Ellen DeGeneres Just Sold a Midcentury Bungalow in Montecito for $5.2 Million

Yahoo27-03-2025

Back in 2020, after they sold a Beverly Hills mansion to a San Francisco-based venture capitalist for a cool $45 million, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi went on a real estate buying spree in the Santa Barbara area. The former talk show host and actress snatched up a $49 million compound from comedian Dennis Miller, bought back a $14.3 million ranch they had previously owned from Tinder founder Sean Rad, and picked up a two-bedroom, two-bath 1950s bungalow just steps away from Montecito's Butterfly Beach for $2.9 million, just to name a few of their purchases.
The couple went on to flip the Miller pad for $55 million to an unidentified buyer and once again offloaded the historic Rancho San Leandro hacienda—it's right next door to Oprah Winfrey's Promised Land estate—to Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe in an off-market deal for $21 million. Now they've come full circle, selling the petite cottage in a bidding war for $5.2 million just days after they listed it for a speck under $5 million. Not only is that around $200,000 over the asking price, but it's also $2.3 million more than they paid for the place a little more than four years ago.

Tucked away at the end of a lengthy driveway shared with three other homes, amid a nearly half-acre parcel laced with palms, the single-level house was built in 1954 and offers about 1,700 square feet of glass-lined living space that has been extensively renovated through the years. With vaulted ceilings sporting whitewashed exposed beams throughout, the Bali-esque interiors are centered around an open-concept great room hosting a fireside living room, a dining area, and a sleekly designed kitchen outfitted with Portuguese limestone countertops and high-end stainless appliances.
Just off the kitchen is a small guest bedroom that sits across from a full bath and a laundry room. At the end of a hallway is a secluded primary retreat, which features a bedroom with its own patio, along with a walk-in closet and a spa-like bath that comes with a soaking tub and access to a privately walled courtyard. A second enclosed patio off the living area is embellished with a fire pit and a water feature, while a carport rests out front.
The property-mad pair, who have largely decamped to the U.K., are rumored to already be looking at a new and very modern house in the Cotswolds after they experienced issues with flooding and backlash from neighbors over construction work at an $18 million farmhouse they first moved into last year. Back in the U.S., they still lay claim to at least two Montecito homes: a $32 million Roman-style estate known as Pompeiian Court that the two repurchased last year as part of a property swap deal with billionaire mining magnate Robert Friedland, as well as another smaller house nearby.
The just-sold listing was held by Riskin Partners Estate Group of Village Properties/Forbes Global Properties; Mark Bacino of Keller Williams Realty repped the buyer.Best of Robb Report

USC's SoCal VoCals Are Pitch Perfect in ‘Just Sing' Documentary Trailer

For the University of Southern California's reigning a cappella group the SoCal VoCals, it isn't enough to just be pitch perfect. In the official trailer for the documentary Just Sing, directors Angelique Molina and Abraham Troen follow the group as they balance pressure and passion ahead of their final pre-graduation test at New York's International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella. The documentary will premiere at Tribeca Film Festival 2025 on June 6. 'One of the biggest misconceptions surrounding a cappella is that it's kind of Glee-esque, but it's so much more than that,' one student said in the clip. Another added: 'I think when I realized there was a whole group of people that, like, that was their nerd, I was like, 'Those are my people.'' It brought an element of cool to these competitions, but didn't diminish what it meant to the people competing. More than 600 groups and 12,000 students compete in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, often referred to as the 'Super Bowl of song.' 'It has the potential to really transform someone's life,' one student said. 'For two years, we were immersed in the lives of our protagonists, embedded not only in the world of the SoCal VoCals but also within the broader realm of collegiate a cappella,' Molina and Troen shared in a statement via FilmFreeway. 'What might have seemed like a typical narrative of a prestigious a cappella group striving for a highly coveted trophy instead unfolded into a deeply personal exploration of young people navigating universal themes of identity, belonging, and self-expression. Through their shared passion for music, each member embarks on their own journey of self-discovery, ultimately finding and defining their own voice.' In the trailer, the SoCal VoCals can be heard running through Lady Gaga's 'The Edge of Glory' and Bob Dylan's 'The Times They Are A-Changin'.' Elsewhere in the film, the group performs tracks from Adele, Beyonce, Rosalía, Jon Batiste, Diana Ross, Chappell Roan, and Taylor Swift. Just Sing was produced by Sarah Thomson and John Battsek. Hailey Bieber Convinced Me to Wear Cowboy Hats All Summer

There's no question: Hailey Bieber is that girl. You prob didn't need me to tell you that. The model-turned-businesswoman just casually sold Rhode Beauty for a $1 billion and graced the cover of Vogue in the span of, like, five minutes. It's only right she take a little time for some R&R (and a poolside bevvy). "Lemon drop martinis all summer long 👍🍋🍸," Hailey captioned a carousel of pics from vacay. And while there's a lot to unpack from the post (including, ahem, the original caption), I'm still stuck on her beachside look—aka the bikini and cowboy hat combo that's sorta becoming her signature. She finished off the 'fit with bold gold hoop earrings and a black bolero cover-up. It's hardly the first time our girl has stepped out in the beachy western-inspired style. Just last year, she paired her fire hydrant red swimwear with a straw version from Lack of Color. Her besties Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid have similarly adopted cowboy hats as a beach accessory—and it's enough to convince me of its status as the it style of the season. While I wasn't able to track down Hailey's exact hat from her latest Insta, a quick Amazon search revealed options that look just—if not, exactly—like hers. Take this $25 style, which is crafted from a high-quality suede-like fabric and comes in additional shades if you aren't looking to copy-paste Hailey's all-black look. "Howdy, ma'am.... I feel like a real cowboy when I put this on," one shopper said. "I like the soft velvety feel of it. The size is easily adjusted with a little string inside. " There are beachier picks too, just like the Hailey's straw hat from last summer. While her style sold out (obvi), there's a similar iteration from the same brand that was practically primed for the pool. The Seashells Cowboy Hat has a more casual woven design with seashell charms and a pinched crown. Summer plans, you ask? Sipping beachside lemon drops in a cowboy hat—while manifesting my own billion dollar deal. Megan Schaltegger is an NYC-based writer. Mom Thought Her Toddler Was Just Playing. Then Something Caught Her Eye (Exclusive)

One evening, Alex Moore was playing with her 23-month-old daughter, Addy They were being silly and listening to nursery rhymes when all of a sudden, Addy started dancing Alex watched as her daughter slid off the bed and began doing little high-kick stompsAlex Moore and her husband, Christian, both work full-time. So after wrapping up their workdays and picking up their daughter from daycare, the North Carolina-based couple likes to wind down by laying in bed to decompress. One evening, Christian went to make dinner while Alex stayed back to play with their 23-month-old daughter, Addy. They were being silly and listening to nursery rhymes when all of a sudden, Addy started dancing. Alex watched as her daughter slid off the bed and began doing little high-kick stomps. "I had no idea what she was doing until she said 'cha cha??' " Alex, 31, tells PEOPLE exclusively. Alex goes on to explain that her daughter learned the "Cha-Cha Slide" by DJ Casper at daycare. She says her teacher, Ms. Mikaila, plays the song often and has been teaching the kids the steps. Although Ms. Mikaila had previously sent Alex videos of Addy dancing along to the "Cha-Cha Slide" at daycare, this was the first time she had seen her daughter perform some of the correct steps in person — especially the stomping and the 'hands on your knees' move. "She was walking around stomping her feet with almost a high-kick fashion, and I kept giggling because I'd never seen her stomp like that before," Alex, a aesthetics technician, says. In the moment, Alex pulled out her phone and recorded the sweet scene. Later, she decided to post it to TikTok, thinking, 'This is too good to not share with more people.' But then, the video quickly went viral, amassing more than 7.4 million views and 13,000 comments. "I knew she was demanding the cha cha slide at daycare' is in incredible statement in itself 😭," one user wrote. "and it is already knows her left and right ✅️❤️," someone else replied. Another person commented, "That's actually so impressive that she knows the cha cha slide at her age .. what an icon." Reading through the comments, Alex says she couldn't help but smile. "The kind of responses I've received from the video are the exact ones I was hoping," she says. " 'This made my day, thank you so much.' It was an added bonus to hear that my daughter could excel in a dance class, because what parent doesn't want to hear that their child has a knack for something?" "My daughter brings me so much joy every day, so I really loved that I could do that for other people," the mom adds. "Also hearing from other daycare employees that they'll start implementing the song into their classrooms for teaching directions, and dance teachers that she has amazing skills for her age — that feedback really stood out to me the most." Since her daughter is so young, Alex knows won't remember much from this time, but in teaching her about it in a few years, she hopes her daughter realizes that she made a lot of people smile when they felt like they couldn't. "Addy has taught me that children truly are like flowers: when they're given a loving environment, taught things with patience and in a fun way, they can blossom into the best versions of themselves," she says. "Along with truly being able to dance your little heart out when you feel it!" Read the original article on People
