QRCS launches campaign to deliver Udhiya sacrificial meat to poor families during Eid Al Adha
Under the slogan 'Udhiyah Is Blessing', this seasonal project is aimed at delivering Udhiya sacrificial meat to the poorest families during Eid Al Adha, with a view to promoting human unity and social solidarity.
A QRCS statement said that all necessary arrangements have been made to receive donations for the available sacrificial sheep, goats, and cows. Then, the donated sacrificial animals will be secured during the project's duration, and the slaughter process will be carried out in accordance with health regulations and within the Shariah-specified timeframe. Lastly, the meat will be distributed as food rations to 271,000 most vulnerable beneficiaries.
Secretary-General of QRCS Faisal Mohamed Al Emadi explained that this campaign was part of QRCS's ongoing efforts to support poor communities and meet their needs during specific seasons of charity, eagerly awaited by hundreds of thousands of poor people, especially in countries suffering from the scourge of displacement and refugee influx due to disasters and crises. He emphasized that the campaign would be implemented up to the highest standards of quality and transparency, expressing thanks to RACA and the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs for their effective role in making this campaign happen and facilitating all administrative and organizing procedures, while thanking everyone who helped them bring the joy of Eid to the hearts of those in need during such a spiritual religious time.
In response to the harsh humanitarian conditions experienced by the people of Gaza, a special section of the campaign involves the donation of one whole cow (equal to seven sacrificial shares) for only QR 3,360. The slaughter process will take place during the four days of Eid Al Adha, and the meat will be canned for easy preservation, transportation, and storage. This will help maintain the quality and shelf life of the canned meat until access to the blockade is possible.
Every year since 2017, QRCS has been implementing the Adahi campaign, designed to enable the public to observe the ritual Udhiya sacrifice offering. Upon receiving the donations, QRCS ensures the delivery of the meat of donated Udhiya sacrificial animals to those in need, in cooperation with local and international partners.
This year's campaign involves 14 countries — Qatar, Jordan, Syria, Palestine (Gaza), Yemen, Mauritania, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Djibouti, Sudan, Niger, Chad, Tanzania, and Somalia.

QRCS continues to support Yemen's water sector
Tribune News Network Doha The representation office of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) in Yemen has completed a project to dig boreholes and construct water tanks in the towns of Lawdar and Mudiyah, Abyan Governorate. Aimed at securing clean water for 23,200 people, the project had a total cost of $413,115, funded from the giving of benevolent Qatari donors. It involved digging four boreholes, installing solar-powered pumping systems, constructing four 27 cubic metre concrete water storage tanks, building control rooms to manage and operate borehole components, and extending 3,926-metre water supply networks connecting boreholes and tanks. During the technical procedures to hand the project's outcomes over to the local communities and competent authorities, Gamal Alala, director-general of Lawdar, expressed his great happiness with the project: 'With generous support from QRCS, we are inaugurating Lawdar water well, Shabiba borehole, and two water tanks. These projects ensure the sustainable provision of water for 10 remote villages that have been underserved for decades, and the population had to suffer a lot to get water'. Ali Harbaji, director-general of Mudiyah, considered the project a significant development for the two beneficiary localities. 'For many years, these areas have been suffering from water scarcity and inadequate services infrastructure,' he commented. 'We appreciate the efforts of QRCS to support humanitarian and development projects and help rural communities live with dignity. This achievement has put an end to many years of suffering and addressed the needs of more than 3,000 people in five villages'. In a statement, Eng. Ahmed Hassan Al-Sharaji, head of QRCS's office in Yemen, revealed the volume of relief and development water-related interventions done since 2020: 'There are 352 surface water wells and 21 boreholes dug, rehabilitated, and operated, at a total cost of over $3.5 million (some QR13 million), as part of 10 projects implemented over the past five years'. He added, 'In coordination with the competent authorities, we managed to provide clean water for 370,581 people, mostly in remote, underserved, and desperate villages across 59 districts in 11 governorates, as follows: Taiz, Dhale, Al-Hudaydah, Raymah, Sa'dah, Al-Jawf, Ibb, Al-Mahwit, Hajjah, Lahij, and Abyan'. Al-Sharaji highlighted the importance attached to the water sector in QRCS's plans and programs, explaining, 'QRCS's interest in and response to such projects align with its humanitarian priorities, notably easing the water shortage, providing potable water, making it easier to get water, protecting children against falling into open water wells, and preventing the spread of waterborne diseases such as schistosomiasis and cholera'. 'One of the key challenges to the project was the difficult geographical features of several target districts. For example, in Jahaf, Dhale, QRCS's personnel crossed mountainous heights and extremely rugged terrain to construct concrete supports and lay 1,500-metre water supply networks to deliver water to mountainous villages,' he concluded. According to UN reports, Yemen is one of the world's poorest countries in terms of water resources, with more than half of the 30-million population lacking access to safe water, especially in rural areas and remote communities. To help alleviate the water crisis in Yemen, QRCS is launching a project to dig 10 new boreholes, equipped with solar-powered tanks and pumps, to meet the water needs of 35,000 people. Qatar sends 49 aid trucks to Gaza via Egypt and Jordan amid ongoing humanitarian crisis
As part of the State of Qatar's ongoing humanitarian support for the brotherly Palestinian people, 49 trucks loaded with humanitarian aid arrived in the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, provided by the State of Qatar through the Qatar Fund for Development, in cooperation with Qatar Charity and the Qatar Red Crescent Society. The aid will be delivered to the World Food Programme (WFP) for distribution to those in need in the Gaza Strip through the Rafah and Zikim crossings. The aid included 4,704 food parcels allocated to 4,704 families, with a total of more than 28,224 beneficiaries, 200 tons of food baskets targeting approximately 50,000 beneficiaries, 174 tons of flour, allocated to 43,000 beneficiaries and 5,000 units of baby milk, directed to the most needy children. This aid comes amid the catastrophic humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip resulting from the ongoing blockade. Qatari aid convoy enters southern Syria to support local bakeries
A new Qatari aid convoy entered southern Syria from Jordan, comprising 12 trucks carrying 96 tons of flour, as part of the joint humanitarian efforts made by the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Damascus and the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) to support the brethren in Syria. In a statement on Wednesday, QRCS indicated that the shipment will go to local bakeries, to be used in producing and distributing bread in the affected areas. The Syrian Arab Red Crescent Society (SARCS) will be responsible for handing the flour over to the bakeries based on their respective needs. A few days ago, the first batch of aid was deployed by Qatar's Embassy and QRCS to the same area. Qatar is committed to pursuing its humanitarian efforts to secure the basic needs, especially food, bread, and medical supplies, amid the difficult humanitarian conditions facing the affected civilians there.
