My focus is on the internal journey: Manushi Chillar

Hindustan Times11-07-2025
Mumbai, Manushi Chhillar says more than box office success, her focus is on internal growth as an actor. My focus is on the internal journey: Manushi Chillar
Chhillar, who stars opposite Rajkummar Rao in the upcoming film "Maalik", is known for her role in movies such as 'Samrat Prithviraj', 'The Great Indian Family', 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan', and 'Operation Valentine'.
'My focus is on the internal journey, rather than what happens at the box office. When an audience reacts to your film in a certain way, it gives you an idea, a different perspective, and sometimes that might be useful in understanding whether there's something you should be doing differently or trying something differently.
"So, that's the sort of feedback is great to have. But the box office number of a film, I don't think, has ever made me make a different choice in my life,' Chillar told PTI in an interview.
The action thriller, directed by filmmaker Pulkit of 'Bhakshak' fame, features the former Miss World in the role of a small town woman.
"Because people have seen you in a certain avatar that you'll be presented visually, they might feel that's the space you want to be in... If you want to choose to do different kinds of roles, then it's great to pursue them and show that interest. I was not the natural choice for something like this . Fortunately, it happened at the right time in my life when I was seeking something very similar to what I've done in 'Maalik'," Chhillar told PTI in an interview.
In the movie, set in the backdrop of Allahabad of the 80s, the actor said she was required to have an in-depth understanding of her character, Shalini, who is Rao's love interest. Besides, she also had to adopt the mannerisms and language of the heartland of India.
'Maalik' boasts of talented actors such as Saurabh Shukla, Saurabh Sachdeva, Prosenjit Chatterjee, and Swanand Kirkire.
Produced by Kumar Taurani under the Tips Films banner and Jay Shewakramani's Northern Lights Films, the movie is set to be released in cinemas on July 11.

The Maharashtra tehsildar was suspended after a video of him singing a Bollywood song at his office went viral. (This is an AI generated representational image). (Grok) What does the video show? The tehsildar, Prashant Thorat, was recorded singing 'Yara Teri Yari Ko,' a hit track from the1981 Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Yaarana. A video of the moment showed Thorat singing the song with those around him clapping. The footage also captured a board behind Thorat with the words 'taluka magistrate' written on it. Slammed on social media: On July 30, he was transferred to Renapur in neighbouring Latur from Umri in the Nanded district. Since both areas are in the same division, he took charge of his new posting the same day. Thorat sang the song at his send-off party, which was organised on August 8 in Umri. The video of the farewell, once shared on the internet, didn't sit well with social media users. Many slammed Thorat, claiming that singing songs while sitting in the official chair is inappropriate and undermines the seriousness of his position. What happened next? In light of the controversy, the Nanded collector shared a report with the higher authorities about the matter. It stated that Thorat's conduct had tarnished the administration's image and violated the Maharashtra Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1979. According to an official, Divisional Commissioner of Revenue Jitendra Papalkar acted on the report and ordered Thorat's suspension. (With inputs from PTI)

Nandotsav rituals mark Lord Krishnas birth at temples in Mathura, Vrindavan

Mathura (UP), Aug 17 (PTI) Temples in Mathura and Vrindavan on Sunday reverberated with festivities as they celebrated Nandotsav, a celebration marking the joy on Lord Krishna's birth held a day after Janmashtami. Gyanendra Kishor Goswami, a priest at the Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan, said expressions of joy form an integral part of devotion in the Brijbhoomi. 'A mixture of curd and turmeric is used to symbolise infant Krishna's mischief. In a ritual known as 'dadhikandha', this mixture is playfully thrown on the devotees," Goswami said. During the celebrations, toys, clothes, jewellery and money were flung from the sanctum sanctorum for the devotees to collect as 'prasad', a tradition commemorating Nand Baba's delight at Lord Krishna's birth, he added. Earlier in the day, a 'Mangl Aarti' was performed at the Banke Bihari temple after the ceremonial 'Mahaabhishek'. At the Shri Krishna Janmasthan in Mathura, the Bhagwat Bhavan was decorated as Nand Bhawan, which echoed with chants of 'Nand ghar anand bhayo, jai Kanhaiya Lal ki' along with devotional songs. Kapil Sharma, secretary of the Shri Krishna Janmasthan Seva Sansthan, said toys, clothes, sweets and utensils were distributed among the devotees as prasad. Similar rituals were held at Vrindavan's Sapt Devalaya. At the Dwarkadhish temple, the deities were adorned as Nand Baba and Ma Yashoda. 'The festival reflects the joy of Krishna's parents at his birth. Items are distributed to the devotees on this occasion to share the happiness," Rakesh Tiwari, the temple's media and legal advisor, said. Rs 90L in subsidies, but artisans still struggle with rising costs

(PTI Photo)(PTI08_13_2025_000314B) Karad: An artist gives finishing touches to an idol of Lord Ganesha ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi festival, in Karad, Maharashtra. (PTI Photo) (PTI08_08_2025_000137B) Despite the corporation's subsidy scheme, traditional idol makers struggle with rising costs, insufficient aid, and labour shortages. Morajkar said the survey to identify PoP idol sales began on Aug 8, and so far, GHRSSIDC's inspection has flagged none. He said that the inspection will continue until Aug 24. 'Local mud clay idols are the customer's first choice, due to our awareness campaigns. The Shadu Mati and coconut fibre idols from Maharashtra are in demand, but not as much as the local clay ones,' Morajkar told TOI . GHRSSIDC offers a subsidy of Rs 250 per idol for up to 250 idols to the local idol makers. As of July 2025, GHRSSIDC received 367 local vendor applications for registration. In 2024, 475 vendors received subsidies totalling Rs 90.5 lakh on the sale of 45,248 idols, Morajkar said. Pernem, Sattari, and Bicholim talukas have the highest concentration of traditional idol makers in Goa. 'Earlier, we used to get the Chikal Mati at Rs 20,000 for a 10m truck. Now, the prices have risen to Rs 25,000,' said Bicholim sculptor Durgaram Shet. Local artisans allege the PoP idol ban is not strictly enforced. The clay idols are heavier, with rich colours being another distinguishing feature. Umakant Poke, a third-generation sculptor from Morjim, said that because certain vendors sell PoP idols, local sculptors catch negative attention from handicraft officials. 'They think we are selling PoP idols. We are trying to earn money with our honest efforts,' Poke said. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
