutal attacks targeted energy and transport infrastructure. Just before Zelesnky and his European counterparts were set to meet Trump on Monday, another vicious attack killed 14 people and injured dozens in Ukraine. 8 8
