Due to Weather, Laguna Seca Schedule Adjusted; Qualifying Up Next
The morning marine layer covering WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca forced NTT INDYCAR SERIES officials to cancel the weekend's second practice and move the third and final practice to later today.
The next session will be qualifying for the NTT P1 Award today at 2:30 p.m. ET on FS1.
The preparation is for Sunday's Java House Grand Prix of Monterey, which will be live at 3 p.m. ET Sunday on FOX, the FOX Sports app and the INDYCAR Radio Network. The 95-lap race will be the 14th of 17 events this season.
Due to the potential weather constraints for Sunday morning, the pre-race warmup practice will be held today at 7 p.m. ET, with live coverage on FS2.
Chip Ganassi Racing's Alex Palou holds a 99-point lead over Arrow McLaren's Pato O'Ward for the season championship. O'Ward had the fastest lap in Friday's practice; Palou's best lap ranked fourth among the 27 car-and-driver combinations.

INDYCAR Power Rankings: It's Alex Palou's World
The run for Pato O'Ward atop these INDYCAR rankings didn't last all that long. It's Alex Palou's world and the rest of the drivers are just living in it, recognizing that they could have an excellent season and still not match Palou. Palou's eight wins give him the chance to clinch the title at the next race in two weeks at Portland. He sits 121 points ahead of O'Ward and needs to leave Portland with a 108-point lead to clinch his fourth championship. Here's how the drivers stack up after the weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca: Dropped out: Rinus VeeKay (Last Week: 10) On the verge: Josef Newgarden, Graham Rahal, Christian Rasmussen 10. David Malukas (Last Week: 8) Malukas had a strong qualifying effort in making the Fast Six but was 13th in the race. That's still two top 10s in his last three starts and no finish worse than 15th since early May for the A.J. Foyt Racing driver. He's 10th in the standings. 9. Felix Rosenqvist (Last Week: 6) Rosenqvist found himself in the barrier in the opening lap after contact from Kyffin Simpson. He wound up 24th. He started 12th, so that can happen in the middle of the pack, but the Meyer Shank driver never got to show what he had. He's sixth in the standings. 8. Will Power (Last Week: Not Ranked) Power started fifth and finished seventh as the top-running Team Penske driver in the race. He's ninth in the standings despite two engine issues in the last month. 7. Kyle Kirkwood (Last Week: 4) Kirkwood had a race to forget, as he was penalized with a stop-and-go for avoidable contact when he got into Rinus VeeKay. He finished 16th and was mathematically eliminated from championship contention. The Andretti driver is still fourth in the standings. 6. Marcus Armstrong (Last Week: 5) Armstrong continues to have a workman-like season, starting 10th and finishing eighth. The Meyer Shank driver has eight top 10s in the last nine races and is eighth in the standings. 5. Colton Herta (Last Week: 9) Herta started third and finished third for his second podium of the season. The Andretti driver now has back-to-back finishes of fourth and third and maybe has found his groove. This could be a little bit late for the 2025 season but still good to see. He is seventh in the series standings. 4. Scott Dixon (Last Week: 3) Dixon was ninth and finished fifth for his sixth top five of the season. A teammate of Palou's at Ganassi and a six-time champion himself, Dixon (third in the standings) was mathematically eliminated from having a shot at the title. 3. Christian Lundgaard (Last Week: 7) Lundgaard's second-place finish was his fifth podium of the season in a year when he still seeks his first win. He ran a solid race but still finished 3.8 seconds behind Palou. The Arrow McLaren driver is fifth in the standings. 2. Pato O'Ward (Last Week: 1) O'Ward wasn't the happiest with his car but still muscled his way to a fourth-place finish. The Arrow McLaren driver is still mathematically alive in the championship hunt, but he is a distant second at 121 points behind Palou. 1. Alex Palou (Last Week: 2) Another pole. Another win. Another race where he earned max points. The Ganassi driver looked pretty much unbeatable on the way to his eighth victory of the year and would need a huge collapse and an O'Ward surge to get beat for the title. Brickyard 400 sees slight attendance dip. Will NASCAR race return to IMS oval? What we know
INDIANAPOLIS — Unsurprisingly, ticket sales for Sunday's Brickyard 400 were down a couple thousand from NASCAR's event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway the year prior. An approximation from just over 70,000 in 2024 to just under 70,000 fans attended Sunday, according to an IMS spokesperson. Down on pit lane in the moments after Sunday's race won by Bubba Wallace that featured a pair of overtimes where the 23XI Racing driver was forced to fend off reigning race-winner Kyle Larson, IMS and IndyCar president Doug Boles guesstimated IMS would end up down 5,000 to 6,000 tickets from 2024 and land around 65,000, but he had yet to see the walk-up numbers, which weren't expected to be spectacular, given the intense heat index, coupled with the lingering weather concerns. The dip, though, comes after the monumental return to the oval for NASCAR in 2024 after three years away while simultaneously celebrating the Brickyard 400's 30th anniversary of its first running — a pair of milestones that, while not exactly having 100th Indy 500-level impacts, were believed to have notably helped the track achieve year-over-year growth for race day (when compared to 2019, the last year NASCAR ran on the oval with fans) for the first time since 2002. Last year's race topped 2018's Brickyard 400 attendance numbers, too, and approached — but didn't nearly reach — 2017 and 2016. In the vein of its approach to the post-2016 Indy 500 era of the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, Boles spoke last year of wanting to keep a significant amount of 'lift' from 2024 to 2025 and then use the latter as a foundation off of which to build from moving forward. He said Sunday he doesn't expect the race to be on anything but the oval track in 2026. 'We just have to keep building it,' he said, hence why it was so important to make a pair of cross-country commercial flights in the span of 36 hours in order to wear both of his hats this weekend. 'From an IndyCar standpoint, I think it just shows that I'm serious about it. By not going, it would have left some doubt, and (the Brickyard 400) is one of our two massive events we have (at IMS). 'I just felt like I needed to be here. NASCAR's been such an awesome partner of ours, so I just wanted to try and manage through both of those.'

Is it going to be one of weekends? As much as I'd love for the championship fight to get tighter, Palou has exceled here. He didn't run away and hide a year ago, but he was clearly the best car from the jump. This year, Palou has won four of the five natural-terrain road-course races — and in the one he didn't (Mid-Ohio), his small silly mistake cost him the win. We haven't gotten a true Alex Palou beatdown of a weekend since the spring, and it feels like we're due. How will Team Penske fare this weekend? I certainly don't expect a win. I think there's an off-chance we get a podium from either Scott McLaughlin or Will Power. I still think we could get a Penske win before the season ends, but not here. Chip Ganassi Racing has won each of the last three trips to the track, and if I'm making predictions, there's no reason to expect that to change unless something odd happens. The Rookie of the Year race couldn't be tighter. Who has the edge between Louis Foster and Robert Shwartzman? Foster has had a better track record both in qualifying performance and consistency, so in a tie with four races to go, I'll give a slight edge to the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing rookie, although I think this very much could be alive until the finale — at an oval, where Prema has gotten the bulk of their strong results this year.
