Deadpool star cuts ties with Marvel after Deadpool & Wolverine ‘embarrassment'
Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld has cut ties with Marvel after expressing disappointment with his alleged treatment at the premiere of the latest film.
The artist and writer is the brains behind the foul-mouthed anti-hero, and has a working relationship with the comic book publishers lasting more than 30 years.
But he felt sidelined at the New York premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine, the first Deadpool film to be released since Disney acquired Fox, and has opened up about his perceived experience.
According to Liefeld, he felt ignored by Disney bosses, including Marvel Studios head Kevin Fiege, at the July 2024 event and was upset to discover he and his family had not been invited to the premiere afterparty.
Speaking on his podcast Robservations , Liefeld claimed: 'It was meant to embarrass, diminish, defeat me.
'At some point, you go, 'I've received the message, and the message is clear.''
Liefeld, who receives large revenue streams for the character he created in 1991, revealed that, one month before the film's release, he requested more involvement with the marketing and promotion.
He also wanted a special credit different to the standard one given to comic book creators at the end of the film – noting that his request stemmed from Marvel's decision to give Roy Thomas a Wolverine co-creator status alongside Len Wein and John Romita, Sr.
He wrote in the email: 'Marvel's treatment of creators has never been their strength. Without the worlds, the characters and the concepts that we create – and in this specific case, the world of Deadpool – there are no films to shoot. No blockbusters to distribute. … I am not the easy button at Staples. I am the human imagination behind it all.'
Liefeld claimed that his response did not get received in the way he was after, tweeting: 'My reps were screamed at today 'We are NOT Fox!' Tell me about it. Also hung up on.'

When the status of a third Deadpool film was unclear, the comic book creator, who became one of Marvel's most lucrative publishers in the 1990s, previously expressed the belief that Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds 'should be steering the ship and just completely handed the reins' to the franchise.

At the time, Zegler said that the origin story had changed, and in Disney's new version the princess earns the name due to a snowstorm she survived as a child. She then came under fire for criticizing original animation when she called it 'dated' during a red carpet interview with Extra TV in 2022. She eventually walked back her comments and assured fans that the love story would be 'integral' to the remake's plot. Disney fans then expressed discontent at Zegler when she said she was 'scared' of the original version as a child and only watched it one time. Although the Disney remake has been widely considered a flop, Rachel has already lined up next role. She will be starring opposite Marisa Tomei, 60, of My Cousin Vinny fame, in her next movie role. All Aboard! Bluey delights families at Corwen Station
Children's favourite Bluey welcomed families to Corwen station during a special event on Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8. The popular pup delighted little ones (and grown-ups!) by waving and excitedly jumping. Llangollen Railway, a Heritage Railway Line running between Llangollen, following the River Dee through the Dee Valley for 10 miles, to Corwen, ran the event in partnership Fox & Edwards Events. One fan who managed to see Bluey took to the Llangollen Railway Facebook page and said: "We took our little one, it was amazing." Another person said: "This was a great experience for our little one, he was slightly star struck when Bluey reached out for him." Another excited fan who wished they had gone said: "I would have just exploded if I saw this." A description into the event said: "Our vintage steam train will be waiting to welcome you for a journey of approximately 60 minutes. This relaxed journey is approximately 10 miles in total with a pause in the middle of the trip while the locomotive changes ends - look out for it puffing past. MORE NEWS: "Every child and infant will receive a gingerbread train biscuit and juice carton, too. "When we return, Bluey will be waiting for friendly waves and to see fans like you. "Don't forget to bring your camera to get some snaps." Corwen station is a new build station and is the western terminus of the Railway. The station opened on the June 1 2023 and has been built mainly by volunteers with contractors doing specialist jobs such as the canopy. Bluey has become essential viewing for pre-schoolers and their parents. The Australian animated TV series is incredibly popular globally and receives billions of views per week.
