Gogglebox star, 96, dies as granddaughter shares final 6 words in moving tribute
Emily Silbery, known as Emmie, who appeared on the Australian show, died at the age of 96, her granddaughter Isabelle has announced.
Sharing a moving tribute, Isabelle said: "Our Emmie waited for me to come home for one last snuggle," reports The Mirror.
"Her last words: 'I'm ready to hang up now.'" She added: "She was 96, an orphan, a nurse, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, the oldest woman on TV, a great-grandmother, an author and so much more. Thank you for loving her as much as we did and will forever. Have a big rest now - you deserve it. Xxxxx."
Co-stars have rushed to offer their condolences, with Lee of Lee and Keith saying: "Our hearts are so heavy with sadness. Emmie was our adopted grandmother to Keith and I as we lost our grandparents years ago.
"You told us so many stories about your life and now they are memories for us to keep. Rest in peace, sweetheart, you'll never be far from our hearts. Love ya Emm."
Angie Kent typed: "Beautiful Emmie. Words can't describe what you meant to so many of us. Thank you for the countless laughs, tears, goosebumps and memories! Rest now. Your girls are so loved and looked after."
Meanwhile, Weekend Sunrise star Lisa Wilkinson said: "I'm so sad to hear the news Isabelle. What a beautiful, talented, giving soul she was, and so loved by us all. I hope she knew that. Glad you got that last snuggle. Sending love to you and your wonderful mum."
Make-up artist Kellsie Bain commented: "Sorry to hear. Thinking of you and your mum, especially. It was a pleasure getting to do emmies make up, I'm having a giggle over her taking the hotel biscuits and teabags home."
Married At First Sight's Jules Robinson also offered her condolences, saying: "I'm so sorry for your loss. I loved when I met her, she was so fabulous and welcomed This crazy woman all excited to meet her! I LOVED your book together and her stories of growing up.. She will be so missed. What an amazing life."
Emmie joined the programme in season three, alongside her daughter Kerry and Isabelle, filmed from their home in Melbourne. But Emmie stepped down from the show in 2023 at the start of season 17 after being diagnosed with dementia. She later moved into a care home.
Kerry and her daughter Isabelle were eventually joined by Isabelle's daughter, Ruby, for their final appearance in 2024 before the family left the show.
During an appearance on The Project, Kerry and Isabelle opened up about Emmie's diagnosis, with Kerry saying the "hardest part" was informing her mum that she wouldn't appear on the show anymore.
She said: "She said why not, and we said you've got dementia and she said I'm perfectly alright, there's nothing wrong with me, I'm not ga-ga." Isabelle added: "This is real life. Emmie is no longer able to do the show, and we wanted to be really transparent about that and not have her disappear off the couch."
The mother and daughter made the decision to leave the chair Emmie sat on in the shot while they filmed from their home in her honour. Isabelle later became emotional as she recalled the "long goodbye" due to her nan's dementia battle.
She said: "Sometimes I really wish that she'd just go, because she's not the same. It's just really hard." Dementia is a neurological condition which impacts memory, thinking and behaviour. While there is no cure for the sad condition, there are medical interventions which can help slow down the progression.

Both teenagers at the time, they met when 1D returned to perform on the ITV singing contest that her band Little Mix went onto win. Just months later, the young stars were a fully fledged couple, sharing sweet selfies from places like Disneyland. But it was never plain sailing as Zayn was alleged to have cheated with an Australian waitress in a London club, and was later hit with more claims of infidelity. In 2013, he demonstrated his commitment by getting a portrait of Perrie tattooed on his arm and even bought her mum a house in Dorset. But in 2015, they split — and she was left devastated, with reports at the time that he had ended their almost four-year romance by text. The ordeal inspired one of Little Mix's biggest hits, the chart-topping Shout Out To My Ex. 'TOXIC' RELATIONSHIP Now 32, the mother-of-one, who is happily engaged to her fiancé, footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. has discussed her "toxic" relationship with Zayn. Speaking on this week's Paul C. Brunson's We Need To Talk podcast, she said: 'I think definitely, at the time, I thought everything we experienced in our relationship was normal. Because it was my first relationship, first love. 'I was like, 'Oh, this is how it's supposed to feel. It's supposed to feel a little bit toxic. In some ways, this is probably normal, right?'. Brave Perrie Edwards reveals devastating miscarriage at six months & shares heart-breaking detail of how she'd already planned baby's bedroom 'And then, when I became single, I was almost thinking, 'I never, ever want to go through that again'. I didn't even want to meet anybody. I was like, that's me done. I don't think I could bear that pain. 'But now, I'm thinking, 'Oh, that probably wasn't good'. And I've noticed it a lot." Perrie also talked about how her past pain affected the early days of her relationship with Alex, who she started dating in 2017 - two years after her Zayn split. 'Like in the start of the relationship, I would handle things differently with Alex, and he'd come at it with such a level head that it would throw me," she said. On what kind of man Alex is, Perrie continued: 'He's very mature. He's very laid back. He's very level-headed. "He's not the type to get mad or get angry or get funny about things. It might sound boring to some, but it's so unproblematic.' 6 Perrie was left 'devastated' by her break-up with Zayn Credit: Instagram 6 The star said she felt 'uncomfortable' when Zayn got in touch with her Credit: Getty ZAYN GETS IN TOUCH Following his split from Gigi, Perrie said Zayn got back in touch with her - something that left her "uncomfortable", especially when she had to tell Alex. She shared: 'My ex reached out and I didn't know how to handle the situation. I'd only been with Alex like a year and a half, two years. And I felt a bit uncomfortable about it. 'And I remember sweating and panicking, thinking, 'I've got to tell him that obviously I've spoken to him.' And I would be terrified... And he was like, 'Okay, well, I really appreciate you telling me, thank you for letting me know. That's fine. Like, hopefully he doesn't contact you again.' 'And I was thinking, 'Okay, cool. That's it.'' HAPPILY EVER AFTER Perrie is now embracing life as a wife-to-be, and a mother-of-one. The singer and her fiance Alex welcomed their son Axel, four, in 2021, and the pair are enjoying being parents. The footballer asked Perrie to marry him in 2022, when he got down on one knee on holiday. The happy couple have been together since November 2016, although they didn't make their relationship public until February 2017.

The star believes she was 'lovebombed' in her new romance SPLIT HEARTBREAK MAFS star 'heartbroken and devastated' as she's dumped via text after whirlwind romance MARRIED At First Sight UK star Marylise Corrigan has split from her new love after believing she had finally found The One. The reality star went public with her new romance in September last year, telling fans that she had 'found happiness' after suffering heartbreak on the main series. 6 Marylise has split from her new romance after a year of dating Credit: Instagram 6 The star previously admitted that she feared being on MAFS 'attracted the wrong men Credit: Instagram Advertisement 6 Marylise was matched on the show with Franky Spencer, but they split after the show finished Credit: Instagram / Franky Spencer However, just a year later, Marylise and her mystery man, who was not part of the reality world, have gone their separate ways. A source told The Sun Online: "Marilyse is really upset and can't believe she's ended up single again. "She was dumped over text after falling head over heels. Advertisement "It was a whirlwind romance and in hindsight she feels she was love bombed." 'Lovebombing' is a term used to describe those who try to win over someone's affections by quickly showering them with excessive gestures – including compliments, gifts and declarations of love – in order to 'secure' the person's trust and love. In many cases, lovebombing results in an intense emotional attachment, which some use to then manipulate or control the person involved. Marylise first shot into the public eye by participating in the sixth series of the E4 reality show in 2021. Advertisement She was matched by the experts with Franky Spencer, a former soldier and a strength and conditioning coach. Despite ups and downs, the pair confirmed their vows in the final episode and planned to move forward together away from the programme, but split four months later after their romance "dried up" and they became "more like friends". Marilyse told The Sun at the time: 'A few weeks after the reunion we went our separate ways, we didn't even fall out, we just mutually agreed that maybe we were not each other's future. Married At First Sight's Franky tells Marilyse When I speak you don't speak. 'It's really sad as we got on really well and Franky has a heart of gold but outside the experiment, I had to think, 'Do I want to be with this person forever?'" Marylise then went on to date Matt Murray, 34, a groom who took part in the MAFS experiment in 2022, and had famously ditched his bride for another on the programme. Advertisement However, after just six months together they split as well, with Marylise later explaining it felt "too intense". When Marylise went public with her new romance in 2024, she declared she had "found happiness" with the mystery man, posting pictures of them on holiday together. "When you've been on a TV show people think that you're going to be really high maintenance", she said. "They think that you're going to have high expectations, that you're all about the glitz and glam, when actually, I'm completely the opposite. "Yes, I like to go out to an event every few months but I'm totally down to earth and normal. Advertisement "And I think that being on a TV show means you do attract the wrong kind of people as well." 6 Marylise and Franky split after 'becoming more like friends Credit: Channel 4 6 Marylise later dated 2022 groom, Matt Murray
