2 more Chinese rakes come to help Purple, Orange lines
Kolkata: After Dalian, Kolkata Metro now boasts of Zhuzhou rakes. Six years after the city got its first foreign rake from CNR Dalian Locomotive & Rolling Stock Co, another Chinese manufacturer has forayed into Kolkata Metro with arrival of two rakes from China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) Zhuzhou Locomotive Company. Unlike Dalian rakes, which have been shipped since March 2019 from the Chinese manufacturer's own stable to Kolkata Port, the Zhuzhou rakes are assembled at the Indian Railway-owned Integral Coach Factory, Perambur near Chennai. Six more such state-of-the-art rakes with propulsion systems manufactured in China will arrive next year to expand and modernise city's Metro network. "The Zhuzhou rakes' propulsion system is from China. The rakes are being assembled in ICF," a senior Metro Railway official told TOI. The propulsion system in a modern metro rake is an energy-efficient, three-phase drive system with Variable Voltage Variable Frequency (VVVF) control. The devices can store the braking energy and reuse it in the acceleration phases. Metro Railway placed orders for eight rakes from Zhuzhou. The two that have arrived will be tested as prototypes first (undergoing oscillation and other safety examinations) before being inducted into Metro's fleet. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo "The rakes will be commissioned for the Purple and Orange lines," the Metro official said. The city's Metro line, spanning 61 km across Blue (North-South), Green (East-West Metro), Purple, and Orange lines, is reeling under a rake shortage. The Purple and Orange lines only have two and three rakes each. These are actually old Medha rakes, upgraded to automatic communication-based train control signalling. One of the two rakes developed a serious snag, forcing Metro to reduce services on June 2 and 3.

Caught on Flightradar: Did China secretly send weapons to Iran? 3 mysterious cargo planes spark global alarm
Only a day after Israel launched attacks on Iran, a Boeing 747 freighter plane departed from China, the following day, another left from a coastal Chinese city, and then on Monday, a third plane took off from Shanghai, raising concerns that China might be sending weapons to Iran, as per a report. Chinese Flights That Disappeared The three flights that flew in the three consecutive days, which were Boeing 747 freighters, are commonly employed to carry heavy-duty military equipment under government contracts, according to The Telegraph. All three flights took very similar paths, flying west over northern China, crossing into Kazakhstan, then curving south into Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, and then falling off the radar as it neared Iran, reported The Telegraph. The concerns over what might have been sent from China in the direction of Iran increased as the flight plan indicated that each plane was bound for Luxembourg, but none of the planes were even spotted anywhere near Europe, according to The Telegraph report. ALSO READ: With heat advisory extended, Southern Californians urged to stay cool as outdoor areas are closed off China-Iran Strategic Ties A lecturer at the University of Exeter who specialises in China's relations with the Middle East and North Africa, Andrea Ghiselli pointed out that, 'These cargos cannot but generate a lot of interest because of the expectation that China might do something to help Iran,' quoted The Telegraph. Live Events The doubts arise as China and Iran are strategic partners, who are aligned in their opposition to the US-led world order, and in favour of a new 'multi-polar' phase in global diplomacy, as per the report. While, Iran is also one of China's main energy suppliers, as it sends about two million barrels of oil a day, which might have led Beijing to find ways to support and stabilise the Islamic Republic, according to The Telegraph. Ghiselli explained that, 'The collapse of the current regime would be a significant blow and would generate a lot of instability in the Middle East, ultimately undermining Chinese economic and energy interests,' as quoted in the report. He added that, 'Moreover, in Iran there are probably many that are expecting some kind of help from China,' quoted The Telegraph. The Big Unknown However, it is not possible to know exactly what the cargo planes were carrying unless an independent inspections is done, according to the report. While some of the aircraft which flew later appear to take off from around the same area along the Turkmenistan-Iran border, and go toward Luxembourg, The Telegraph reported, citing publicly available flight data. FAQs Why are these flights raising concerns? Because they vanished from radar near Iran, used large cargo planes suited for military transport, and claimed destinations (Luxembourg) that they reportedly never reached. What kind of aircraft were involved? All three were Boeing 747 freighters, often used in transporting military-grade cargo and government shipments.

Poco F7 Set to Launch in India on June 24 with Big Battery and Fast Chip
The Poco F7 will launch in India on June 24, 2025. Before the official launch, new leaks have shared some important details, including the possible price. A well-known source, Yogesh Brar, says the phone might cost between ₹30,000 and ₹35,000. Poco has not confirmed this yet, but the price matches what they charged for earlier models like the F6, F5, and F4. Poco usually sells its F-series phones as fast and powerful models at lower prices. Since other brands like iQOO and OnePlus also have strong phones under ₹35,000, Poco is likely to keep the F7 affordable. Battery and Charging The Poco F7 phone is already listed on Flipkart. One features that is making people talk about this phone is its huge 7,550mAh battery. Being touted as one of the biggest battery ever in an Indian smartphone, Poco says the battery can last for more than 2 days with normal use. The phone uses new battery technology called silicon-carbon, which helps it support 90W fast charging. It also has 22.5W reverse charging, meaning you can use it to charge other devices like a power bank. If this is true, the Poco F7 will overtake phones like the iQOO Z10 and Vivo T4 in terms of battery size. But it's still not clear if the phone will feel heavy or bulky because of the big battery. Speed and Performance The Poco F7 is expected to come with the new Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 processor by Qualcomm. A test on Geekbench (a website for phone speed scores) shows the phone may have this chip and 12GB of RAM in one version. This chip is made for fast performance. In tests, it seems to work almost as well as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which is found in top-end phones. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 focuses more on multi-core speed, meaning it can handle many apps or tasks at once. But since it skips small energy-saving cores, it may not save as much battery. If Poco keeps the price around ₹30,000, this phone could be one of the fastest in its price range. Display, Storage, and Camera The Poco F7 might actually be a rebranded version of the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro, which came out in China. If that's true, the F7 will have a 6.83-inch AMOLED screen, 1.5K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and IP68 rating, which means it's water and dust resistant. The phone may offer up to 1TB of storage and 16GB of RAM. For photos, the leaks say it could have a 50MP main camera, an 8MP wide-angle camera, and a 20MP front camera for selfies and video calls. Final Thoughts With the launch happening soon, fans will find out how much of this is true. If the price and features are as good as the leaks suggest, the Poco F7 could be a great option for anyone looking for a powerful phone at a mid-range price.
