'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas': West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Slams Centre, Says BJP Kills Democracy Daily
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has launched a blistering attack on the BJP-led Centre ahead of its planned observation of "Constitution Murder Day" on June 25, commemorating the 1975 Emergency. She accused the Modi government of daily violating the Constitution, undermining federalism, and destroying democracy. Banerjee questioned the moral authority of those who "topple elected governments" like in Maharashtra and Bihar and then preach about constitutional values. She claimed BJP has consistently disrespected the Constitution and mocked democratic institutions. Hitting out further, Mamata called for observing November 8 as 'Economy Destruction Day'—in memory of demonetisation, which she said ruined India's economy. "Don't teach us democracy," she said. "Those destroying its foundation cannot give us lessons." Her fierce comments have sparked political tremors ahead of key elections.#MamataBanerjee #ConstitutionMurderDay #BJPvsTMC #IndianPolitics #DemocracyInIndia #NotebandiDisaster #FederalStructure #MamataSpeech #Emergency1975 #CentreVsStates #toi #toibharat #bharat #breakingnews #indianews

TG seeks NOC from Jal Shakti Ministry and A.P. for utilisation of 1,500 tmc ft in Godavari and Krishna

The Telangana Government has sought a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Union Jal Shakti Ministry and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh allowing it to utilise 1,000 tmc ft of Godavari and 500 tmc ft of Krishna water. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has urged Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil to ensure that the Central Government gives its consent for the NOC allowing Telangana to utilise 1,500 tmc ft water as it would suffice to realise the goal of irrigating 1.5 crore acres of land. 'We have no objection if the Centre examines the clearances for projects proposed by Andhra Pradesh after allocating 1,500 tmc ft water from the two rivers,' the Chief Minister told the Union Minister. He termed as inappropriate the Centre's attitude in responding speedily to the projects proposed by the neighbouring State and neglecting Telangana's projects. This would give scope for apprehensions between the two States that could in turn lead to problematic situations, he said, seeking the Union Minister's cooperation in according clearances to Palamuru-Rangareddy, Tummidihatti and Sammakka-Sarakka projects at the earliest. Funds for Musi project The Centre should consider granting funds for the Musi rejuvenation project proposed by the Telangana Government on the lines of similar projects taken up on Ganga and Yamuna rivers. Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, who briefed reporters after the meeting, said that the Jal Shakti Minister responded positively to the State's request. Mr. Patil told the Chief Minister and the Irrigation Minister that the Centre was yet to receive the detailed project report pertaining to the Godavari-Banakacharla project. The Union Minister also assured the State delegation that he would take the initiative in convening the meeting of the Apex Council headed by him and comprising the Chief Ministers of the two Telugu States as members soon.

Good news for Muslims in Karnataka as Siddaramaiah decides to increase housing quota by... In a significant move aimed at enhancing social welfare, the Karnataka government has approved an increase in the housing quota for the Muslim community under various housing schemes. The reservation has been raised from the existing 10% to 15%, following a proposal passed in today's cabinet meeting. The decision will be applicable to all housing initiatives run by the state's Department of Housing in both rural and urban areas. The revised quota is expected to benefit a larger section of the Muslim population, ensuring better access to government-supported housing projects. Population ration Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, while addressing the media, said, 'This decision has been taken keeping in mind the population ratio and the underutilization of several housing projects. It is essential to fill these vacancies, and the Muslim community, given its population share, deserves increased representation in welfare housing.' He also took a swipe at the opposition, stating, 'The BJP has no agenda other than playing politics in the name of Muslims. Our government is committed to inclusive development, and this move is a step in that direction.' The Congress-led state government had earlier introduced provisions to extend reservation benefits to minority communities in government contracts as well. This latest move adds another layer of affirmative action targeting improved living conditions for minorities, particularly the Muslim community. The enhanced quota is expected to roll out soon, with guidelines being framed for its implementation.

Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge (File photo) NEW DELHI: Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge on Thursday criticised the central government for denying him permission to travel to the United States to engage with multinational companies and promote investment opportunities in the state. Sources told news agency PTI that Kharge was scheduled to lead a delegation to Boston for Bio 2025 and later to San Francisco to attend the Design Automation Conference. However, following the denial of approval, Kharge had to cut short his ongoing foreign trip and returned to Bengaluru from Paris on Wednesday night. The minister said he would take up the issue with the ministry of external affairs (MEA) and demand a formal explanation for the decision. 'It seems that somewhere Centre is trying to curtail the fame of Karnataka,' said Kharge, who holds the Information Technology and Biotechnology portfolios. While acknowledging that the Centre has the authority to refuse permission, he said the need for a valid justification. 'Rejecting my official tour is improper,' he said. Kharge made it clear that he would pursue the matter further.
