Bill Belichick and UNC flipped a big safety from Ohio State
The North Carolina Tar Heels continue to get good news regarding the 2026 football recruiting class, with still a long way to go in the cycle.
On Wednesday, North Carolina received some surprising yet good news. Four-star safety Jakob Weatherspoon told Rivals that he is flipping his commitment from Ohio State to North Carolina, giving the Tar Heels another big recruit for the class.
The move comes a few days after UNC landed a commitment from linebacker Calvin Thomas and then on Wednesday, they received news that Travis Burgess was the biggest mover in the updated 247Sports recruiting rankings.
The Ohio native committed to Ohio State early in 2025, but despite that, UNC kept the pressure on. Now, with the Buckeyes projected to land a top safety, Weatherspoon has opted to flip to North Carolina and Belichick.
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Weatherspoon is ranked No. 178 nationally, No. 14 safety, and the No. 9 player in the state of Ohio per the 247Sports composite rankings. He had a total of 22 offers in his recruitment.
He joins a UNC class that is now ranked No. 17 nationally with 33 commitments so far.

Steelers' Aaron Rodgers predicts two offensive linemen to be involved in first camp fight

"No fighting something starts kick his ass" 😂😂@AaronRodgers12 #PMSLive Steelers training camp on Wednesday was filled with hilarious moments — courtesy of the relationship between Aaron Rodgers and one of his closest friends and fellow Yinzer Pat McAfee. Rodgers appeared on a special edition of The Pat McAfee Show live from Latrobe, where he joked that everyone is taking bets on which players will be the first to get into fights at training camp — picking two offensive linemen as his prediction. "We're all taking side bets on who the first fight is gonna be," Rodgers said. "And if I'm a betting man, I'm saying that either Zach Frazier or Mason McCormick will be involved in the first fight." Rodgers then added a hilarious one-liner when discussing the expectations at training camp. "That's one of the rules, no fighting," Rodgers said. "But if something starts, whip his a--." Jokes aside, the revamped Steelers roster checks a lot of boxes — including fiery personalities and trash talkers like CB Jalen Ramsey and WR DK Metcalf, two new acquisitions who continue to turn heads as camp rolls on. Ohio State football duo named to the 2025 Thorpe preseason watch list

We've got a couple of more Ohio State football players that landed on a preseason watch list on Wednesday, and this time it's the Jim Thorpe Award. The Thorpe Award was first handed out in 1986 and is one of the most prestigious awards in college football. It goes to the best defensive back in college football annually and is voted on by the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame. The Buckeyes have only had two players take home the Thorpe Award, and it's been a while. Antoine Winfield won the award in 1998, with Malcom Jenkins taking it home a decade later in 2008. You have to like Ohio State's chances in 2025 because one of the players appearing on the preseason watch list is safety Caleb Downs. His accolades speak for themself, but he's widely known as the best defender and defensive back heading into the country. The other Buckeye appearing on the list of 35 names is cornerback Davison Igbinosun. The 6-foot-2-inch. long and rangy corner will be entering his senior season in Columbus after transferring from Ole Miss after his sophomore season. He's played in all 29 games since coming to the banks of the Olentangy and led the team with 11 passes defended (9 pass breakups and two interceptions). After being narrowed down to three finalists, the Thorpe Award will be announced on December 12 during the Home Depot College Football Awards show. Pair of Ohio State football players named to the 2025 Butkus Award preseason watch list

The 2025 Butkus Award preseason watch list was unveiled on Wednesday, and there were two more Ohio State football players appearing on the list. The Butkus has been around since 1985 and is given to the best linebacker in college football on a yearly basis. It is, of course, named after the late, great Pro Football and College Football Hall of Fame linebacker, Dick Butkus. The two OSU players appearing among the 50 names announced are Sonny Styles and Arvell Reese. Styles is entering his final year as a Buckeye after already making a name for himself in 2024. He was second on the team with 100 tackles and really flashed at the end of the season through to the College Football Playoff championship run. Reese could be poised for a huge breakout this year. He received high praise from the coaching staff last year before the season and showed flashes of what he could do, and now he figures to be a starter at linebacker and make good on all that athleticism and promise. Two all-time great linebackers in Ohio State history have won the Butkus. Andy Katzenmoyer was the first Buckeye to take the award home in 1997, and that was followed up by current Ohio State linebackers coach James Laurinaitis in 2007. The Butkus Award winner will be announced on December 10 after the semifinalists are announced on November 4, and the finalists are unveiled on November 25.
