Hlompho Kekana was a combative and explosive character on the pitch, but off it, he's as humble as they come. Regarded by his teammates as a model professional and example, he took care of his body and was fit as a fiddle even at the ripe age of 36. Also, his devotion to a healthy diet didn't do him any harm either.
The retired midfield general remains popular with journalists, too, having always made himself available for calls and interviews. In the aftermath of Sundowns' tenth ABSA Premiership title win, a triumph that completed a fabled 'La Decima', Kekana was effusive when praising his teammates. Those men fought alongside him to snatch the title on the very final day. Kekana was truly a team-oriented man.

Abdeslam Ouaddou under early pressure after Orlando Pirates suffer Marumo Gallants sucker punch

Oswin Appollis of Orlando Pirates competes for the ball with Khumbulani Ncube of Marumo Gallants during their Betway Premiership match. Orlando Pirates' sluggish start to the season deepened as they fell 2–1 to Marumo Gallants at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium on Tuesday night. The Sea Robbers remain winless after two matches. They looked strong early, with Patrick Maswanganyi opening the scoring. But Gallants hit back with goals in each half — first through Daniel Msendami and then a late strike by Jaisen Clifford — delivering another blow to Pirates' championship aspirations this early in the campaign. The Buccaneers started like a house on fire, seemingly intent on fixing the mistakes from their clash against Sekhukhune United. Dr Molemela Stadium — packed and pulsing with song — intensified the pressure on coach Abdeslam Ouaddou's broad shoulders. He faced extra scrutiny from his former side on the opposing bench, who were clearly intent on making life difficult for him. Despite making three changes from the Babina Noko loss, the Moroccan tactician stood by his selections, even though his line-up still lacked some of Jose Riveiro's championship chasing fan favourites from last season.

'Bring back Jose Riveiro!' – Pirates faithful lose patience with Ouaddou

Orlando Pirates supporters are calling on the club's management to recall Jose Riveiro after the team suffered back-to-back league defeats. Under new head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, the Buccaneers have lost their opening two Betway Premiership matches. This past weekend, Pirates went down 1-0 to Sekhukhune United. On Tuesday evening, many expected the Sea Robbers to bounce back against Marumo Gallants but were humiliated 2-1 despite scoring first. The defeat leaves Ouaddou's men right at the bottom after two matches. Orlando Pirates fans are calling for Riveiro Jose Riveiro coached Pirates from 2022 until 2025 where he went on to win five trophies with the Soweto giants. His contract ended in June and the Spaniard opted not to renew, and instead, he joined Egyptian giants Al Ahly. Ouaddou was named as his replacement and many Bucs faithful saw him as the man who would finally help the club get over the line and win the league title. With two matches played, the Sea Robbers have nothing to show for and supporters are frustrated. After Orlando Pirates defeat to Gallants, many supporters took to social media to ask the management to bring back Riveiro. @ka_madesi wrote: 'This guy found a well oiled machine. He then takes people who carried this team and put them in the grandstands.' @tdyani wrote: 'Jose Riveiro's work completely undone in just 3 matches. Unbelievable.' @RozmolaThato wrote: 'Something is not right with Orlando Pirates. I think Jose Riveiro must come back and be reappointed again. this is so sad and humiliating.' 'We undermined how much Jose Riveiro held this team together. We literally have no brain… Just a team with parts moving aimlessly,' tweeted @NeoMabuya_ Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211.
