Why Celtics Hall of Famer Larry Bird had such an impact on the City of Boston
Boston Celtics Hall of Fame forward Larry Bird left an indelible mark on the City of Boston. The Hick From French Lick loved his home state of Indiana, but as the man himself once said after winning a banner with Boston, French Lick was the only other place he would rather be.
And the love locals had for Larry Legend (and still have, right up to this day) has been evident almost from the moment he started suiting up for the Celtics all those years ago. Why did this basketball legend have such a profound impact on the local community that he played in?
The hosts of the CLNS Media "Bob Ryan, Jeff Goodman, and Gary Tanguay!" podcast took some time on a recent episode of their show to talk it over. Check it out below!

No NBA games for Boston Celtics on opening night, Christmas Day

For the first time in more than a decade, the Boston Celtics will not play on opening night or on Christmas Day. The Celtics have long been a staple of the NBA fare on offer on December 25, and their success in the last ten years has had them selected by the league to play most of the games played on the first day of the season as well. But with star Boston forward Jayson Tatum sitting out much if not all of the 2025-26 regular season, the league has elected to pass the Celtics by for both marquee dates this year. In their place, the NBA has announced via Shams Charania a compelling slate of games that, for all their gravitas, won't hit quite the same for Boston fans. For opening night, the games will feature a smaller lineup of contests as tends to be the case, with the Houston Rockets at the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Golden State Warriors at the Los Angeles Lakers. Christmas Day will continue to be the marquee date of the regular season, featuring a slate of five contests based mostly in the league's West. The sole East contest includes the Cleveland Cavaliers at the New York Knicks. In the Western Conference, we have the San Antonio Spurs at the Thunder, the Rockets at the Lakers, the Dallas Mavericks at the Warriors, and the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Denver Nuggets. Havlicek Stole the Pod 12: East over-unders, plus Mazzulla extension, Boucher deal with Sam LaFrance

With both the Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers down their best players heading into the 2025-26 NBA regular season, it is safe to say that the league's Eastern Conference is going to be having a down year. But just how bad is a down year going to be in a conference that has rightfully had the reputation of being the worse of the two by a notable margin for over a decade now? There are some familiar faces among the tank commanders in the Washington Wizards and Brooklyn Nets, but there are also cases to be made that the Charlotte Hornets and Philadelphia 76ers will trade in their tanks for a competent approach to the season. Most analysts agree that the top of the East is the Cleveland Cavaliers and New York Knicks to lose, but do the Orlando Magic, Atlanta Hawks, and Milwaukee Bucks have anything to say about that? And speaking of Boston and Indiana, where exactly do we think these two enigmatic rosters will end up? To get a bead on how the East might look next season, the cohosts of "Havlicek Stole the Pod" linked up with cohost of the CLNS Media "How Bout Them Celtics!" podcast, Sam LaFrance. We also get into the flurry of late-offseason moves made by Boston, from the Chris Boucher signing to the Joe Mazzulla extension and the rest of the news still percolating into the month of August, so be sure to tune in. Celtics' Payton Pritchard scores 68 points in Ball Don't Stop pro-am

Pro-Am P is back! The NBA's 2025 Sixth Man of the Year, backup Boston Celtics point guard Payton Pritchard, is back at it in offseason tournament action, putting up huge numbers in pro-am exhibitions once again. This time around, Pritchard scored a whopping 68 points in the "Ball Don't Stop" pro-am series, breaking his prior record of 61 points in the Canadian summer exhibition series. Played in the Great White North every summer since 2016, the event features some of the best NBA and other pro players taking the floor alongside top collegiate and amateur talent. Fast PP's big game came ahead of a season he is expected to take on a much bigger role with Boston with star forward Jayson Tatum likely out for the season with a torn Achilles tendon. From the looks of things, the University of Oregon alum is already locked in and ready to attack the Celtics' 2025-25 campaign whether he starts or continues to come off the bench. Take a look at the clip embedded above to see a glimpse of what Pritchard was up to at the Ball Don't Stop pro-am this summer for yourself.
