Ludhiana: Man hurls petrol bomb at house in Satjot Nagar, scooter damaged
According to Sakshi Pahuja, the complainant in the case, Daljit Singh, a resident of Kotmangal Singh, Shimlapuri, is suspected to have thrown the burning bottle into her home's courtyard around 11.45 pm while the family was asleep. No injuries were reported. 'As soon as the bottle hit the ground, it exploded into flames, igniting the area and setting our new TVS Jupiter scooter on fire,' she told the police.
The family members rushed outside on hearing the noise and saw the scooter engulfed in flames. They immediately called the police control room.
ASI Ashwani Kumar, who is investigating the case, stated that an FIR has been lodged under Sections 326 (G) (mischief by injury, inundation, fire or explosive substance, etc), 351(1) and (3) (criminal intimidation), and 324(4) (5) (mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Man arrested for alleged attempt to extort and defame actor-director Balachandra Menon
The Kochi City Cyber Crime police have arrested a man accused in the case registered in connection with an alleged attempt to extort actor-director Balachandra Menon and tarnish him over social media. The arrested was identified as Sangeeth Luis, 46, a native of Kundara in Kollam and now residing at Ayyanthole in Thrissur. The police said he was an accused in several cases. He was under the surveillance of the police for a while and was arrested in the early-morning hours of Thursday (August 7, 2025). The incident pertaining to the case took place last September. He was declared an offender under the Kerala Anti-social Activities (Prevention) Act and arrested on preventive grounds by the Kundara police in 2023, the police said. The police had arrested the other accused in the case, actor Minnu Muneer, 45, after she surrendered at the station on June 30, 2025. She surrendered at the Cyber Crime police station after the Kerala High Court dismissed her anticipatory bail plea and directed her to appear before the police. Later, she was released on bail as per the direction of the High Court. The case was registered on October 2, 2024. The accused were booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 351(2) (criminal intimidation), the IT Act Sections 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form), and the Kerala Police Act 120 (o) (causing, through any means of communication, a nuisance of himself to any person by repeated or undesirable or anonymous call, letter, writing, message, e-mail or through a messenger). According to the FIR, Ms. Muneer consistently made derogatory posts against the petitioner, posted the photo of the petitioner and instigated vulgar comments. The second accused allegedly made threatening calls to the petitioner on September 13 and 14, 2024. The alleged posts came shortly after the release of the Hema Committee report on the alleged atrocities against woman in the film industry.

DNA test to establish paternity of teen rape survivor's baby
Deoria (UP): A 15-year-old rape survivor in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria district has given birth to a baby girl and the police on Wednesday said they have initiated process for a DNA test to determine the baby's father. The accused, Shashikant Kumar Gaur, has been arrested and sent to jail. The incident took place eight months ago when the accused allegedly raped the minor from a village under Surauli police station and threatened to kill her if she spoke out. The family learned of the pregnancy later, officials said. An FIR under sections 64 (rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and under provisions of the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered on July 23, 2025, leading to the arrest of Gaur, a local, a senior police officer said. 'Three days ago, the minor's condition worsened, resulting in her hospitalisation at the Maharishi Devraha Baba Medical College where she gave birth to a healthy baby girl,' Deoria Superintendent of Police Vikrant Veer said. The officer said while the accused is in jail, the DNA test process has begun to legally establish the child's paternal identity. Further action will proceed with court approval, the district police chief said. Both mother and child are said to be in stable condition, police informed.

Tajpuriya gang shooter arrested after encounter
New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested a member of Tillu Tajpuriya gang in Delhi's Sarojini Nagar after a brief ex-change of fire, an official said on Wednesday. According to police, Manjit alias Dada was wanted in a murder case registered against him in Alipur. The accused was arrested for killing Karan Thapa, a known associate of the rival Gogi gang, who was gunned down in Alipur on March 28, 2025. Based on inputs about Manjeet's movements, police laid a trap in Sarojini Nagar. 'When the police team intercepted him, he tried to flee and opened fire. In retaliation, the team also fired a few rounds, leading to his capture,' a senior police officer said. He said that no injuries were reported on either side during the encounter. Manjeet, who is a history sheeter, has at least six previous cases including attempt to murder, extor-tion, and Arms Act violations, registered against him. He had been evading arrest since the Alipur murder, police added. A case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Arms Act has been registered and further investigation is underway. In another incident, a 62-year-old woman died after being hit by an autorickshaw in southeast Del-hi's Dakshinpuri area, police has said. The driver of the vehicle fled the spot and is yet to be traced, he said, adding that a PCR call reporting an accident was received at the Ambedkar Nagar police station at 7.23 am on Monday. When the police team reached the spot, they found an abandoned auto-rickshaw at the site. It was learnt that the injured woman had already been shifted to a nearby hospital by her son-in-law, a sen-ior police officer said The woman was identified as Alia Begum, wife of Isteyak, and a resident of Dakshinpuri. She was admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre where she was declared unfit for statement, police said. Based on the initial findings, an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was regis-tered at Ambedkar Nagar police station.
