South Range High School Raiders softball preview
In the Regional Final, the Raiders got by Champion – 1-0 – in 8 innings on a Giada Pauline inside the park-home run. Six days later, in the State Semifinal, South Range's bats came to play as they overwhelmed South Webster – 11-4.
'Come off that appearance, we expect to get back into the regionals,' says coach Jeff DeRose. 'Our hitting will be a strength for us this year; we're not the most 'fleet-footed' team but we're aggressive on the base paths. Our pitching is deep and pretty darn good.'
In the center, pitching will be Jayli Wilt (.375 BA, 11 2Bs, 30 RBIs). In the outfield, folks will see Solena DeJesus (.445 BA, 15 2Bs, 36 RBIs) and Giada Pauline (.387 BA, 38 RBIs). Anna Aey (.400 BA, 9 HRs, 15 2Bs, 44 RBIs) will be playing at the corner in the infield. With Keira Brogan (.508 BA, 19 2Bs, 6 3Bs, 3 HRs, 33 RBIs) not expected to play this spring with an injury; look for her younger sister Sophia to take over at shortstop. Addison Wardle is back in the fold at second base while junior newcomers Gabby Spooner will play outfield as well as third base.
South Range begins their quest on March 25 versus Lakeview.

Boys' soccer Top 10: Herndon closes at No. 1 after state title
Herndon started the spring as the No. 5 team in The Washington Post's boys' soccer rankings before a frustrating 4-4 start had the Hornets searching for answers. Slowly but surely, a team that had graduated 12 seniors from last year's state semifinal squad found what it was looking for. A tactical tweak and a mental shift put the Hornets in a better place, and they only grew in confidence as positive results started to pour in.
