Lucknow: Crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the revival of the carpet industry, Yogi Adityanath said that the industry faced severe challenges around 10 years ago. However, the govt provided workers with a conducive environment, and now UP contributes 60% of the country's carpet exports, with Bhadohi alone accounting for more than 60% of that.
The district has also received a GI tag for its carpets.
In Bhadohi for a few hours before he went to Varanasi on Monday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a review meeting of ongoing projects and gave immediate approval for two projects. These included a bridge over the Ganga near Dengurpur in Sitamarhi and a railway overbridge between Gopiganj and Mirzapur.
"Bhadohi's craftsmanship has given both the state and the country a unique identity.
Multiple govt-led initiatives have been launched to support entrepreneurs and artisans. The aim is to further promote and support India's ancient handicrafts and establish a stronger international market presence," he said.
The CM directed officials to prioritise residential facilities for officers and staff at the district headquarters and also sought a report on the status of outsourced sanitation workers under the panchayati raj department.
He directed officials to improve road connectivity to the district headquarters and expedite work on the approved mini stadium. The CM also highlighted that an auditorium was sanctioned for the district headquarters but is now being developed as a multipurpose hall.
During his visit to the city, the CM inspected the district hospital and said that it was his govt which ensured the completion of the project, which until 2017 was a symbol of past govts' inefficiency and corruption.
Reviewing the ongoing construction of a new 50-bedded critical care centre, the CM said that funds were sanctioned for the renovation of the hospital's old building. The Rajkiya Nirman Nigam has been assigned to complete the work by December 2025.
He added that efforts were underway to set up a medical college in Bhadohi under the PPP model.
Announcing that the land requirements for the Kashi Naresh Rajkiya PG College were submitted to the govt and that an agricultural faculty was already provided, the CM said if another 50 acres of land or more became available, the institution could be developed into a state university. He also praised the collaborative efforts of the district administration, public representatives, and citizens in rejuvenating the Morwa river.

BJP fails to replicate Lok Sabha success in Ludhiana West bypoll

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which secured over 45,000 votes from the Ludhiana West segment in the 2024 Lok Sabha Election, couldn't even hold on to half the votes in the byelection, the results for which were declared on Monday. The party's vote share fell by more than 55% as compared to the 2024 general election. (Gurpreet Singh/HT) The party's candidate Ravneet Bittu scored an impressive 45,424 votes in the Lok Sabha election last June. Congress candidate Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, who had won the Lok Sabha seat, was a distant second in the segment with 30,889 votes. Expecting to translate the performance into a victory in the bypoll, the party fielded heavy weights like Union ministers Hardeep Singh Puri and Anurag Thakur, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, Haryana CM Nayab Saini and Punjab BJP head Sunil Jakhar in the campaign. Former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, who died in the Air India crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, had camped in Ludhiana and planned the campaign. Despite all this, party candidate Jiwan Gupta could secure only 20,323 votes, finishing third. BJP district president Rajnish Dhiman attributed the relatively poor performance to two factors. First, he claimed, was the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led state government throwing all its weight in the bypoll. It is being speculated that the bypoll was of critical importance to the AAP as it plans to send party supremo Arvind Kejriwal to Rajya Sabha by freeing the seat occupied by Sanjeev Arora, who has now been elected the new MLA from Ludhiana West. Kejriwal is expected to be nominated to Rajya Sabha from Punjab as Arora resigns from his seat. Second, the local BJP leader argued there was a difference in the nature of the elections. 'The Lok Sabha poll were fought on national agenda with issues like the Ram Mandir at the heart of the campaign led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,' he said. He argued that it was those national issues and Narendra Modi as the PM which had driven the party's domineering performance in the segment in the Lok Sabha elections. The bypoll, he claimed, was 'too local' in comparison to Lok Sabha to be comparable. While accepting the people's decision, BJP candidate Jiwan Gupta also took pot shots at the state government and alleged that it 'abused' the administrative system to win the bypoll. He pointed out that while at some polling booths the turnout was very low and at others clocked 65%-70% votes. 'At one booth only 465 votes were cast, and 412 of these went to AAP,' he said, alleging discrepancy.

Make Bhadohi TB-free by Nov 2025: CM

1 2 Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday appreciated the efforts made by the Bhadohi administration for securing first place in UP under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and encouraged the authorities to make the district TB-free by Nov 2025. He suggested that public representatives, officials, employees, and teachers adopt one TB patient each and support them with 'Poshan Potlis' to ensure their recovery. While inspecting an under-construction 100-bed hospital, 50-bed critical care block, and hemodialysis unit, Yogi interacted with patients. Patients confirmed that all necessary treatments were free of cost. He also gave on-the-spot approval for the appointment of a nephrologist in the hospital. In an interaction with basic shiksha adhikaris, the CM sought details about schools that lacked teachers and those with fewer than 25 students. He directed schools to organise teacher-parent interactions to ensure children maintain regular attendance. The district forest officer informed the CM that a target of 12.59 lakh saplings had been set for this year's plantation drive. Asking the department to ensure maximum public participation in the drive, he stressed the need for shramdaan for the 'One District, One River Rejuvenation' initiative. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 임플란트, 지금 시작하세요 [자세히 보기] 임플란트 더 알아보기 Undo To promote the carpet industry, the CM instructed the administration to promote the Carpet Expo Mart and to coordinate with CEPC and other stakeholders to develop proposals for expanding its reach. Kashmir: Cheer is back as tourists begin to trickle in

The return of hum of suitcase wheels, hotels, streets bustling with tourists, Valley is slowly regaining its charm. So much so that chief minister Omar Abdullah couldn't resist to take note. Tourists take a horse ride at Sonamarg in Ganderbal district in Jammu & Kashmir on Sunday. (PTI) The tourism industry had faced a setback after the April 22 Pahalgam attach, but, slowly, the travel industry is reviving in Kashmir. The attack had resulted in sudden flight on the tourists from the Valley and since then the efforts for tourism revival were underway. On Sunday, Omar Abdullah shared a picture on social networking site X from Pahalgam, where the tourist resort was full of travellers. The resort had become empty after the attack. From the last two weeks, tourism is picking up in Kashmir, thanks to the Vande Bharat train that is running packed since it was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6 and the efforts of J&K government and tourism players from across the country. 'Tourism industry is resurrecting itself after the Pahalgam attack. The second part of June is turning out to be good with many visitors arriving here. Gradually it is increasing and we are even getting some hotels as 'sold out,' said Sajad Ahmad Kralyari, secretary general of travel agents association of Kashmir. Before the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, over 2 lakh tourists were present in the valley. Post-attack, all scrambled to get out with 95% of tourist bookings cancelled. Now, the tourist footfall, as per tourism players, is 30-40% of what it was before the terror attack with the launch of the train service and reopening of 16 tourist destinations. 'The last time I was in Pahalgam I cycled through a market that was all but deserted. Today I came back to a Pahalgam that was bustling with activity. Tourists from various parts of the country competed for space with local picnickers who were enjoying the cool climate & rainy weather. It's very satisfying to see the efforts my colleagues & I have been putting in slowly bearing fruit,' Omar Abdullah wrote on X while sharing long queues of tourists. Sajad Kralyari said that the Vande Bharat train played its part in the influx of tourists besides efforts by local and national tourism players. 'The train did a lot of boost to tourism. Besides, the hoteliers dropped rates by 40-50%. The visit of the country's top travel agents helped a lot,' he said. Tour operators now hope that more tourists will come with the beginning of the Amarnath Yatra on July 3. Even the number of passengers and flights coming to Kashmir has slowly increased with tour operators saying they have started receiving advance booking again. 'Due to cancellation of advance bookings. I closed my hotel then reduced staff. Now I have opened the hotel again and in coming days will hire more people,' said Ghulam Mohudin, a hotel owner in Indra Nagar. The recent opening of 16 tourist places (eight each in Kashmir and Jammu) has also helped to attract tourists. Soon after the Pahalgam attack, the government had shut down 48 tourist destinations due to security reasons. Last week after security assessment, 16 locations, including in Pahalgam, were again opened and J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha said more tourist places will be opened in a phased manner after security assessment. The J&K government took several initiatives to get back tourists, CM Omar Abdullah chaired a cabinet meeting in Pahalgam, and also held a meeting of administrative officers in Gulmarg besides hosting several travel association bodies in Kashmir. Prominent hotelier and former president of Gulmarg Hoteliers Club, Mukhtar Shah said that the tourism graph is increasing. 'This used to be our peak season with our hotels fully booked owing to heat in the rest of the country but unfortunately due to the Pahalgam attack, that is not the case currently but the graph is increasing and next month will be much better,' he said. He said that high spending tourists were not yet coming while flights coming into Kashmir are still half of what used to be before the attack. But he said the Vande Bharat train and Amarnath yatra would be tourism boosters. 'Train is the best way to boost tourism as those coming to Vaishno Devi will easily come here now. There is also an upcoming Amarnath yatra,' he said. Kashmir had witnessed back to back record tourist arrivals for the past three years. Last year, as per official numbers of the tourism department, 34.98 lakh tourists visited the himalayan valley, up from 31.55 lakh in 2023 and 26.73 lakh in 2022. This year , the numbers already reached 6 lakh till the Pahalgam incident.
