Notre Dame gets key commitment
Notre Dame has gotten a commitment from forward Carson Towt.
Towt will be leaving Northern Arizona to join the Fighting Irish. The Gilbert, Arizona native had played at Northern Arizona for four seasons.
Towt led the nation in rebounding this year, averaging 12.4 per game. He had 13.3 points per game and 3.4 assists per game last season.
He had a bounce-back year last season after not playing due to injury in 2023-2024.
Towt stands 5'8" and weighs 235 pounds, and he shot 56.9 from the field last year. He does struggle a bit from the free-throw line, and he's never attempted a three-point,

FIW Roundtable: Which Notre Dame offensive player we believe breaks out this fall
With Notre Dame football's fall camp underway, it's pretty easy to look ahead to what could be in store for the Irish in 2025. They'll enter the year with massive expectations, many pundits expecting another berth into the College Football Playoff. The schedule is front loaded, opening on road against Miami, then hosting Texas A&M, both ranked opponents. For Notre Dame to make a return trip to the CFP, they'll need some players to step up and fill voids that were stalwarts last year. The Fighting Irish Wire crew of Tim Healey, Dave Miller and Michael Chen will make their best guesses over the course of the next few weeks as to what this Notre Dame season will show us. Let's start off with who we believe will be a breakout player on offense. Tim Healey - contributor Is it a breakout if Jeremiyah Love does what he did last year, and then some? OK, fine, I guess I have to pick someone who wasn't one of last year's stars. I'm inclined to think that whoever wins the quarterback battle might be the breakout star. Easy answer, I know, but both CJ Carr and Kenny Minchey could be that guy. Carr seems to pass the eye test, and Minchey has knowledge of the offense and running ability. Another possible breakout is wide receiver Jaden Greathouse. He had a solid year last year, but if the new passer is a success, he could take a leap forward. If he does, that would be huge. Notre Dame's passing game wasn't exactly bad last year, but it wasn't as consistently effective as the ground game. If the passing game becomes as much of a threat as the running game, the Irish might be even better in 2025 than in 2024 which is why I'm taking Greathouse. Dave Miller - contributor There probably weren't a ton of college football observers who thought Kenny Minchey would push CJ Carr for the starting quarterback job, but here we are. Fighting Irish head coach Marcus Freeman is expected to decide on a starter coming out of Notre Dame's scrimmage this weekend, and I still ultimately think Carr will be the guy and have success with his surrounding playmakers in this offense. But picking a quarterback is the easy way out. So I'm also going with Greathouse, who finished the 2024 season with two consecutive 100-yard receiving games and three touchdowns. The rising junior shined during the College Football Playoff run, and he has a chance to be a matchup nightmare if he's lined up in the slot. Bringing in Virginia transfer Malachi Fields to the receiving room was huge for this offense, but he's already a proven commodity. Greathouse has a chance to become a household name starting with the season opener at Miami. Michael Chen - site lead While I think that Greathouse is a great pick to breakout, he just seems like the obvious choice to me, so I'm staying away from picking him. There are more than a few others that I considered, like offensive lineman Will Black (too young), wide receiver Will Pauling (new to scheme), running back Aneyas Williams (not enough playing time), but eventually settled on offensive lineman Guerby Lambert. Isn't not a sexy choice, but it's looking like he's playing himself into a starting spot after entering the program as one of the top offensive lineman in the 2024 cycle. Lambert got his feet wet last fall, and while it was a redshirt year, it was put to good use. Getting on the field during the CFP was great, even though it was just on special teams. While offensive lineman coach Joe Rudolph hasn't named his starters yet, the chip above shows him with the starting group. There isn't as much experience with this group as there was last year, and someone will have to step up with the injury to Charles Jagusah. My bet is on Lambert. Several players who stood out in recent Texas A&M practice video
Entering Thursday, Texas A&M's nine remaining preseason practices present an opportunity to continue improving before the 2025 season-opener against UTSA on Saturday, August 30. So far, so good, as the offense, led by starting quarterback Marcel Reed, who has continued to improve as a passer, while the secondary, specifically the revamped cornerback room, has also been under the radar. On Thursday, the Aggie media team released a video of what looked to be the latest practice closed off from the media, featuring an 11 11 run-through that included several interesting notes, starting with two changes on the offensive line that could come to fruition at some point during the 2025 campaign. In the video, senior left tackle Trey Zuhn is seen taking snaps at center. At the same time, center Kolinu'u Faaiu also reps at guard, which proves that coach Mike Elko and OL coach Adam Cushing have continued experimenting across the offensive line this month. However, Marcel Reed's connection with the revamped wide receiver room has continued, as the redshirt sophomore connected with new wide receivers KC Concepcion, Ashton Bethel-Roman, and Izaiah Williams, while freshman running back Jamarion Morrow also reached the endzone. For Bethel-Roman and Morrow, the proverbial drumbeat has only gotten louder with 15 days before the opener. At cornerback, thanks to GigEm247 beat writer Carter Karels for his keen eye, cornerbacks Will Lee III, Georgia transfer Julian Humphrey, and junior CB Jayvon Thomas all stepped up, as Lee and Thomas both reeled in interceptions, while Humphrey recorded a pass breakup. Texas A&M will not hold another scrimmage after last Saturday's event, but will have a mock game-like practice next Thursday as one of the final preseason practices before game week arrives. 274Sports releases player ratings for two notable Wisconsin basketball freshmen
247Sports released its player ratings for international prospects in the class of 2025 on Thursday. Wisconsin basketball's class of recently-signed freshmen, consisting of four total signees, includes two notable newly-rated prospects. Those are: shooting guard Hayden Jones (New Zealand) and power forward Aleksas Bieliauskas (Lithuania). Jones, first, is listed as a four-star prospect. 247Sports specifically ranks him as the No. 146 overall player in the class, the No. 24 shooting guard and the No. 17 international prospect. Bieliauskas joins Jones as a four-star. He's specifically slotted as the No. 161 overall player in the class, No. 37 power forward and No. 19 international prospect. The two blue-chip international prospects join in-state shooting guard Zach Kinziger and center Will Garlock in Wisconsin's class of 2025. That incoming group of four players joins a loaded transfer class of San Diego State guard Nick Boyd, Portland forward Austin Rapp, Virginia shooting guard Andrew Rohde, Tulsa guard Braeden Carrington and Temple forward Elijah Gray. Jones and Bieliauskas weren't the biggest additions of Wisconsin's offseason. However, the two could have an instant impact when the 2025-26 season tips off. The Badgers appear strong in the starting lineup, though they should have significant bench minutes up for grabs.
