Bhagyashree was paid 5 times more than Salman Khan for Maine Pyar Kiya, her fees was Rs…, Salman Khan got only Rs..
Back in 1989, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan made a remarkable debut in Sooraj Barjatya's Maine Pyaar Kiya. The actor who headlined the romantic drama, was apparently not the highest-paid member of the cast. In fact, his fees was less than his co-star Bhagyashree. Well, actress Parvien Dastur, who portrayed the role of Seema in the film, made this interesting revelation.
In a conversation with Bollywood Thikana, Parvien revealed, 'I was paid Rs 25,000 and Bhagyashree was the highest paid at that time. She got Rs 1,50,000 and we were all like 'wow'.' She further added, 'Having said that, the production house of Rajshri never gave a lot of money to actors but our cheques always came to our house. We never had to ask for our money. They would never cheat you of your money. There are people in the industry who do not pay and I have worked with people where I was not paid.'
Salman Khan was initially paid Rs 31,000 for his role in Maine Pyar Kiya. However, his renumeration later increased to Rs 75000. The actor once told PTI, 'My first salary was, I think, about Rs 75. I was dancing behind in some show in Taj hotel. One of my friends was dancing there so he took me (and I did it) just for fun. Then it went up to Rs 750 for Campa Cola and then it was Rs 1,500 for the longest time. Then I got paid Rs 31,000 for Maine Pyar Kiya, which was then increased to Rs 75,000 later.'
Maine Pyaar Kiya released in 1989 and also starred Reema Lagoo, Mohnish Bahl and Alok Nath among others. Helmed by Sooraj Barjatya, the film was the highest-grosser of the year and became career-altering project for many involved.
While Khan became a star following Maine Pyaar Kiya's success, Bhagyashree chose to step away from the film industry and got married.

Salman Khan's Sikandar Makers Face Rs 91 Cr Piracy Loss, File Insurance Claim: Report
Last Updated: In a surprising twist, the pirated version of Sikandar contained scenes not included in the final theatrical cut. Salman Khan's latest film Sikandar has suffered a massive financial blow after being leaked online just hours after its release. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the piracy resulted in losses amounting to approximately Rs 91 crore for the production team. An insider told the publication, 'An audit was commissioned to assess the extent of the leak and the resulting impact on revenue. Ernst & Young (EnY) submitted a comprehensive report that pegged the loss at approximately Rs. 91 crore." The audit reportedly measured the difference between projected and actual earnings following the leak. Advanced tracking tools were used to monitor illegal downloads and streams, calculating the financial damage caused to the film's theatrical and digital revenue. 'Such audits often include a blend of data from ticketing platforms, distributor reports, and forensic tracing of piracy dissemination," the source added. 'The Rs. 91 crore figure wasn't arbitrary – it is rooted in a loss of potential theatrical and digital revenue." In a surprising twist, the pirated version of Sikandar contained scenes not included in the final theatrical cut. These included sequences such as medical students meeting Sikandar in Dharavi, an extended flashback highlighting Kamaruddin's health issues, and a heartfelt conversation where Sikandar learns about Rashmika Mandanna's character's dream of becoming a lawyer. The leaked version also included a pre-interval segment showing the challenges faced by Sikandar's team, a deleted moment of Vaidehi's suicide attempt, and an emotional cab scene with vadams. The inclusion of these unreleased scenes in the pirated version strongly indicates that the leak occurred after the film received its CBFC clearance. With losses piling up, the makers are reportedly filing an insurance claim to recover damages. The situation raises serious concerns about content security in the digital age, especially for high-budget Bollywood films. First Published: June 17, 2025, 23:58 IST

Aamir Khan Rejects Rs 120 Cr Amazon Deal For Sitaare Zameen Par OTT Release: Report
Last Updated: Aamir Khan turned down Rs 120 Cr Amazon offer for Sitaare Zameen Par, opts for delayed YouTube release instead. Aamir Khan has reportedly declined a whopping Rs 120 crore offer from Amazon Prime Video for the OTT release of his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par. As per trade analyst Komal Nahta, Khan is taking a bold stand against the current trend of early digital releases, with a vision to restore the theatre-going culture in India. Khan's decision to hold back the OTT premiere by at least eight weeks is part of his strategic move to encourage audiences to return to cinemas. 'The idea is to make people choose the big screen experience again by not giving them the home-viewing option so soon," a source close to the development said. In recent years, the film industry has seen a significant shift towards streaming services, with most films arriving on OTT platforms just weeks after their theatrical release. Aamir believes this quick transition has contributed to the decline in footfalls in cinemas. Interestingly, this isn't the first digital offer Khan has turned down. Netflix had also shown interest in acquiring Sitaare Zameen Par, but the actor-producer reportedly rejected that deal too, sticking to his belief in a delayed digital model. Instead of handing over the rights to a major streaming service, Khan plans to release the film digitally on YouTube—on a pay-per-view basis. This gives him full control over the release window and pricing, allowing him to test the waters for alternative digital strategies. Sitaare Zameen Par, which also stars Genelia D'Souza, is slated for theatrical release on June 20. The film is expected to carry emotional weight, similar to Khan's acclaimed 2007 directorial Taare Zameen Par. First Published: June 17, 2025, 23:13 IST
